Prof. Jamal thanked all participants in the Executive and Competitive Table Tennis Competition this year.

He also appreciated the Managing Committee of UNS 46^th Anniversary and the Executive and Competitive Table Tennis Competition.

“Representing UNS executive board, I convey my gratitude to the academic members for participating in today’s exercise,” Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, S.H., M.Hum., stated in his opening remark.

Prof. Jamal added that the exercise is expected to improve health, especially for Muslims who are about to enter Ramadan. “Friday is also the free emission day. Thus, all UNS academic members who will enter the campus must walk or use the campus bus,” the Rector added.

The exercise was followed by a door prize draw for participants to win a motorbike, bike, television, and other prizes.

The event also added various other competitions, such as gobak sodor game by Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) UNS in front of dr. Prakosa Building UNS, and the final round of Executive and Competitive Table Tennis competition in dr. Prakosa Building UNS. Humas UNS

In his opening remark, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, S.H., M.Hum., stated that in its 46 years old, UNS had served the country and the nation in numerous ways. Prof. Jamal also stated that the university had created numerous findings in science and technology to support the nation’s competitiveness and national development. UNS also received a new status as an autonomous university (PTNBH) on 6 October 2020 and opened its Ki Hadjar Dewantara Tower on 11 March 2022 as a supporting facility for UNS’ academic activities. The new tower itself was inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI), Ir. Joko Widodo.

As mentioned by the Rector, the wayang performance is UNS’ effort to achieve its vision to become the center of science and technology development at the national and international level based on the noble values of the national cultures.

“Hopefully, this wayang performance that tells the story of Gatutkaca Kridha could teach us a lesson. This event is beneficial especially for the young generation because the story teaches (us) to remember the responsibility to build the country and how to become a young generation who understands the meaning of harmony and other positive values,” Prof. Jamal added.

Prof. Jamal greatly appreciated the hard work of the UNS 46^th Anniversary Celebration committee in preparing all events in the celebration series. The chairman of the committee and the Dean of the Faculty of Medical Science (FK) UNS, Prof. Dr. Reviono, dr., Sp.P(K) stated that this event achieves two objectives, celebrating the university anniversary while conserving the Javanese culture.

The performance was opened with the handover of paraga wayang or the set of wayang kulit puppets from Prof. Jamal to the dalang or the director of the performance, Ki MPP Bayu Aji.

Gatutkaca Kridha tells the story of Gatutkaca, a son of Pandawa, who showed his patriotic and chivalrous spirit from a young age. Gatutkaca is the righthand man for many gods for defeating the giant king of Prabu Pracona and Patih Sekipu, which provided him the opportunity to be the King of Purwacarita as his reward. Gatutkaca also received a blessing of “Wahyu Tamtama Jati” which means mighty formidable knight. Humas UNS

Conducted in Conference Room II of UNS Dr. Prakosa Building, this workshop presented four speakers, namely the Expert Team on Curriculum and Learning for the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs at Directorate General of Higher Education, Dr. Syamsul Arifin; the Head of Agronomic Research and Development Department for PT. Great Giant Pineapple, Dr. Priyo Cahyono; the Head of Agrotechnology Study Program, Agronomy Department, Universitas Brawijaya, Dr. agr. Nunun Barunawati; and the Head of Agrotechnology Study Program FP UNS, Dr. Parjanto.

In his remark, Prof. Hadiwiyono, as the Secretary-General of PAGI, mentioned that the implementation of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) Program would deliver an outcome that meets the needs of the community. Provided that it is carried out in a collaborative, participative, and cooperative manner. “PADI took a role to synchronize the perception of MBKM implementation across all Agrotechnology/Agroecotechnology study program managers, both at Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, within all universities throughout Indonesia. PAGI is established to answer the challenge faced by Agrotechnology/Agroecotechnology Study Program in their effort towards internationalization,” said Prof. Hadiwiyono in the event held on Thursday (19/5/2022).

Participants’ enthusiasm was shown by PAGI members’ attendance and representative participation from universities in Indonesia, such as Universitas Sumatera Utara, Universitas Bengkulu, Universitas Siliwangi, Universitas Muslim Indonesia, Universitas Hasanuddin, and many others. In the material presentation session, Dr. Syamsul Arifin said that the policy of the MBKM program is an adaptive, collaborative, and innovative curriculum development. “The quality of graduates become one of the aspects (of universities’ performance), such as the percentage of graduates who manage to get decent jobs, to get further studies, and self-employed graduates with sufficient income. Then, the percentage that took at least 20 credit-semester on an off-campus program,” he explained.

The second speaker, Dr. Priyo Cahyono, said that PT. Great Giant Pineapple supports the agrotechnology and agribusiness field of study to meet the needs of the Business and Industry World (DUDI). “PT. Great Giant Pineapple opens opportunities for the MBKM internships program, for certain positions that can be filled by students,” said Dr. Priyo.

