The Angsana trees at UNS usually shed their flowers from October to November, though the exact duration of this event is unpredictable. This annual moment is highly anticipated by the UNS academic community, which captures the occasion through photos and videos. Students, lecturers, and staff alike have been eagerly waiting for the iconic sight of Angsana flowers falling.

“This is the moment I’ve been waiting for at UNS, and now it’s finally here. The campus looks so beautiful right now. This is the perfect time for me to go on an aesthetic photo hunt around UNS,” Fatihah Asy Syifa, a student of the Industrial Engineering Program at UNS, said on Thursday (24/10/2024).

The best time to capture images of the sea of golden flowers is in the morning when the blossoms, having fallen overnight, are still scattered across the ground. This time of day is also ideal for morning runs or walks, accompanied by the autumn-like ambiance at UNS.

The falling Angsana flowers can be seen along the paths of the Faculty of Engineering (FT), Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB), Faculty of Law (FH), the UNS Student Cooperative (Kopma), Nurul Huda Mosque, the Library, and UNS Lake.

The Angsana tree is a deciduous, tall tree species that can grow between 10 and 40 meters in height, with a trunk diameter reaching up to 2 meters. Its wood produces a dark red exudate known as “kino” or dragon’s blood. The leaves are compound, with 5 to 11 leaflets that are hairy and alternately arranged. Angsana flowers bloom before the new leaves appear but will continue to blossom even after the leaves fully emerge. The flowers, however, only last for a day after blooming and quickly fall thereafter.
