In his opening remark, the Chairman of Central Java BPS, Adhi Wiriana, stated that Statistics Corner is a breakthrough from BPS to increase services for the community. The Statistics Corner in FMIPA UNS is the first in Central Java. “Because we have mapped that 58% of statistics data users in Central Java are students and university academic members. From four public universities in Central Java, Undip, Unsoed, Unnes, and UNS, the Statistics Center in FMIPA UNS is the first,” Adhi explained.

At the national level, the Director of Statistics Dissemination, Dr. Pudji Ismartini, added that to this day, there are seven Statistics Corners. “Next year, we targeted that each province has at least one Statistics Corner. And to this day, the response from the university is very positive because the need for data in university is particularly high. Hopefully, this Statistics Corner could bring BPS closer to students and academia as the biggest segment for BPS data users,” Dr. Pudji stated.

She added that the Statistics Corner is a collaborative service provided by BPS as its public services, and considering the newness of the initiative, the board will review its implementation. The Statistics Corner also supports the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program because visitors could conduct statistic consultation, statistic education, and thematic and scheduled services. “The schedule could be accessed in pojokstatistik.bps.go.id and this Statistics Center is also equipped with statistical data in the form of infographic and videography,” Dr. Pudji stated.

The Dean of FMIPA UNS, Harjana, Ph.D., shared his delight to be a part of BPS Statistics Corner as a form of collaboration between Central Java BPS and UNS, especially FMIPA with its Statistics Program. “We are delighted to be the center of statistics learning in Solo especially, and in Central Java in general. We thank Central Java BPS for their active roles in developing Statistics Corner in FMIPA UNS,” Harjana stated.

The Statistics Corner is located in Building B FMIPA UNS to facilitate access for all UNS academic members. The facility is expected to provide public services for all academic members in printed and digital data, build statistical literacy, and support the implementation of MBKM. Harjana also hoped that the facility could benefit all academic members and adjust to the needs of visitors. “Statistics Corner FMIPA UNS is equipped with comfortable reading room, Wi-Fi access, literature collections, and an officer to serve visitors,” Harjana added.

The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, represented by Director of Academic Reputation and Student Affairs UNS, Dr. Sutanto, greatly appreciated the inauguration. Dr. Sutanto stated that the Rector greatly appreciated the facility that brought statistics closer to the community. The launching ceremony also includes a General Lecture from Dr. Pudji Ismartini on Strengthening Statistics to Accelerate Central Java recovery and the inauguration of Statistics Agent UNS to be motor for statistics data dissemination in UNS and Solo community. Their work on “The Exploration of Bio-active Compound as Inhibitor Spike Glycoprotein SARS-CoV-2 In Silico for Antiviral Drug Candidate” was inspired by the increasing number of Covid-19 cases and the lack of specific drugs for treating the illness in the community. Although vaccines are available for the mass, people infected by the new strain of Corona Virus could not get vaccinated and demand a discovery on specific drugs to treat the symptoms.

To uns.ac.id, Adhie explained that the rich bioactive compounds in Red Algae, the availability of Red Algae in the environment, and the simple cultivation method of Rhodophyta are the factors that capture their interest in studying the organism. Their study was performed in silico method as the most appropriate method for the current condition.

“One of the methods we performed was in silico; the research was conducted outside the laboratory. This method is appropriate for research in the pandemic when the access to labs is limited,” Adie explained on Saturday (18/12/2021).

Their success in the competition was welcomed with delight. Adhie and Annisa admitted that they were surprised to win the competition considering this is their first KTI competition at the national level. They went through each stage of the competition with their maximum efforts and full discussion and consultation with their supervisor. In the grand final round, they competed with nine team from various universities such as Universitas Diponegoro (Undip), Universitas Pertamina, Universitas Airlangga, to Institut Teknologi Bandung.

“Hopefully, our study could contribute to finding and developing candidates for sars-cov-2 antiviral drugs based on local wisdom,” Adhie hoped.

This achievement encourages them to obtain another achievement in the next opportunity. They want to continue making UNS proud and motivate other students to continue to be productive amid the pandemic. Adhie also reminded his fellow students to never be tired of trying because efforts will not betray the results.

Marsco 2021 is a scientific writing competition held by Student Association in Marine Studies Undip. The theme for this national competition was “Optimizing and Innovating Marine Resources based on Science and Technology in Achieving Nation’s Welfare.” The competition facilitates students to develop and hone their creativity, critical thinking, and innovation. The PHP2D Himatika FMIPA UNS Team Leader, Bayu Purboutomo, explained that the mushroom potential in Jatirejo Village is overabundant, but the majority of farmers sell their mushroom directly, while they could process the mushroom into various food products.

