BSI Entrepreneurship Talents Onboarding is an effort from BSI to shape young entrepreneurs in Central Java, especially from UNS. The event, which consisted of an inspiring speech, talkshow, and BSI Entrepreneurship Talent program 2022 socialization, was attended by the Vice-Mayor of Surakarta, Teguh Prakosa; Vice-Rector for Management and Human Resources Affairs UNS, Prof. Bandi; and CEO BSI Region Semarang, Imam Hidayat S.

In his opening remark, Prof. Bandi stated that UNS had offered Islamic or sharia economy courses from early 2000, enabling its alumni to pursue a career in the sharia financial industry. Prof. Bandi also explained that in the last decade, Islamic finance had become one of the factors with the fastest growth in the global financial industry. “Global Islamic Economy Report 2020 estimated that the value of Islamic financial assets to increase by 13.9% in 2019, from IDR 2.2 trillion to IDR 2.88 trillion. In 2021 in line with the increasing global trend, sharia finance in Indonesia showed positive growth amid the pandemic,” Prof. Bandi added. He also hoped that the program could serve as a catalysator to maximize sharia economy potential in Indonesia to achieve total benefits for Indonesians and build Indonesia as the center for the halal industry.

CEO BSI Region Semarang, Imam Hidayat, also appreciated UNS for hosting the event. He explained that BSI Entrepreneurship Talent is a competition, assistance, training, and awarding for the young generation who start their business. The competition is also open for entrepreneurs who try to increase their business capacity to achieve the economic revival of the younger generation. “This reflects the meaning and objective of BSI Young Talents. There will be other agenda besides onboarding, including workshop, awarding, and partnership,” Imam explained.

The Vice-Mayor of Surakarta, Teguh Prakosa, also cheered for the participants. “A business has challenges; there are ups and downs. If it is left for ten days without recovering, it means that (you are) not ready for the challenge. So, be ready to face the challenge,” Teguh reminded.

Surakarta Municipal Government also had taken various efforts to support MSMEs in the city, including exporting local products through the diaspora. Although in small numbers, Teguh explained that there is a probability of increasing the quantity. The government also collaborates with UNS and Solo Techno Park to facilitate community members who want to pursue the herbal industry. “We also invited Shopee and training for MSMEs there (Shopee),” he added. The PKS draft was signed directly by the Dean of SV UNS, Drs. Santoso Tri Hananto, M.Acc., Ak and PT. BSI, Hari Nopa Kurniawan Area Manager for Surakarta. The signing ceremony was also attended by the Vice-Dean for Academic, Research, and Student Affairs SV UNS, Agus Prayitno, S.S., M.CALL, Vice-Dean for Human Resources, Finance, and Logistics Affairs SV UNS, Abdul Aziz, S.Kom., M.Cs, and Vice-Dean for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information Affairs SV UNS, Dr. Eng. Herman Saputro, S.Pd., M.Pd., M.T.

In his remark, Drs. Santoso Tri Hananto, M.Acc., Ak stated that this PKS is a follow-up of the memorandum of understanding signing between UNS and PT. BSI on 10 September 2021. He explained that there are eight programs in SV UNS involved in the PKS implementation with PT. BSI Surakarta, Diploma Program (D-3) in Finance and Banking, Diploma Program (D-3) in Accounting, Diploma Program (D-3) in Taxation, Diploma Program (D-3) in Trade Management, Diploma Program (D-3) in Business Management, Diploma Program (D-3) in Marketing Management, Diploma Program (D-3) in Informatics Engineering, Diploma Program (D-4) in Demography and Civil Registration.

“I encourage the programs to achieve and implement an activity from this PKS. (We do not) want this PKS to be not implemented or only stored in our bookshelves,” Santoso stated.

On the same occasion, Hari Nopa Kurniawan shared his gratitude for the collaboration between SV UNS and PT. BSI Surakarta. He hopes this collaboration could benefit both parties.

“Hopefully, the collaboration with SV UNS could bring benefits and positive effect for all of us,” he stated.

He also mentioned that the collaboration with SV UNS is PT. BSI Surakarta strategy that targeted university as its partners. In the future, PT. BSI wants to pursue marketing and business strategy under collaboration with universities. Humas UNS

The memorandum of understanding regulates the use of sharia banking services and products and the implementation of the Higher Education Tri Dharma and Merdeka Belajar – Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) Program. The collaboration aims to facilitate UNS to utilize sharia banking services and products, synergize and optimize the potentials and resources from both parties to develop the institution, and develop human resources.

BSI was established by the Indonesian government by merging Bank Syariah Mandiri, BNI Syariah, and BRI Syariah on 1 February 2021.

In his remark, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, S.H., M.Hum., hopes that this collaboration could bring positive results for both parties.

“I hope this collaboration does not become a silence MoU, but it could bring collaborative, innovative, and mutualistic activities that benefit both parties,” Prof. Jamal stated.

Dr. Hery Gunardi, M.B.A., the President Director of PT BSI Tbk., supported Prof. Jamal’s statement and said that he is delighted that BSI could collaborate with UNS as a partner in sharia banking products and services development. Dr. Hery hopes that this sharia bank could act as the motor that moves the national economy.

“We hope that the sharia finance and banking could become a motor for the national economy now and in the future,” Dr. Hery stated. Humas UNS
