<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>UNS</strong> &#8212; The Natural Sciences Education Study Program (IPA), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta invites Visiting Professors for a visiting lecture program; entitled “STEM Integration in School.” The Visiting Professor Program was conducted virtually through the Zoom Meeting for two days, starting on Monday (15/11/2021) and Friday (19/11/2021). The Study Program invites Assoc. Prof. Dr. Linda Hobbs, a lecturer and expert in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Teaching and Learning from the School of Education, Deakin University, Australia.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The first day of the program was attended by more than 100 participants consisting of lecturers and students of the Science Education Study Program FKIP UNS. The event started with remarks from the Head of the Science Education Study Program (Kaprodi) FKIP UNS, Dr. paed. Nurma Yunita Indriyanti, M.Sc., M.Sc. Following the welcome remark was the opening speech from the Vice-Dean for Academic, Research, and Student Affairs FKIP UNS, Prof. Dr. Slamet Subiyantoro, M.Sc., which at the same time opened the event symbolically.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Starting her presentation, Dr. Hobbs delivers material covering STEM in Australia, Why STEM? Framing STEM (What is It?), Approaches to STEM in Schools, STEM Teaching and Learning, Doing STEM, and What Have We Learned So Far about How to Implement STEM Well? Next, Dr. Hobbs also provides activities for students to apply STEM in groups, to design a nature-inspired technology.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">On the second day, Dr. Hobbs continued her material on STEM implementation in Indonesia – how does it compare to Australia? Planning for STEM Learning and Assessment, Looking for Construction of New Practices and Beliefs, Key Pillars for Successful and Sustainable, STEM Programs in Schools, and Final Messages about Making STEM Education Work. After the material presentation, the event continued with a question and answer session. Some of the attending lecturers and students are interested in discussing with Dr. Hobbs about STEM and its application in schools. The event led by Bayu Antrakusuma, M.Pd., as moderator, went smoothly to the end of the event.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This Visiting Professor Program is expected to strengthen the Science Education Study Program FKIP UNS academic members’ knowledge of STEM. As a Lecturer of the Science Education Study Program, Bayu hopes that this activity can prepare FKIP students, as prospective teachers, to implement STEM in their schools.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>UNS</strong> &#8212; As an effort to expand knowledge in preparing a competitive proposal in Student Creativity Program (PKM), the Out of Main Campus Diploma Program (PSDKU) D-3 in Informatics Engineering held a Seminar on Strategies to Prepare Competitive Proposal. The webinar is expected to build a sustainable and leading Human Resources in Informatics Engineering in line with the D-3 Informatics Engineering Program vision, which runs its activities in Madiun. This event invited students to present their creative and innovative ideas properly and compete at national and international levels.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Deputy Director of Academic, Research, Student Affairs, and Planning Vocational School (SV) UNS, Agus Dwi Priyanto, S.S, M. CALL., in his opening remark, reminded the participants that competitiveness does not appear suddenly but need to be honed and strengthened with collaboration among peers in the same field or from different fields.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“When we do something together, but not just distribute the work, insha’Allah the result will be better,” Agus Dwi Priyanto M.Call., stated on Monday (21/6/2021).</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The speaker in the webinar was the Chief of Education and Student Affairs Unit and PKM Assistance Faculty of Engineering Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Yogyakarta, Dr. Eng. Ir. Herianto, S.T., M.Eng., IPM., ASEAN Eng., who delivered material on the Strategy to Prepare Competitive PKM Proposal.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In his material, Dr. Herianto explained that a team has common internal issues that stemmed from bad collaboration. He emphasized that students form a group with good cooperation that will enable them to achieve success in the National Student Science Week (Pimnas) 2022.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“The first strategy if you prepare a proposal, please find a team who are willing to collaborate. This is vital,” Dr. Herianto emphasized.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Understanding the PKM guidelines is another key factor in preparing a proposal. Common mistakes, such as formatting and signature, will guarantee rejection. Students should also understand the tracks offered in PKM. Dr. Herianto reminded that participants pay attention to the revised fields each year and submit to the related field. This way, students are required to be innovative, fully understand, and obey the regulation.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Dr. Herianto also mentioned that informatics science students have a large opportunity to create work that solves problems in the community in the digitalization era. “This is your time, Informatics Engineering. If you could manage it well, your proposal will be excellent. It is greatly needed,” Dr. Herianto said. <strong>Humas UNS</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">They are encouraged to create this application after knowing that frequent floods struck Bengawan Solo River. It causes the water turbid. Furthermore the water quality checking is also still done manually. According to Ratih, SIAB is application based on the Internet of Things (IoT) used to examine water quality and water distribution in real time.</span></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Ratih also explained that the tool consists of two features namely SIAB monitoring and SIAB distribution. SIAB Monitoring consists of several waterproof sensors such as pH sensors, temperature sensors, and turbidity sensors. Its function is to observe water quality on line. While SIAB Distribution consists of sensor flow meter to know the discharge and volume of water to detect leakage of pipes and calculate the cost of daily water consumption. The data obtained is sent to the server using WIFI connectivity, thus the user can monitor it through the smart phone application.