Meanwhile, Dr. Parjanto also explained various access for the MBKM program that the Agrotechnology Study Program students can take. These programs include MBKM Dikti and DUDI programs, such as student exchange, internships, and UNS MBKM programs. “UNS MBKM program includes Village Development Student Community Service, Thematic Student Community Service, and Entrepreneurship Development Program. There are also activities provided by the study program, namely the teaching factory development through experimental learning of Rojo Lele rice production in Delanggu Village, Klaten, horticultural cultivation in Cabeyan Village, Sukoharjo, and a smart hydroponic program, which allows students to gain 20 credits-semester for participating in the program,” said Dr. Parjanto as Head of Agrotechnology Study Program FP UNS.

Dr. agr. Nunun Barunawati expressed her agreement with Dr. Parjanto’s explanation. “In the face of globalization and internationalization, students must have more than one competency,” she said. Representing the Rector of UNS, the UNS Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ahmad Yunus, M.S., welcomed the participants of this international seminar and performance. “This event will be our joint effort in internationalizing Bahasa Indonesia’s existence to be one of the ASEAN official languages. Thank you to the invited speakers and participants who attended today’s morning seminar. This is an excellent event because aside from the seminars, there will be cultural performances to promote Indonesian culture globally,” explained Prof. Yunus.

Following Prof. Yunus’ remarks, the Dean of FKIP UNS, Dr. Mardiyana, M.Si, who at the same time opened this international seminar and cultural performance states that, “I hope this event can be an annual event as our effort to internationalize Bahasa Indonesia. For instance, establishing cooperation with various countries that share similar concerns about Bahasa Indonesia.

The Chair for the 46th UNS Anniversary, Prof. Dr. Reviono, dr., Sp.P(K), also expressed great appreciation for the organization of this event because it shows tangible evidence of UNS internationalization. He also hopes all participants can participate until the end of the event and receive abundant benefits from the knowledge gained through this seminar. After Prof. Reviono’s speech, the Chairman of the BIPA UNS Teaching and Research Committee, Dr. Kundharu Saddhono, SS, M.Hum., delivers a welcome speech.

Dr. Kundharu said that to support the internationalization of Bahasa Indonesia, the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program (PBSI) FKIP has also hosted BIPA teaching practices abroad. “One of the current participants is a UNS student who was delegated to Yale University for a BIPA teaching internship program. Moreover, this event is part of UNS Key Performance Indicators (IKU) implementation through the BIPA program, hence, it will become UNS’ icon as a driver of BIPA in Indonesia,” said Dr. Kundharu.

Another welcome speech was delivered by the Head of Balai Bahasa Provinsi Jawa Tengah, Dr. Ganjar Harimansyah, who expressed his joy for this event’s implementation. He also hopes that he will be able to make Bahasa Indonesia even more successful after this event.

The event was also enlivened by the Cultural Stage delivered by BIPA Program Alumni from Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, and Venezuela. The event presented four invited speakers, namely, the Indonesian Language Teacher in Yale University, America, who also serves as BIPA Coordinator for Americas and Canada, Indriyo K. Sukmono; a Malay-Indonesian Language Expert from Keio University Shonan Fujisawa Campus, Tokyo, Japan, Prof. Yo Nonaka; a Senior Lecturer in Department of Philology of South-East Asia Countries, St. Petersburg State University, Russia, Banit Svetlana Viktorovna; and Function Implementer Staff for Social and Cultural Information (Pensosbud) Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) Rabat, Morocco, Mahmudin. The Dean of FK UNS, Prof. Reviono, said that Medical Fiesta 2022 was the closing activity in the 46th UNS Anniversary celebration series at the faculty level. This activity aims to meet academic needs, consisting of sports and art activities. Medical Fiesta 2022 consists of band competitions, healthy and creative gymnastics competitions, futsal competitions, stand-up comedy competitions, photography competitions, and webpage writing competitions that are attended by all FK UNS academic members.

Reporting from feb.uns.ac.id, this community service team is led by Prof. Dr. Izza Mafruhah, S.E., M.Sc., who currently serves as the Vice Dean of Academic, Research, and Student Affairs FEB UNS. In her statement, Prof. Izza reveals that this activity not only facilitates training for Karamba Fish farmers but also provides 100 Kg of fish feed and one unit of feed processing machine.

“Other than the local raw material-based fish feed production training, which was delivered by Mr. Amien Cahyo, we also provide a fish feed processing equipment. For now, we only provide one processing equipment to see how the fish feed production developed. However, we also provided the necessary materials, specifically selected from sources that are easy to obtain from the surrounding environment,” said Prof. Izza.

