In his opening remark, the Dean of FKIP UNS, Dr. Mardiyana, stated that from 1 April 2022, the programs in the educational field would have an independent accreditation board. Therefore, coordination is needed to reach common ground among all universities in Indonesia.

“We work together, motivate, and share the management of programs offered in each FKIP. Particularly in preparing teachers,” Dr. Mardiyana mentioned. He also underlined the diversity of Indonesia’s regions from the west to the east that is bound to have different issues. “Thus, policies that match the real condition are needed,” he added.

The Chairman of FKIP Dean Communication Forum Indonesia, Prof. Mahdum, also emphasized the need to reach a middle ground and build synergy among FKIP leaders. He also explained that the current forum has four main agendas, including the role of Lembaga Pendidikan Tenaga Kependidikan (LPTK) in building synergy to solve learning loss during the pandemic.

“Teachers must have literacy, especially in social awareness and communication. Students also need improvement in digital skill and creativity,” Prof. Mahdum stated.

The Mayor of Surakarta, Gibran Rakabuming, delivered an opening remark through a video recording and underlined the need for the teacher to utilize technology in supporting their learning process amid the Covid-19 pandemic. “Give a good example for students because we are experiencing a rapidly changing life. The industrial revolution also changes teachers’ roles and duties. I fully welcomed this forum,” Gibran stated. He also hoped that the forum could propose significant recommendations for the educational world in Indonesia.

The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, also supported the statement and mentioned that all elements of an educational institution need to be agile in facing various problems, including rapid changes. “It seems that future schools will be filled with young intellectual people who combine science and digital skills through creative and explorative learning. Therefore, we need to prepare future teachers to be the motors of those future schools by providing independence and opportunities to learn and prepare the future for their students,” Prof. Jamal mentioned.

Prof. Jamal also shared his expectation that Pendidikan Profesi Guru (PPG) (professional education for teachers) could bring new programs and innovations that are relevant to the future needs of teachers and schools. Humas UNS

Alvianita explained that she was interested in participating in the competition because of the competition theme in education, and she wanted to hone her writing skill.

“(I) wanted to participate in the competition because (I am) interested with the theme in education, and (to) hone (my) writing skill,” Alvianita said to uns.ac.id team.

The competition was held fully online, and Alvianita was required to complete administrative requirements besides her work that were submitted through the Google Form platform. In the competition, Alvianita submitted a study on distanced learning at elementary school and junior high school to offer a fun learning model and problem-based learning as solutions for the discussed issue.

“The idea was developed from a KPAI survey that indicated distanced learning issues in 54 cities in 20 provinces in Indonesia,” Alvianita explained. Her inspirations also came from her teachers in educational courses, such as Drs. Djoko Subandriyo, M.Pd., Dr. Drs. Sugiyanto, M.Si., M.Si., and Singgih Prihadi, M.Pd. Concluding the interview, Alvianita mentioned that she hoped that her ideas could benefit the community and herself if the committee published her work. Humas UNS

This competition was held to commemorate Madura Pintar Anniversary in 2021. Under the theme of “Indonesian Inspirational Volunteers”, the competition has two sub-themes, volunteers in community services and volunteers during the pandemic. Aji Santoso was selected to volunteer in the community service sub-theme and wrote a story titled ‘Relawan Sarung’ (Saroong Volunteer). His short story tells the journey of a volunteer during the eruption of Mount Merapi in Sleman, Yogyakarta, who asked for his mother’s blessing. His mother gave him a sarong which later saved him from the cruel eruption.

“The story is based on a true story, which focuses on parent’s blessings that could save someone from danger. But I modified the story,” Aji told uns.ac.id team (20/5/2021).

The fan of Joko Pinurbo said that he started to like writing since entering the university around 2019. Besides short stories, Aji also writes poetry and opinion in his free time. From his hobby, Aji won over 104 participants in the competition. Although he won the competition, he said that he would continue learning and hone his writing skill, deciding the theme and selecting diction. He also enriches his literacy knowledge by reading various short stories. Aji hopes that he could publish a collection of his short stories in a book through a major publisher in the future.
