UNS — Another international achievement was made by students of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta. This time around, the achievement was accomplished by Bayu Aji Prasetya, a student of the Master Program in Cultural Studies, UNS Postgraduate School, and Rizka Lailatul Rohmah, an alumnus of the Four-Year Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Study Program, UNS. Bayu and Rizka won 2nd place in the Scientific Poster category for the 6th International Conference of the Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organizations (CAHOCON). The competition was organized by one of the accreditation consortium organizations for the health sector in India.

Competing in this championship, the two students proposed the idea of rehabilitation exercise as a treatment for patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The proposed exercise combines Ai Chi with music therapy. “Ai Chi is one of the hydrotherapy programs that can be implemented in lung rehabilitation programs aimed at improving respiratory function in people with COPD. On the other hand, music therapy has a positive effect on people with COPD and serves as a complementary therapy (complementary medicine). COPD patients experience a fundamental respiratory inability, usually in the form of shortness of breath, chronic cough, chronic sputum production, and limited activity,” explained Bayu, Tuesday (26/4/2022). The Master’s student added that this physical exercise for people with COPD aims primarily to reduce symptoms, improve quality of life, and improve daily activities.

In this competition, they must pass various stages before being awarded the title. At the beginning stage, they submit a short essay containing the background, objectives, methods, results, and conclusions. Through this idea, Bayu and Rizka managed to eliminate more than 400 other contenders from various countries, which finally selected four finalists who qualified for the final stage. After this stage, they sent posters by post to the committee as presentation material on April 3, 2022.

When it was announced that they won 2nd place, Bayu admitted that he was thrilled with the news and did not expect it. “Thank God we were happy and surprised because we should have presented the material on-stage there (India), but it turned out that there was an amendment in the rating system. The preliminary assessment, which was previously based on the presentation, is turned into based on the jury’s assessment. So, the jury assessed the posters we had sent,” he said.

A similar response was also expressed by Rizka Lailatul Rohmah. She was exhilarated and grateful for the opportunity to participate and win the competition. “Surely, I am delighted to participate in the largest healthcare event in India. Moreover, the theme is in line with my area of interest in building a ‘safety’ culture. The Occupational Health and Safety culture must be applied in various sectors, such as the medical sector, where patient safety and service become the main objective of health service,” Rizka said.

Rizka hopes that through these activities, they can bring innovations that can encourage continuous quality improvement and assist health organizations in developing a safety culture. Humas UNS

UNS — Proud achievement was accomplished by the collaboration between Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta student and faculty member; Bayu Aji Prasetya and Asep Yudha Wirajaya, M.A., who succeeded in transliterating a manuscript to be published by the National Library (Perpusnas) of the Republic of Indonesia (PNRI). The news was shared by Bayu on his Instagram account, announcing that his transliteration manuscript will become one of 20 texts to be published by PNRI in 2022.

In the interview, Bayu explained that he transliterated the Kitab Pengajaran MSS Malay B.13 manuscript stored by the British and Singapore National Library. The manuscript itself is a law consisting of several articles teaching daily life activities that align with Al-Qur’an. “But it is delivered in simpler language,” Bayu explained.

The three hundred years manuscript was written in Jawi letter and Malay language, which Bayu and his teacher transliterated into Latin characters to facilitate comprehension from the community members. “According to the metadata from British Library, the manuscript was written in 1794 using Kawi letter and in the Malay language, with a total of 189 pages. I studied the manuscript in my undergraduate thesis. This time it is transliterated, and I submitted it together with my supervisor,” the Master student in Cultural Studies, Postgraduate School UNS stated.

The selection for manuscript publication took a great deal of time since participants were required to submit their fully completed transliteration, translation, adaptation, and study of ancient manuscripts to the committee from 10 January to 20 February 2022. Twenty transliteration texts, 20 translation texts, five adaptation texts, and five studies of ancient manuscripts were selected to be published as a book at the end of 2022 by PNRI. Participants also receive IDR 15 million funding for transliteration, IDR 20 million for translation, and IDR 25 for adaptation and study of ancient manuscripts.

Through this work, Bayu hoped that the community could be more aware of the existence of ancient manuscripts because they provide extensive information and teaching.

“Hopefully, the transliteration that we worked on could benefit the community and allow them in reading or comprehending ancient manuscripts in Jawi letters,” Bayu concluded. Humas UNS
