This victory also set a new internal record for Bengawan Team UNS, solidifying their position as leaders in innovation and technical excellence. The Prototype MPD Gasoline category saw fierce competition from the Batavia Gasoline Team and Selembayung Team 1, yet Bengawan Team UNS emerged victorious.

KMHE is a prestigious annual event that challenges university student teams to design and build vehicles with maximum energy efficiency. Not only does it provide a platform for participants to showcase their skills, but it also marks significant advancements in Indonesian automotive technology. Bengawan Team UNS General Manager, Adam Sulthoni Wibowo, expressed his pride in his team’s achievements.

“We are incredibly proud of our accomplishments at KMHE 2024. Out of 83 participating teams, Bengawan Team proved to be the best, showing that our innovation and hard work are well-deserved recognition,” Adamsaid , as quoted on ft.uns.ac.id, Thursday (17/10/2024).

Athariq Zhafari Aufar, the Non-Technical Manager of Bengawan Team UNS, extended his gratitude to sponsors and UNS for their strong support.

“Without the moral and financial support from our university and sponsors, this achievement would have been difficult to attain. This success drives us to continue our research and innovation in the future,” Athariq added.

Bengawan Team UNS’s accomplishments were made possible with guidance from expert faculty advisors, including Dr. Hammar Ilham Akbar, S.Pd., M.T.; Dr. Rendy Adhi Rachmanto, S.T., M.T.; and Prof. Dr. Eng. Syamsul Hadi, M.T. With this achievement, Bengawan Team UNS has once again set a new benchmark in sustainable automotive development, inspiring other student teams to innovate toward a more energy-efficient future.

Iwan Wisnu Anggono, S.S., M.Si., Head of Academic and Student Affairs at UNS, representing the Acting Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ahmad Yunus, M.S., expressed his pride in the achievements of the Bengawan Formula Student Team UNS and fully supports the team as they compete internationally. He also encouraged the team to enjoy the moment and the euphoria of the competition.

“Congratulations for the hard work of all team members over the past year in perfecting their creation, Nawasena, which will compete in Europe soon. We also thank the sponsors who have supported the students in preparing for this competition,” Iwan said in his speech at the Nawasena Launch Event on Wednesday (31/7/2024).

Prof. Venty Suryanti, S.Si., M.Phil., Ph.D., Director of the Directorate of Innovation and Downstreaming (DIH) UNS, who was also present representing the Acting Rector of UNS, wished the Bengawan Formula Student Team UNS success and smooth competition in Italy.

The Formula SAE Italy (FSAE) 2024 competition is a student formula competition organized by SAE International and ATA (Associazione Tecnica dell’Autoveicolo) at the Varano ‘de Melegari Circuit in Italy. The Bengawan Formula Student Team UNS will participate in two main events: the Dynamic Event and the Static Event.

“The team will compete in FSAE Italy 2024 from September 3 to 8. Nawasena will compete in the Combustion Vehicle class. There are two main events: Static Events, which include a business plan presentation, cost and manufacturing report, and design presentation, and Dynamic Events, which include acceleration, skid pad, autocross, and endurance categories,” Delon Sasongko, General Manager of the Bengawan Formula Student Team UNS, explained.

Jidhan Abdillah, the Technical Manager of the Bengawan Formula Student Team UNS, stated that to prepare for FSAE Italy 2024, Nawasena has undergone improvements from its predecessor, Pancawala 2. The biggest change in the car is the engine, as Nawasena now uses the KTM 450 SX-F 2020, which features an injection system.

“We have made many improvements to Nawasena, such as optimizing the suspension geometry calculations, steering loud, radiator, and reducing the car’s weight. Aerodynamic enhancements have been made to make it lighter and more dynamic. Nawasena also uses a honeycomb impact attenuator (IA) to optimize driver safety,” Jidhan explained.

The General Manager added that preparations for Nawasena to compete in FSAE Italy 2024 are about 80 percent complete, and UNS is the only team representing Indonesia in the competition.

This topped their achievement last year, in which they also competed in the event but did not qualify due to lack of minimum score required. Plenty of innovation and upgrade was done to the Astaka car this year. The upgrades included addition of front and back spoiler, engine performance upgrade, as well as addition to valve on the face of the car for better aerodynamics settings.

A member of FSAE UNS’s Bengawan Team, Bhre Wangsa Lenggana, said that although he and the team did not win the awards, competing in SFJ 2017 itself was already a big accomplishment, for they had to complete several stages before being able to compete in the event. Preparation were done since January although the event was held on 4-9^th of September.

The manufacturing of Astaka cars were also very costly. It took at least ± 120 million rupiahs, which were obtained from Ministry of Higher Education, UNS, sponsors, and also UNS global challenge.

“The process of manufacturing and assembly has been started since January to August. Then we completed the requirements to compete in SFJ 2017, which include car specification, car eligibility video, and several other documents. After we send that, we are pronounced eligible to compete in SFJ 2017,” Bhre added.

This achievement got positive feedback from the dean of Faculty of Engineering UNS, Dr. Sholichin MT.