“Moreover, in the pandemic situation, many mushroom products cannot be stored for a long time without pre-processed,” Bayu Purboutomo explained to uns.ac.id team on Wednesday (24/11/2021).

Considering the large post-harvest potential of the mushroom, the Team proposed an upstream to downstream program for mushroom production that consists of pre-processing of mushrooms into processed products to product marketing training. The Team also developed the baglog wastes into organic fertilizer. Some of the already implemented programs are mushroom processing into crispy mushrooms in Mungon-Mojodipo Hamlet, Jatirejo Village. This program was proposed to PHP2D 2021 and was started with socialization on working capital lending from PT. BKK Jawa Tengah branch Karanganyar.

The mushroom processing process could increase local people’s income, while the socialization aims to explain various services provided by PT. BKK Jawa Tengah that support local people’s innovation in the mushroom processing industry. PHP2D Himatika FMIPA UNS Team also conducted the fertilizer production training from baglog in an online program through the Zoom Meeting platform in the same hamlet. Both processing and fertilizer production training was attended by the mushroom farmers group and program implementing team.

The fertilizer production training was opened with an explanation on mushroom cultivation dan organic fertilizer production by the Agricultural and Fishery Office of Karanganyar District represented by Feriana Dwi Kurniawati, S.P., M.Si. In this socialization, the office shared that Karanganyar District has a program to assist and facility for farmers through her office. The training also educates the local people on the environmental impact of mushroom cultivation and empower them to produce fertilizer from baglog.

After the training programs that took around five months, the Team launched Jare Jamur product on Sunday (21/11/2021) in Jatirejo Village Hall under the theme of “Kula Nuwun Jatirejo: Launching Produk Jare Jamur” (Excuse Me Jatirejo: Launching of Jare Jamur Product). The grand closing event started with product introduction followed by handover from the Head of Mathematics Program to the Chief of Processing and fertilizer team of Jatirejo people. Olivia – her nickname – is a representative from Jebres Subdistrict. In her 20 years of age, she collected her courage to participate in the competition, an event she has longed for a long time. To the board of juries, the fifth-semester student shared her wish to encourage the young generation to preserve the Javanese culture.

“I want to have a real contribution to the development of arts, culture, and tourism in Solo,” she said.

In an interview with the uns.ac.id team, Olivia said that her willingness was inspired by the Solo slogan, Solo the Spirit of Java. She thinks the slogan means that Solo is the center for Javanese tourism, and awareness to preserve the nation’s wealth is vital.

“If we, who live in Solo, do not understand Javanese culture, how it develops, how it survives amid the changing times,” Olivia stated.

In achieving the title, Olivia needed to compete with 114 other participants in Putra and Putri categories. She won over 90 participants through written tests and interviews that consisted of public speaking tests and interests and talents. In the final round, the finalists were required to participate in the briefing before participating in the Grand Final that was attended by the Mayor of Surakarta, Gibran Rakabuming.

During the briefing, Olivia was highly interested in the series of training. She felt lucky to have the opportunity to learn Javanese culture in-depth, leaving a deep impression for her, especially when she learned about Javanese culture she did not know before. “About tourism as well. So, it is easier to learn,” she shared.

As a prize for believing in God’s help, Olivia was elected as Putri Solo 2021 and received rewards directly from Gibran and his wife, Selvi Ananda Putri. Olivia said that she was surprised with the result and that she was despondent in the mid of the briefing and wanted to drop out of the program. “Thank God, (I) had the strength and got elected as Putri Solo 2021,” she added. Olivia stated that she is ready to make a real contribution in introducing Solo culture and tourism and hoped that her involvement could encourage the youth to learn and care for their culture because the young generation is the spearhead for cultural conservation. “To care and have a sense of belonging towards the culture in Solo, especially Javanese culture, because if not us, who else will (conserve the culture)?”

Olivia also wants to get involved in the promotion of the tourism sector because the opportunity is something she must be thankful for, and that she needs to work harder in solving challenges she has in the future. She also reminded that people need to work on their dream, but God will decide the results. “We do our best; the rest is God’s works,” she concluded. Humas UNS

The community service program was held with support from the Institute of Research and Community Service (LPPM) UNS. The RG was led by Prof. Suranto, M.Sc., Ph.D., and Dr. Solichatun, M.Si., Dr. Nita Etikawati, M.Si., Dr. Widya Mudyantini, M.Si., Ari Pitoyo, M.Sc., Suratman, M.Si., and Ardo Tanjung, M.Sc., as community service members.

