UNS — Starting from people’s concern over a large number of fake pure honey products in the market, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta student created a pure honey brand called “Neebee.” Mochammad Nibraasuddiin Aley Z, Informatics Program student Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA) UNS and the brand’s founder, admitted that he generated tens of millions of Rupiah in his first year.

To uns.ac.id, Nibras, who won a silver medal for Indonesia and UNS in Advanced Innovation Jam (AI-JAM) Japan 2019, shared his experiences in building his honey business. He stated that his business was not established merely for profits but also as a means to facilitate the community in accessing pure honey without worry.

“Honey is mentioned in Al Qur`an Surah An-Nahl 69. Allah promised that the yields of bees are medicines for many illnesses. Sadly, many products in the market to large producers created concern for the community,” he stated.

Nibras said that the Neebee brand was established on 1 October 2020 and developed thanks to his collaboration with an investor he met during umrah. The friendship he built from the worship activities continued when they returned to Indonesia and talked about Nibras’ business idea. The investor helped Nibras with capital and suggested the brand name “Nibi,” which comes from Nibras name and the pronunciation of bee in Indonesian. However, over time, Nibras thought that Neebee was more appropriate for his brand.

“It started from what I said in the car with the investor. I talked about my interest in the honey business because many products are faking honey even to the point that the real product was discriminated,” he stated.

Opening Business

After the chat with his investor, Nibras conducted research on 9 September 2020 with an experienced beekeeper, asking for a reference from many people, and searching for information through the internet. His product was sourced directly from beekeepers with packaging developed by Nibras himself. Although starting the business was not an easy task, Nibras said that he is delighted because for him, it is equal to educating people on the benefits of honey from Al Qur`an to his consumers.

“I am delighted to make a transaction with Allah, in any form. Including educating the community on four products of bees such as propolis, royal jelly, bee pollen, and honey as mentioned in Al Qur`an,” he stated.

Nibras also said that the education he provided for his consumers, including the explanation on pure honey, raw honey, and assistance for treatment. Through honey, he could share with many people about the beneficial natural products and provide a solution for their issues. In selling his products, Nibras employed multiple marketing channels, from door to door, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, reseller, and online. He also provides an offline store at his house for consumers who want to come and visit.

Challenges

Early in his business, Nibras was faced with low sales in the three-first months of his business. The sales started to show a positive trend on the fourth month that continued to the end of 2020, with him generating tens of millions of rupiahs. The sales allow Nibras to invest more in business assets and savings. Nibras also stated that he would open programs to introduce his products to the community.

“Alhamdulillah delighted to help with healthier, fresher, and look better,” he said.

Nibras is also preparing a product expansion in collaborating with collagen producers because honey is known as a collagen catalysator that provides faster and more significant results. Humas UNS

UNS — The birth of startups has kept increasing in the last decade. Many people decided to establish this kind of business and encourage others to do the same. University students are among the people encouraged to build a startup using their interesting ideas. Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Innovation Hub understood this need and held Hello Startup Solo Raya class in collaboration with the Directorate of Innovation and Downstreaming UNS and National Movement for 1,000 Digital Startup.

The classes discuss the detail of startup business and are open for all Indonesian people, especially those in Solo Raya. Hello Startup Solo Raya aims to educate the community and build people’s awareness of the startup sector. Its 7th class was held on Friday (26/11/2021) and discussed the “Financial Management: How to Manage Finance for Startup?” with professional speakers, Mario Andaru (Chief Executive Officer/CEO Koraroom) and Akhdan Faiz (Chief Financial Officer/CFO Koraroom).

In the intensive class, the speakers shared their experience and views on the financial management process in a startup. Opening the class, the CFO of Koraroom, Akhdan Faiz, shared his view on startup financial management and said that finance is not the main factor that determines the success of a startup.

“In the past, I thought that to build a startup needs the fund. It turned out that I was wrong. The vital part in establishing a startup is the timing,” Akhdan said. He continued with the applications used in managing Koraroom finance and added that managers need to select an application that meets their business needs.

The CEO of Koraroom, Mario Andaru, shared his strategy as a decision-maker in managing finance. He emphasized that startup founders should not be rushing and reminded the four main pillars in establishing a startup: finance, marketing, product, and human capital.

“Team is the main (factor). From the four pillars that I mentioned, human capital is the main. It is useless for us to create a product when we don’t have a team,” Maria added.

The class is expected to build awareness for startup founders, especially university students, to be careful in managing their business strategy. Humas UNS

UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta expands its collaboration network with multinational companies. The recent addition to its wide collaboration network was marked by a signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT. Nihon Seiki Indonesia on Friday (12/11/2021). PT. Nihon Seiki Indonesia is a Foreign Investment Firm (PMA) from Japan that is engaged in electronic and automotive components in Bekasi, West Java.

The MoU was signed directly by Vice-Rector for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information Affairs UNS Prof. Sajidan and General Manager PT. Nihon Seiki Indonesia Widodo Bodro Husodo, S.E. The ceremony was witnessed by the Dean of Faculty of Engineering (FT) UNS Dr. Techn. Ir. Sholihin As’ad and the Dean of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA) UNS Harjana, Ph.D.

This MoU aims to synergize the potentials and resources from both institutions in achieving collaboration in education, research, community service, and development of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program in UNS. In his opening remark, Prof. Sajidan stated that the MoU covers three agreements with PT. Nihon Seiki Indonesia.

“This Memorandum of Understanding covers education, research and community services, MBKM implementation, and opens possibilities for other collaborations agreed by both institutions in a written agreement,” Prof. Sajidan mentioned.

