Yanu revealed that research is a creative process that is not always related to the strict, dry, scary, and not creative processes. Conducting research means that the researcher tries to see a phenomenon using a new perspective, understand the phenomenon, and find order in the chaotic phenomenon. “And to approach the issue with an open mind and high curiosity,” Yanu added.

Feeling lost, confused, and not knowing what to do is common in the research process, and Yanu suggested that researchers need to bring divergent and convergent mindsets, or creative thinking, to solve these issues. A divergent way of thinking involves expanding ideas, creating new connections, and exploring a new line of thoughts and possibilities. “While convergent thinking focuses on the main issue, deepening the ideas, reducing weak ideas, and changing issues into solutions,” Yanu added.

Yanu explained that the next step is determining the topic and starting the research. Yanu stated that researchers need to select topics that fully represent them so that researchers have the curiosity to discuss the topics further. “Find topics that are interesting, align with field of expertise, focus, with an integrated concept, available literature, unique, and new. Don’t forget to specialize your topic to maintain the focus,” Yanu explained.

This stage is followed by selecting the methods and approaches to solving the issues, paying attention to 5W+1H, discussing the selected topics with others to capture new perspectives and ideas, and putting the research ideas into a research proposal. Researchers also need to effectively and efficiently prepare data collection strategies, categorize their data, data processing, reporting, and master the write-up skills, including avoiding plagiarism.

The last step of the process is publishing research findings. Yanu stated that the publication is usually done in the form of journal articles that contain several parts, from abstract to recommendations. “The keys in creative research write, rewrite, and resubmit,” Yanu concluded. Humas UNS

In the ceremony, the President Director of PT KAI, Didiek Hartyanto, stated that this discount is an early collaboration between PT KAI and UNS and hoped that it would lead to a more extensive collaboration in the future.

“As mentioned by the Rector, UNS has proud achievements. As its alumnus, I am proud. Thus, how could we collaborate? This is the first time for UNS academic members to get a discount for railway services. The next development will be continuity between UNS and KAI. So, there will be an enrichment for students so that when they graduate, they are ready with the current systems,” Didiek stated after signing the memorandum of understanding in Ruang Sidang IV UNS Central Office.

The discount will be effective for long-distance and medium-distance trips in the economy, business, and executive classes. The discount is not applicable for the commuter train, special service train, promotional services, or the luxury, imperial, priority, and other tourism railway services.

To activate the benefit, UNS faculty members, academic staff, and alumni must register themselves in the railway station customer service using their ID Card and other identifying proofs. After registration, they need to download the KAI Access application and register the same ID number that they register in the customer service. The discount will automatically apply to the KAI Access account after registration.

The discount is only applicable for all tickets purchased through the KAI Access application and only effective for personal use that does not cover family members. This service will be effective from 11 March 2022 for the next two years. Humas UNS

The book was initiated by Dr. Agung Wibowo, S.P., M.Si., who stated that the book is a means of knowledge and experience transfer from the alumni that could inspire FP UNS students and as a form of togetherness among FP UNS alumni.

“In this occasion, the Faculty of Agriculture launched Kisah Inspiratif 50 Alumni who have served in corners of the country from various professions and business. Hopefully, the book also assists in building solidarity among the alumni from Sabang to Merauke,” Dr. Agung, Vice-Dean for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information Affairs FP UNS, stated.

The Dean of FP UNS Prof. Ir. Dr. Samanhudi, S.P., M.Si., IPM, ASEAN Eng., stated that the book is also a flashback on FP UNS histories. The book could bring their readers to remember the transformation of FP UNS from time to time.

“This history gave a clear description on various aspects, such as technological development, governmental system, to social and cultural behavior in the community. The happy and sad stories as students of the Faculty of Agriculture is an exciting part of this book,” Prof. Saman explained.

The launching received warm welcome from UNS Alumni Association Ikatan Keluarga Alumni (IKA). The Secretary-General of Central IKA UNS, Drs. Bambang Dwi Wahyudi stated that the launching reflected the quality of FP UNS alumni and hoped that this step could be applied by other faculties.

“The highest appreciation for the Faculty of Agriculture UNS for the success in shaping its students to the workplace in various sectors in this republic. We extend our gratitude to all FP UNS alumni who have been serving and becoming a leader for all UNS alumni that could be implemented by other faculties,” he stated.

Fifty alumni involved in the preparation of the book come from a different year, including Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs UNS, Prof. Dr.Ir. Ahmad Yunus, M.S.; Prof. Dr.Ir. The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, who also attended the ceremony, mentioned that IKA UNS needs a leader who is strong and dedicated, which he sees in Ir. Budi Harto. This message was delivered by Prof. Jamal in his opening remark that also mentioned that IKA UNS Chairman would lead more than 200 thousand UNS graduates all over Indonesia and worldwide. IKA UNS is also demanded to contribute to advancing the community and UNS students in need during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Because leading of more than 200,000 alumni is not easy, requires high commitment for UNS alumni association. The Central Management of IKS UNS led by Pak Budi has succeeded in performing their positive and active role for the development of UNS,” Prof. Jamal mentioned in his opening remark.

Further, Prof. Jamal admitted that he would be delighted if the next management of IKA UNS was also led by Ir. Budi Harto. Firmly, the Rector supports Central Management of IKA UNS 2021-2025 to contribute more for UNS and the community, especially that UNS now needs tremendous support to achieve its vision as World Class University (UNS). This vision could be achieved if all of its alumni in state institutions, government institutions, and private institutes support UNS.

“Therefore, the current managing board could be re-elected,” Prof. Jamal stated.

On a different occasion, Vice-Rector for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information Affairs UNS Prof. Sajidan hoped that Ir. Budi Harto could bring IKA UNS to be always solid and work together with UNS. Supporting Prof. Jamal, Prof. Sajidan also considers Ir. Budi Harto is a successful person who could be trusted in leading IKA UNS.

“Congratulation to Ir. Budi Harto as the Chairman of IKA UNS 2021-2025. Good luck and success,” Prof. Sajidan stated.

Supports from Young Alumni

In an interview after the ceremony, Ir. Budi Harto said that he is grateful to be re-elected to lead IKA UNS. He hoped that the young alumni could contribute to the Central Management of IKA UNS 2021-2025.

“Currently and in the future, the demand is for the young generation. Young alumni need to show off. Thus, we hope this management could be filled by young alumni to (achieve) better management, and in the future, they could come forward to be the new leaders,” Ir. Budi Harto stated.

Further, the graduate of Civil Engineering Program Faculty of Engineering (FT) UNS 1983 also stated that the presence of young alumni in the association could strengthen the synergy among the UNS alumni. Ir. Budi Harto also hoped that other UNS alumni could support the presence of young UNS alumni in the management board of IKA UNS 2021-2025 so that they could learn and receive new experiences.

“There will be a good collaboration; the seniors shared experiences with the young, that will benefit them in community services. Then with the alma mater, we could (build) better (relationship),” he concluded. Humas UNS