Representing the Dean of FEB UNS, Prof. Izza directly handed over the fish feed processing machine to Ngadimin as the Chair of Sari Mulya Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes). With the equipment provision and fish feed processing training, the BUMDes is expected to optimize the processing equipment application, both for the village of Ngargosari’s benefit and for the Sragen Regency in general.

This activity was also attended by the Regional Development Planning Agency (BAPPEDA) of Sragen Regency, the Labor Office of Sragen Regency, and fish farmers. In this training, FEB UNS invited Amien Cahyo as an instructor, with participants from the Mina Tani Fish Farmer Group, as part of BUMDes Sari Mulya. The implementation of community service is a form of follow-up to the strategic study on ecological and educational tourism development in Kedung Ombo Reservoir Area, Sragen. Humas UNS

Prof. Jamal stated that the Covid-19 pandemic had affected the management of staple foods in Indonesia, including rice distribution. The phenomenon has the potential to reduce the production level, cause price instability, and consumer preferences and behaviors. “Thus, it needs to be balanced with the food management system that could adjust to these changes,” Prof. Jamal stated. Prof. Jamal offered several strategies to solve the issue. “First, expanding harvest and rice production. To ensure that consumption for the following years is secured,” Prof. Jamal suggested.

The next suggestion is for the government to evaluate the food estate policy, whether it could increase production or damage the environment and its ecosystem. This policy should be followed by the policy on rice prices involving the farmers to strengthen their position in the distribution channel. Prof. Jamal emphasized that collaboration with farmers needs to be pursued from production to the distribution process because the price level at the farmer and processing level fluctuates from year to year.

“This uncertainty makes farmers hesitant to sell their yields, especially during the harvest season, because the price tends to be lower,” Prof. Jamal added.

The Rector continued his explanation that the government also needs to take a role in the rice distribution process because nine provinces in Indonesia are experiencing a rice deficit and are buying rice from other provinces with rice surplus. Prof. Jamal also encouraged the government to improve the role of BULOG in purchasing and controlling rice transfer from surplus areas to deficit areas.

Another option offered by Prof. Jamal is to reduce Indonesian people’s dependence on rice through diversification of local foods by substituting the source of carbs from rice with corn, sago, cassava, potatoes, and other sources of carbohydrates produced naturally and locally as a form of the efforts to maintain the local wisdom.

“Lastly, because the highest trade and distribution margin in Indonesia is imposed on retailers, the only means to reduce this margin is by controlling the rice supply chain. This step can be implemented by reducing the supply chain to increase efficiency, increase farmer’s profits, and protect consumers,” Prof. Jamal concluded. Humas UNS

There is also the Chair of the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) UNS, Budhi Widjajanti Jamal Wiwoho, the Chair of the DWP FK UNS, Nining Himawati Revinono, and other UNS academics participating in the performance. “Members of Gladhi Beksan FK UNS today consist not only from the FK UNS academics, but there are also other UNS academics members, such as from DWP UNS, the UNS academic members at the UNS headquarters, the UNS Library, and from other faculties within UNS. Students who also participate in this event allow us to forget the status between lecturers and students because here we are equally displaying art,” explained Dr. Maryani.

Additionally, Dr. Maryani also conveyed the meaning of the Gambyong Ayun-Ayun Dance presented on this occasion. “Ayun-ayun itself describes an adult’s joy, the dance is gentle, smooth, and agile. It also describes a Javanese woman who is smooth and agile,” he said. Humas UNS

In his remarks, Dr. Mardiyana said that this event was organized to announce the winners of various competitions for the 46th UNS Anniversary. Initially, this announcement ceremony was scheduled for May 2, but since it coincided with the Eid al-Fitr day, thus, it was postponed to May 20, which coincides with the National Resurgence Day. “FKIP has bestowed a mandate by the Chair of UNS Anniversary Celebration to host winners announcements for the UNS Anniversary Competitions and art performances. Originally, art performances were held on the 11th of every month, but because there were many activities at the faculty and university level yesterday, this regular event was combined with the announcement of competitions winners,” said the Dean of FKIP.

The Chair for the 46th UNS Anniversary, Prof. Reviono, said that the announcement of competition winners is marking the end of the UNS Anniversary Celebration activities series. “Later, we will announce the winners of academic and non-academic competitions. The idea to merge the two events was proposed by the Rector of UNS, thus, UNS does not only show its potential in the academic field but also in the art and culture,” said Prof. Reviono.

In line with Prof. Reviono’s opinion, Prof. Jamal asserted that UNS, as one of the universities ranked in the top university ranking, also preserves the national art and culture. “The art performance is on our monthly agenda to preserve the Indonesia archipelago art and culture. I invite colleagues to not only think about academic quality but also to preserve national culture and art.
