UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta received a special gift to close 2021; the inauguration of a new professor in Financial Management at a very young age, 37 years old. Prof. Irwan Trinugroho, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., is the 19th Professor in the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) and 245th Professor in UNS. The inauguration ceremony was held in a hybrid event from G.P.H. Haryo Mataram Auditorium UNS and online through the Zoom Meeting application and live streaming at UNS YouTube channel.

In his remark, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, stated that he is proud of the special end-year gift.

“We are proud because, at the end of 2021, UNS received a special gift with the new professor. This proved UNS commitment and focused on meeting the ideal number of professors (in the university),” Prof. Jamal stated.

The Rector added that he hoped UNS Professors have activities with impacts on the community. “It will be very beautiful if UNS professors have the activities to explore knowledge based on the local wisdom, not only studying phenomenon based on western perspectives and theories. Moreover, being a professor is not only about meeting administrative requirements, but also productivity, capacity, authority, and impact for their profession and the community,” Prof. Jamal stated.

Currently, UNS has 207 active professors, 1,855 faculty members, 1,921 academic staff, and 44,000 students; all are components that could contribute to advancing UNS and building the nation. Prof. Jamal had a special message for Prof. Irwan to become a bridge between UNS academic members and international academia.

Concluding his remark, Prof. Jamal hoped that God blesses the efforts made by UNS.

“To all professors and attendees of this event, solemnly, I deliver my gratitude and apologize if there are many shortcomings in holding this ceremony. May Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala always blesses our best efforts,” Prof. Jamal hoped. Humas UNS

UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Fransisca Ervin Ayu Puspita Ningrum, student of Management Program, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNS brought new proud achievement for the university by Winning the 1st place in Sukoharjo District Tourism Ambassador Election 2021 at the end of October 2021. The last-semester student admitted that she was delighted and grateful for the achievement.

“Grateful, touched, and proud to be trusted to represent Sukoharjo and introduce it to more people. But I fully comprehend that this is not the end, but a beginning to work together in assisting the government in promoting tourism in Sukoharjo and a beginning to be a better person,” Ervin stated on Sunday (14/11/2021).

The long selection process started on May 2021 with a myriad of selection stages from written examination, public speaking, and interview. The written examination was on tourism and general knowledge, followed by a public speaking assessment in which the participant received a question to be answered in front of the juries and other contestants. “The interview consists of Javanese language examination, English, tourism, nationalism, and general knowledge,” she added.

Ervin stated that one of her reasons to participate in the contest was because she did not want to miss a valuable experience to be part of Sukoharjo Tourism Ambassador. She also feels that being an ambassador will provide an opportunity for her to develop her potential better. “Not only for my personal interests but also for the interests of people,” she said.

The ambassador also shared that she received full supports from her family, especially during the delay in the grand final round due to the severe Covid-19 condition in Indonesia. Ervin hoped that her new title could contribute to the Sukoharjo Tourism Ambassadorial name. She will continue to promote all aspects of the Sukoharjo District to the community.

“As a university student, keep trying to be good at academics but do not forget the environment and neighborhood. We need to be sensitive and responsive to help our surroundings,” she concluded. Humas UNS

UNS — The Master Program in Management (MM) Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta won the Indonesia Digital Popular Brand Award (IDPBA) 2021 as a MM education institution with the best digital media management in Indonesia. The award was handed online through the IDPBA ceremony on Thursday (28/10/2021).

Retno Tanding Suryandari, S.E., M.E., Ph.D., the Head of MM FEB UNS, explained that there are three assessment criteria in IDPBA: Search Engine Based, Social Media Based, and Websites Based. The Search Engine Based criteria were assessed through brand discussion on the internet pages and the average monthly brand search on the internet. The Social Media Based was assessed through the engagement in Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. Lastly, the Website Based criteria assessment was based on the website traffic, website access speed, and mobile user-friendliness. Ten MM programs were selected from these three criteria with early selection criteria of university reviewed in more than 10,000 search engine pages, which UNS was included in the category.

“One of the factors that I think make UNS included in the Best 10 (is because) UNS actively uses its social media besides formal media at internet pages in introducing UNS and its programs. The utilization of social media, such as YouTube, Instagram, Twitter that become an assessment criterion for university or program traffic,” Retno Tanding Suryandari, Ph.D. explained.

She also explained that besides the website, currently MM UNS also utilizes other social media such as YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook to communicate with its stakeholders, prospective students, students, and information seekers. Several contents in MM social media are related to business contents, how to manage a business, and the challenges and solutions that can be taken by decision-makers for problems faced by business management and organization.

The content shared in MM UNS social media is expected to benefit students and other information seekers, such as business managers and other parties. According to Retno Tanding Suryandari, Ph.D., this award is the result of the Team’s hard works, not only the social media managers but also website managers, faculty contributions, and promotion conducted by the university for all programs in UNS. Humas UNS

UNS — Student Association (HMJ) of Development Economic Program (EP) Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held the 15th National Seminar Alcofe on Saturday (16/10/2021). The theme raised in the current national seminar was “Digital Based Creative Economy Optimally Recover the Economy in the Pandemic”.

Broadcasted through the Zoom Cloud Meeting, the national seminar invited four speakers: singer and actress Tasya Kamila, Professor in Development Economic FEB UNS Prof. Izza Mafruhah, Director of the Department of MSME Development and Consumer Protection Bank Indonesia (BI) Bandoe Widiarto, Project Management Officer JD.ID Hadi Wijaya, and awardee of Master Program in Economy and Development Studies FEB UNS Riza Indah Pramesti.