The event was held with Farmers Group (Klomtan) Tani Mulyo Kramen members as community service partner since 2019 and aimed to provide assistance for the development of UBILAR Production House as a means for the local women to share their creativity. The production house has also explored the local potential to improve the economy of people in Kramen Hamlet, Pablengan Village. UBILAR Production House has produced various processed foods from sweet potatoes, including sweet potato flour, dodol, brownies, and various biscuits.

“One of the problems that have been identified during the pandemic is the significant decline in production due to the halt in the product promotion and marketing,” Prof. Suranto stated to uns.ac.id on Thursday (28/10/2021).

To solve this issue, PKM RG Plant Biometry planned several activities, including the assistance to apply for a Home Industry Product license (PIRT) for UBILAR sweet potato flour. The team also provided a workshop for product marketing through social media, food photography training, and website management for UBILAR production house for information sharing and product marketing media that maximizes the use of digital technology.

The food photography training and marketing workshop was held through the Zoom Cloud Meeting platform after the participants were introduced to the platform. The event involved students from Kelompok Studi Biopix that focuses on biological photography. The group shared information on the basic knowledge in photography and tips and tricks in taking the best picture in food photography. This skill will help UBILAR in creating its promotional and marketing content. To uns.ac.id, Zahra Cantiabela stated that she is happy and grateful for the achievement. She was also confused when knowing that they could win three national competitions consecutively. “Finally, we could win three national competitions and make UNS proud,” Zahra stated on Tuesday (26/10/2021).

Their accomplishments are 3^rd place at Statistic Explore 2021 infographic competition held by Student Association of Statistics Program (Himasta) Universitas Syiah Kuala; 3^rd place and favorite winner at Avenger Up 2021 infographic competition held by Student Association of Electronic Engineering Program (HMTE) Universitas Pertamina; 1^st place in Infographic Caption Environmental Competition (Infection) held by Student Association of Environmental Science UNS.

Through their works, the girls offered various solutions. Their “Energy Conservation Is Not A Trend, But A Necessity” submitted to Avenger Up 2021 discussed the alternative energy in which Zahra and Ruth shared their ideas of energy conservation through the use of organic wastes through co-firing technique as an alternative solution for the depleting coal reserves.

In Statistic Explore 2021, they submitted “Indonesia SMART – Strategi Masyarakat & Pemerintah Road to the Internet of Things (Community and Government Strategy Road to Internet of Things)” infographic that shares the tips to develop Indonesia, in which they offered a solution of city planning towards smart province using the Internet of Things (IoT).

They also created an infographic on how to maintain water clean amid the pandemic that they submitted to E-ction 2021. This infographic supports the effort to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for clean water and sanitation.

“We always (have) discussions. (We) also helped each other in searching for materials. Helping each other in designs, and revising together as well,” Ruth Andini stated.

By participating in the infographic competition Zahra and Ruth tried to maximize their potential in data processing and design. They learned to observe the current issues and creatively presented them in the form of an exciting infographic. Infographic is also closely related to their major of study, statistics.

Their three achievements were accomplished at the end of September 2021 and were inseparable from the role of Irwan Susanto, S.Si, DEA., and Dr. Winita Sulandari, S.Si., Msi., as their supervisors in the competitions. Humas UNS

As a token of declaration as integrity zone, the Dean of FMIPA UNS, Drs. Harjana, M.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., handed a signed pact of integrity to the Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho. The integrity pact will be published to the public and, therefore, enable people to monitor and control the implementation of this program because zone integrity will only be achieved with the full supports from all the stakeholders.

Accompanying the transfer of token of declaration, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, also declared the promotion for FMIPA UNS as an integrity zone towards the corruption-free area and clean bureaucracy zone.

“With this, I declared FMIPA UNS and UNS integrity zone towards the WBK/WBBM,” Prof. Jamal stated.

In his remark, Prof. Jamal added that the planning for the integrity zone in FMIPA is a part of the acceleration in UNS bureaucratic reform. The declaration is also an initial step to implement a good, effective, and efficient work management system to provide quick, precise, and professional according to the good governance principles.

The introduction of the integrity zone is a follow-up of Presidential Instruction Number 2 of 2014 regarding Corruption Prevention and Eradication and PANRB Minister Decree Number 53 of 2014.

The designation of FMIPA UNS as the example of integrity zone in UNS was welcomed by the Dean of FMIPA, Drs. Harjana, M.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D. In his remark, Harjana mentioned that there are eight areas of improvement in the bureaucracy reform planned to support the implementation of the integrity zone in FMIPA. The areas of improvement are organization, public services, governance, legal regulations, apparatus’ mentality, accountability, human resources, and supervision. The reform in the eight areas is expected to improve public services in academic and accountability of activities to achieve clean governance that is free from corruption, collusion, and nepotism at FMIPA UNS. Humas UNS