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Creating SIAB application made them won the first prize in the TOP Generation Challenge event in Jakarta, Thursday (14/12/2017). Ratih, Sifa, and Imam succeeded in setting aside 1300 proposals from all over Indonesia which were then selected into 5 finalists for the startup and pre-startup categories.</span></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">This team consisted of student Hansen Kusuma and Lecturers I Wayan Suletra, Yusuf Priyandari, and Wakhid Ahmad.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">They wrote a paper entitled “Criterion Determination for Waste Management Installation (IPAL) Through Fuzzy AHP Approach along with Tofu and Tempe Industry In Mojosongo Village”.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">This topic was chosen based on the water and air pollution due to industrial activities in Mojosongo.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Therefore Hansen and friends were interested to investigate using IPAL location. It can be used by government of Surakarta to decide the location of IPAL.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">“The chosen criteria are expected to be deliberations for the government on the subject of IPAL construction in Mojosongo,” said Hansen.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Hansen successfully defeated 200 participants from entire Indonesia. Furthermore, Wahyudi Sutopo, Head of Industrial Engineering program was selected as the general chairman of BKSTI 2017-2020. <strong><em>humas-red.uns/Ref/Eln</em></strong></p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>UNS</strong> &#8211; Bengawan Team of <em>Formula Student Automotive Engineering</em> Universitas Sebelas Maret (FSAE UNS) Surakarta with their Astaka car successfully managed to pass the minimum point to compete on Shizuoka circuit stadium in the 2017 Student Formula Japan (SFJ). SFJ is a prestigious annual automotive event organized by Japan Society of Automotive Engineering.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">This topped their achievement last year, in which they also competed in the event but did not qualify due to lack of minimum score required. Plenty of innovation and upgrade was done to the Astaka car this year. The upgrades included addition of front and back spoiler, engine performance upgrade, as well as addition to valve on the face of the car for better aerodynamics settings.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">A member of FSAE UNS’s Bengawan Team, Bhre Wangsa Lenggana, said that although he and the team did not win the awards, competing in SFJ 2017 itself was already a big accomplishment, for they had to complete several stages before being able to compete in the event. Preparation were done since January although the event was held on 4-9<sup>th</sup> of September.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The manufacturing of Astaka cars were also very costly. It took at least ± 120 million rupiahs, which were obtained from Ministry of Higher Education, UNS, sponsors, and also UNS global challenge.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">“The process of manufacturing and assembly has been started since January to August. Then we completed the requirements to compete in SFJ 2017, which include car specification, car eligibility video, and several other documents. After we send that, we are pronounced eligible to compete in SFJ 2017,” Bhre added.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">This achievement got positive feedback from the dean of Faculty of Engineering UNS, Dr. Sholichin MT.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: justify;">By 9 September 2015, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GMF AeroAsia. The cooperation offered by AeroAsia are in forms of practical work program, internship program and research development. Through this cooperation, Industrial Engineering Department of UNS managed to send 6 students to represent their papers at International MultiConference of Engineers and Computer Scientist (IMECS) 2016 held on 16th–18th of March 2016 in Hongkong. IMECS is an annual conference which focuses on computer engineering and mechanical engineering managed by IAENG (International Association of Engineering). At this international conference which is engaged by 261 participants around the world, a paper made by Rillo Satria Wahyudin entitled <em>“Model Optimasi Alokasi Sumber Daya Tenaga Kerja, Material, dan Peralatan di Unit Line Maintenance GMF  Aeroasia”</em> is success gaining the predicate for Best Student Paper of The 2016 IAENG International Conference on Industrial Engineering.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Rillo, through his paper, creates mathematical model illustrating the allocation of human resources, materials, and equipment of in line maintenance of GMF AeroAsia. GMF AeroAsia is a subsidiary of PT. Garuda Indonesia which engages in the field of <em>aircraft </em>MRO (<em>Maintenance, Repairing and Overhaul</em>) <em>multi</em>–<em>service </em>which provides 8 types of service. The allocation of human resources in this company is based on least hiring cost principle, so the human resources choosing priority determined by the type of worker which has the least hiring cost. According to Rillo, the allocation model that he found is an initial step though it is small, yet if it continues to be developed following the further steps, is possible to be implemented.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">In line with, General Manager Strategy Management Office of GMF AeroAsia, Suryo Hardiono, said that this model would be developed continuously. “The model that we are looking for should be adjusted with the operational condition in the real field, material-based resource optimal point, movement or people power and dynamic workload. By having many human resources in Indonesia, we (GMF) need a fast and accurate model to decide the amount of resources will be allocated so that it can be optimal. We can compare, the way we depute the workers from a branch office to the others and the way we recruit the workers, which one is the cheapest and most efficient. And Rillo’s model is the best,” Suryo explained, who is also in charge to guide Rillo during his paper compilation. “This model will be developed continually, by using real and accurate data.”</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The Chief of Industrial Engineering Department, Wahyudi Sutopo also delivered his response regarding to Rillo’s success on getting the best paper predicate at the international conference. According to him, this project had been planned to be cooperation between UNS and GMF AeroAsia. “This is a scheduled and well-structured project, an onward step which is not accidental. Through internship and practical work programs, UNS is able to produce various works that motivate other students to keep on working,” Wahyudi concluded. <em><strong>[anggra.red.uns.ac.id]</strong></em></p>