Delivering the first material, Bandoe Widiarto shared the strategic role of MSMEs and its challenges and mentioned that MSMEs have a strategic role as the source of economic growth in Indonesia. However, amid the disruption era, MSMEs faced various challenges regarding limited access to funding sources, digital preparedness, and marketing access. “There are 65.6 million MSMEs in Indonesia, and in 2019 Kemenkop UKM recorded its contribution for GDP up to 57.14% or equal to IDR 7,034.14 trillion,” Bandoe Widiarto explained.

In terms of the Covid-19 pandemic impact, he mentioned that the health crisis caused a significant decline in GDP performance and retail trade, which the majority are performed by MSMEs. Bandoe Widiarto stated that 87.5% of MSMEs experienced the negative impact of the pandemic, which translates to 2,600 MSMEs that struggling to recover from their business slumps. However, he added that digitalization helps in strengthening MSMEs resilience amid the pandemic. Therefore, online education to assist the MSMEs in marketing their product in the online market.

Bank Indonesia has implemented this type of assistance through its onboardingumkm.id where MSMEs obtained education on digital skill and mindset, digital presence and onboarding, digital marketing, and digital operation. “The educational materials are focused on the two first stages to shape MSMEs mindset to go digital because the majority of onboarding participants are a micro business,” Bandoe Widiarto explained.

In the second material, Prof. Izza Mafruhah discussed the readiness of the Indonesian workforce to face the digitalization trend in the workplace. She explained that there are two challenges for Indonesia: bonus demography and high quality and skilled workers. Prof. Izza explained that Indonesia is considered the 16th greatest economic force globally and is predicted to increase into 7th place in 2030. Therefore, with the strategic potential of Indonesia’s economy, Prof. Izza encouraged the government to apply special strategies before Indonesia entered the demography bonus. The strategy can be implemented through the development of competent human resources that pay attention to the healthcare system, education system, research, and innovation.

“Don’t let it become a demography disaster. Currently, 203.97 million people are in productive age. While 65.75 million people are not in the workforce. Around 40.96 million people are housewives, 15.35 million people are studying, and the rest 9.44%,” Prof. Izza Mafruhah explained.

In the third material, Hadi Wijaya discussed e-commerce roles as the driver of the digital economy in Indonesia. The PMO of JD.ID explained that in this modern era, people are guided by technology, starting from daily activities, driving routes, and daily financial transaction. Quoting the “Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow” by Yuval Noah Harari, Hadi Wijaya mentioned that there are three things that need to be considered in responding to the technology development in the 21st century: the computer algorithm, biotech, and medicine development to prolong people age.

“Maybe (we) could predict today that in the future, in 2050, for example, people could change their body parts like changing spare parts. This is observable from the production of robotic feet-arm for a war veteran that can be connected to the brain,” he stated.

Hadi Wijaya added that what Yuval Noah Harari wrote in the book is getting closer to reality because the current pandemic pushed digitalization in various aspects. Therefore, as a country with a dominant productive population, Indonesia is encouraged to utilize technology to its full potential. “Including the e-commerce because 125.6% mobile network and 202.6 internet users, and 170 social media active users,” he concluded.

At the end of the seminar, HMJ EP held a talkshow with Tasya Kamila, who shared her experiences in creative thinking in building her business and songwriting activities during the Covid-19 pandemic. Humas UNS

UNS — The Entrepreneurship Laboratory (KWU) of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held Startup Entrepreneurship Training through the offline and online method on Thursday (14/10/2021). The training aims to equip FEB UNS students with the skill to establish and manage new startups following the UNS key performance indicators (IKU).

The Chief of Entrepreneurship Laboratory (KWU) FEB UNS Prof. Asri Laksmi Riani explained that the training will be held until November 2021 with offline training in two classrooms and through the Zoom Cloud Meeting for online participants. “The activities started with the recruitment of entrepreneurship training from faculty members of each program in FEB,” Prof. Asri Laksmi Riani explained. After the recruitment, the laboratory conducted Training of Trainer (ToT) by inviting several speakers. “We also prepared the modules, implemented the training, prepared business proposal, presentation, assistance, and evaluation,” she added.

In this training, the KWU Laboratory UNS prepared 18 instructors and eight academic staff to help 29 student participants, 24 attended the training offline, and 5 attended the training online. The students were grouped into six groups who could choose from three business sectors, fashion, culinary, and handicraft. “Hopefully, several students could start new startups, and this activity is a pilot project for the future programs,” Prof. Asri Laksmi Riani said.

Praises

The Chief of Academic and Student Affairs Bureau of UNS, Drs. Rohman Agus Pratomo warmly welcomed the Startup Entrepreneurship Training held by KWU Laboratory FEB UNS. He stated that this kind of training could encourage students to be brave in competing, both at the university and national levels. He added that the training could train students to be willing to open a business so that they could be job creators instead of job seekers after graduating.

“KWU activities are started from now, next year students participate in university competition, and at the national level. Prepare an exciting business plan, implement, and develop (it) to attract friends, neighbors, and others. This will bring pride for the institution,” Drs. Rohman Agus Pratomo stated.

Supporting Drs. Rohman Agus Pratomo, Vice-Dean for Academic, Research, and Student Affairs FEB UNS, Prof. Izza Mafruhah, also appreciated the training. In her opening remark, Prof. Izza Mafruhah stated that UNS is committed to supporting its graduates to obtain an appropriate job. Besides, she also wants that student to apply their knowledge through entrepreneurship or further studies. “University has eight duties to achieve IKU, including graduates with an appropriate job or being entrepreneur, or continuing their study. In Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM), one of the programs is KWU to encourage students to be graduates that create jobs,” Prof. Izza Mafruhah stated. Humas UNS
