Welcoming ASEAN Para-Games 2022, FKOR UNS Designated as Supporting Team for Athlete Coaching in Sport Science

UNS — Faculty of Sports (FKOR) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, as Indonesia’s athletes’ support team in sports science, continues its preparation for the 2022 ASEAN Para Games. Indonesia’s appointment as the event host last March encouraged the faculty to do meticulous preparation, given the approaching event date. The coaching for national athletes conducted by FKOR UNS is a request of the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) of the Republic of Indonesia, which focuses on improving Indonesia’s representative athletes’ performance on the international scene. The athletes will not only be prepared for the 2022 ASEAN Para Games but also for other international competitions.

When contacted by uns.ac.id, the Dean of FKOR UNS, Dr. Sapta Kunta Purnama, M.Pd., conveyed that the role of FKOR UNS as an athletes’ support team in sports science will be adjusted to the existing scientific development. This development includes methods, facilities, and athletes’ performance improvement. “FKOR is a center for sports science, a field of science that we must implement. This implementation aims to improve the Indonesian athletes’ performance,” said Dr. Sapta Kunta, Friday (27/5/2022).

The role taken by FKOR UNS involves many parties, including academic members with sports sciences expertise, that are involved in supporting and improving athletes’ performance. In addition, FKOR UNS also coordinates with the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora), the Indonesian National Sports Committee (Koni) Surakarta, the Indonesian National Paralympic Committee (NPC), the Surakarta Youth and Sports Office (Dispora), the Central Java Dispora, and many others.

The FKOR UNS contribution to the improvement of the national athletes’ performance is expected to bring favorable outcomes following the targets that have been set. At the upcoming 2022 ASEAN Para Games, Indonesia had set a target to be the overall winner in the championship. Dr. Sapta Kunta also prayed for this target to be accomplished.

The 2022 ASEAN Para Games will be hosted in Central Java with 14 Fields of Sports. UNS is applying to be a venue provider for three Fields of Sports, namely Boccia, Cerebral Palsy (CP) Football, and Goalball. The plan designated UNS Sports Center as the Goalball venue, FKOR UNS Sports Center as Boccia’s venue, and UNS Stadium as the CP football venue. According to Dr. Sapta Kunta, the venue application submission is underway.

“The three venues are proposed to be the official venue for the Boccia, CP Football, and Goalball. The application has been submitted. We are waiting for the Presidential Decree,” he said. Humas UNS

FKOR UNS Held General Lecture in Sports

UNS — The Faculty of Sports (FKOR) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a general lecture in sports through offline and online platforms, broadcasted from UNS Rectorate Building on Monday (22/11/2021). The general lecture that invited the Dean of FKOR UNS and the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) was held in collaboration with Bank Central Asia (BCA).

The general lecture was also attended by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, who also delivered an opening remark in the general lecture. Prof. Jamal stated that in the national anthem, there is a phrase (bangunlah jiwanya bangunlah badannya) that indicates that a strong and reliable nation should have the strength in souls, body, and religiosity that are equal.

“This is the strategic role of sports in building the quality, excellent and whole, human resources. Sports have a strategic contribution in creating healthy Indonesia with a strong character, and excelled at the global level in line with the grand vision of national sports,” Prof. Jamal mentioned in this remark.

The Operational Chief of BCA Branch Solo, Agustin, shared their pride in getting involved in the general lecture. Agustin hoped that this kind of event could create a positive sports climate that was stopped because of the pandemic. Unfortunately, the Menpora, Dr. Zainudin Amali, could not attend the event.

In his discussion, Dr. Sapta Kunta shared that in maintaining the immune system, a person needs to prepare a program that correlates with aerobic activities with a pulse as its main indicator.

“Aerobic capacity is correlated with a pulse. If, before training, someone needs to measure their aerobic capacity, it will be complicated. That is why researches on the correlation between aerobic capacity and pulse need to be studied. The pulse is detected from the maximum aerobic capacity,” he explained.

Dr. Sapta Kunta also added that the suggested aerobic training frequency is between three and five days a week, including walking, light cycling, slow dancing, jogging, running, spinning, high impact gymnastic, swimming, basketball, tennis, football, hiking, and other sports.

“For first-timers, continuous activities for 10 minutes. Gradually to 30 minutes of aerobic exercise/day, total, target 60–150 minutes/week. Then continue up to 30-60 minutes/day, a total of 150-200 minutes/week. For intermediate, moderate activity can be 30-90 minutes/day, total 200-300 minutes/week,” he added. Humas UNS

Male Penkepor ’17 Team and Female FKOR Team Won the UNS Volleyball Championship

UNS — The male team from the Sports Coaching Education Program (Penkepor) year of 2017 and the female team from the Faculty of Sport (FKOR) succeeded in winning the Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta Volleyball Championship toward the 2021 National Competition, Friday (28/5/2021). In the competition that takes place in the GOR UNS, the Penkepor ’17 team showed their excellence over the Physical Education, Health, and Recreation (Penjaskesrek) team with a final score of 3-0. Notably, the team won the three matches straight with 18-25, 18-25, and 22-25.

On the other hand, the winning female team must compete against a team from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) but finally won with a final score of 3-0 with detail scoring of 25-17, 25-14, and 25-16. For these achievements, the Supervisor of the UNS Volleyball Team, Dr. Deddy Whinata Kardiyanto, praised the organizing committee and athletes who have complied with the Health Protocol (Prokes) during the competition

“This championship is the first sports championship in UNS during the pandemic. Thank you for complying with the health protocol and contributes to the prevention of Covid-19 spreads,” said Dr. Deddy Whinata Kardiyanto. Specifically, he hopes that UNS volleyball athletes will keep improving their competency. Therefore, increasing the team’s chances to win the national competitions.

On this occasion, the Head of Student Activity Unit (UKM) Volleyball, Sigit Nugroho, in his remarks during the awarding ceremony, appreciates the Penkepor ’17 team and FKOR team for winning the championship. He also thanked all teams that are participating in the championship. “Congratulations to all the winners. I hope all of you can be better athletes to represent UNS in the national and international competitions. Meanwhile, to all participants who do not win, do not feel sad; there are many other competitions available for you to join,” said Sigit Nugroho

Additionally, the Chief of Academic Bureau and Student Affairs, Drs. Rohman Agus Pratomo also appreciates all UNS volleyball athletes who were competitively competing in the championship. Further, he praised the ability of volleyball athletes at UNS, which he considered has distributed evenly. For him, this can inspire other students to develop their talents in volleyball

For the achievements of both teams as the winner of the UNS Volleyball championship, they will receive Rp 1.500.000. While for the runner-up team will receive Rp 1.250.000 in reward. Following this achievement, the Penjaskesrek ’18 team succeeded in winning over the Penjaskesrek ’17 C for the male numbers. On the female number, the Penjaskesrek ’17 team succeeded in winning over the FEB UNS team with a final score of 3-1. Humas UNS
