Wisdom from Ramadan: Values for the Future

“The holy month of Ramadan teaches us patience, sincerity, and empathy. These values must guide you as you enter the workforce and society. I hope UNS alumni will not only excel academically but also demonstrate strong ethics and integrity,” Prof. Hartono stated.

He also reminded graduates of their role as agents of change. “The world presents complex challenges. You must continuously develop and apply the knowledge you have gained for the nation’s progress. Be innovators, lifelong learners, and contributors to positive change,” he added.

In addition to his message on ethics and integrity, Prof. Hartono emphasized the importance of adaptability in an ever-evolving world. “The rapid advancements in technology and globalization require us to remain open-minded and proactive. Embrace challenges as opportunities to grow and innovate,” he advised.

Recognizing Academic Excellence

Prof. Hartono congratulated all graduates and acknowledged their hard work. “This achievement is not just your own but also the result of your families’, lecturers’, and supporters’ dedication. Keep striving, and make your alma mater and nation proud,” he said.

A total of 388 graduates received degrees, including 102 who graduated with cum laude honors. The ceremony also welcomed five international graduates from Libya and Timor-Leste.

A Call to Make an Impact

Representing the graduates, Dr. Didik Prasetyanto (Doctoral Program in Economics) encouraged fellow alumni to be a force for good. “Let us commit to serving others and making a positive impact on our communities,” he urged.

Ir. Gunawan Sulistyo, M.M., CWM., handed over alumni cards symbolically during the ceremony. He serves as the Vice Chairman of the Central Board of the UNS Alumni Association (IKA UNS) and Director of PT. Pegadaian.

As part of the event, UNS also reaffirmed its commitment to fostering lifelong connections with its alumni. The university aims to support graduates through networking opportunities, professional development programs, and community engagement initiatives.

The graduation ceremony ended with a sense of pride and optimism. Graduates stepped into a new chapter of their lives. They were ready to contribute to society and uphold the values they learned at UNS.

Out of the 703 graduates, 209 achieved the distinction of cum laude or honors. A poignant moment marked the ceremony as the late Aan Dwiky Handoyo, S.Pt., was honored. Prof. Hartono personally handed over Aan’s bachelor’s degree certificate to his family, as the auditorium witnessed the emotional moment.

“We deeply mourn the loss of one of our graduates, Aan Dwiky Handoyo, from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry. May he rest in peace and find the best place in His presence. To his family, who are here to receive his bachelor’s degree certificate, we extend our heartfelt condolences and utmost respect,” Prof. Hartono said.

The graduation ceremony also recognized graduates with exceptional achievements. Dr. Mujtaba Jamal, a graduate of the Linguistics Doctoral Program, was acknowledged as the fastest doctoral graduate, completing his studies in just 2 years and 3 months. Meanwhile, the youngest doctoral graduate was Dr. Sujiyani Kassiavera from the Science Education Program, graduating at the age of 32 years and 6 months.

For the master’s program, Qori Nur Fauziah from the Agronomy Program was recognized as the fastest graduate, completing her studies in 1 year and 4 months. The youngest master’s graduate was Nur Azizah Fitrianti from the Communication Science Program, earning her degree at the age of 24 years and 1 month.

In the undergraduate program, the fastest graduate was Keesa Ananda from the Animal Husbandry Program, who completed her studies in 3 years and 2 months. The youngest undergraduate graduate was Roisdha Ika Syaharani from the Food Technology Program, graduating at 20 years and 9 months old.

Among diploma graduates, the fastest Diploma IV graduate was Ridwan Efendi from the Demography and Civil Registration Program, completing his studies in 3 years and 11 months. The youngest Diploma IV graduate was Okta Fajriani Faliha from the Applied Midwifery Program, earning her degree at 22 years and 3 months.

For the Diploma III program, the fastest graduate was Leonardus Ratsangka Cahya Winnardi from the Civil Engineering Program, completing his studies in 2 years and 10 months. The youngest graduate in the Diploma III program was Ghania Najwa Zea Fariha Raya from the English Program, graduating at the age of 20 years and 9 months. The ceremony also celebrated the achievements of five international graduates from Timor-Leste, Egypt, and Afghanistan, further highlighting the diverse academic community at UNS.

Rosalina discussed the gaps between work and business fields and shared tips on preparing appropriate Curriculum Vitae (CV). She stated that a good CV is not too long but concise and informative. She also reminded students to make sure that they wrote real data in their CVs. “Especially in terms of competencies, skills, and experiences,” Rosalina stated. She added that job hunting is like a war that students need to prepare everything well to win the fights. These preparations include material preparation, selecting where to compete, and competing well until securing the dream job.

The second speaker, Catur Sugiyarto, Ph.D., a faculty member, entrepreneur, and the Chief of Start-Up and Incubation Division UNS, shared tips to be successful in the business world. He stated that to create a successful business, an entrepreneur needs to maintain and focus on their business, as well as be consistent in implementing their business plan. Catur added that currently, UNS has Sebelas Maret Startup Academy (SEMESTA), or a series of downstream ecosystem development and entrepreneurship.

“Semesta program starts with the pre-incubation stage through the development of start-up ecosystem and implementation of a grant scheme for innovative product development that matches for students who are starting and developing their business,” Catur explained.

The last speaker, Moh Abdul Hakim, Ph.D., shared the details of the Scholastic Potential Test (TPS) or psychological test. Abdul Hakim explained that this test is a collection of behavioral samples that are expected to reflect the certain quality of an individual. The psychological tests have several types, including ability and personality tests.

“Ability test is used to assess skills, including agility, accuracy, or both. While personality test is used to assess typical behavior, character, temperament, and disposition,” he explained.

The Dean of FMIPA, Drs. Harjana, Ph.D., in his opening remark, hoped that this event could equip the graduates to be ready to enter the workplace.