Representing the Rector of UNS Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, who could not attend the ceremony, Prof. Sajidan hoped that the signed MoU could be implemented well. He also hoped that the agreement would not stop as a ceremonial occasion and emphasized the importance of commitment in implementing the agreement, especially in supporting the MBKM program in UNS.

“As always mentioned by the Rector, MoU should not stop at signing. It needs to be implemented. Besides, now, we need a link and match between industry and university,” Prof. Sajidan added.

General Manager PT. Nihon Seiki Indonesia Widodo Bodro Husodo, S.E., shared his thanks to UNS for the ceremony. Representing PT. Nihon Seiki Indonesia, he stated that his party would fully support the development of students’ skills, especially in industrial practice, because students are demanded to master the material and understand the implementation of knowledge they learn in the university.

“This is vital. Maybe later, UNS could send their students to learn at our place. And UNS research finding could be useful for what we are doing and for students,” Widodo stated. Humas UNS

UNS — The Alumni Association (IKA) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta invited a number of notable alumni in the business sector through the Wedangan IKA UNS on Wednesday (6/10/2021). The event was conducted virtually through the Zoom Cloud Meeting application and Livestream Broadcast on the UNS Youtube channel, this time Wedangan IKA UNS discusses the topic of Business Forum.

Through this Business Forum discussion, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, as the Rector of UNS, hopes that the entire UNS academic members can prepare themselves to build Indonesia’s economic recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic. The pandemic crisis that has been occurred for almost 2 (two) years has affected several sectors, including the economic sector. Nevertheless, a breath of fresh air was delivered by the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) with a report on Indonesia’s economic growth in the second quarter of 2021 by 7.07%. This shows that Indonesia’s economic recovery is in progress.

To support and encourage Indonesia’s economic recovery, members of IKA UNS share their ideas to assist the UNS stakeholders in contributing to restore the Indonesian economy through entrepreneurship development.

Entrepreneurship development is necessary for the national economy. A country will flourish when its entrepreneur ratio reaches more than 10%. Therefore, higher education institutions are the right place to create young entrepreneurs.

Higher education institutions can encourage new entrepreneurs through the provision of Entrepreneurship courses. Tung Desem Waringin, one of the UNS alumni who became a well-known motivator and marketing expert in Indonesia, said that the Entrepreneurship course is essential for students.

“In fact, this course also needs to be given to cross departments students. Students of the Faculty of Medicine also need to learn about entrepreneurship,” said Tung Desem.

Previously, Tung Desem Waringin emphasized that an Entrepreneurship course is different from Business Science. One of his children had the opportunity to study entrepreneurship at a reputable university. Meanwhile, his other child had the opportunity to study Business Science, which prompted Tung Desem Waringin to understand the difference between the two fields of knowledge.

“Entrepreneurship learns about how to find opportunities, turning opportunities into proposals, collecting data, team building, and ideas execution. This is what entrepreneurship means in the true sense,” added Tung Desem Waringin.

Meanwhile, business science discusses an entirely different topic related to business management, such as operation, human resources, and marketing.

“When a business is established, then, it can be handed to those studying business to be managed,” said Tung Desem.

By providing Entrepreneurship courses, higher education institutions can nurture entrepreneurial spirit to accelerate Indonesia’s economic recovery post-Covid-19 pandemic. Similar notions were conveyed by Hariyadi Sukamdani, the Chairperson of the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo). Hariyadi said that there is an opportunity for entrepreneurial development in Indonesia after the Covid-19 pandemic.

“To take this opportunity, the young generation with excellent capacity at collaboration and partnership can establish networking with other sectors,” said Hariyadi.

Similar collaborations can be established between UNS and fellow entrepreneurs as liaisons. For example, by establishing consulting institutions initiated by the campus. Humas UNS

UNS — Untal or digital invitation was developed as a business idea by three students of Diploma Program (D-3) in Informatics Engineering (TI) Vocational School (SV) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta. Through this business plan, the team won 1st prize in the Business Plan Competition “Millenials Creative Entrepreneur of Digital Marketing”, Saturday (19/6/2021).

Untal is an adaptive business concept amid the Covid-19 pandemic proposed by Adila Arya Kusumastuti, Daffa Mudia Athifah, and Destya Vinka Wahyu Rosa Adinda in “Tim Angels”. Their business proposal titled “The Application of Website as Digital Invitation Production Process in the Millennials Era” was developed based on three backgrounds, including the number of firms that perform innovation through the use of information technology and the internet.

“We also see the number of benefits for firms that utilize information technology advancement and the internet. Particularly, due to the Covid-19 pandemic that brings limitations to people activities,” Daffa Mudia Athifah explained.

Under the supervision of Yudho Yudhanto S. Kom., M. Kom, Tim Angels saw the opportunity of digital invitation business and considered the benefits of such invitation. “Such as reducing outdoor activities. With the digital invitation, the distribution is easier because it can be done through email, link, or WhatsApp,” Daffa Mudia Athifah said.

The preparation for Untal took two weeks because the team started from finding references and shared the proposal works among team members. The preparation process was held fully online because each member lives in a different city. The team also conducted the preparation during their final semester exam, which according to Daffa Mudia Athifah, did not affect their seriousness in preparing the proposal.

“We need to manage our time to work on the proposal while doing assignments and preparation for final semester examination. We need to manage our focus,” she said.

With their achievement, Daffa Mudia Athifah stated that Tim Angels is preparing to put their proposal into real business to help community members preparing digital invitations through their website. “After winning this (competition), we hope to develop our digital invitation website design further so that other people could feel the benefits,” she concluded. Humas UNS
