The Chairman of HMP Wibawa FKIP UNS, Muhammad Iqbal Ramadhan, explained that the event was held on the campus to ease the coordination, especially regarding the implementation of health protocols by the managing committee. This year due to the pandemic, Gelar Seni was also conducted under virtual exhibition through their YouTube channel. “The managing committee was required to apply health protocols,” Iqbal explained.

The event provided a performance of Ketoprak Mataraman “Kabentus Drenging Driya,” telling the tactic of Mataram King, Panembahan Senopati, in conquering Ki Ageng Mangir Wanabaya. The story starts from Panembahan Senopati’s request to her daughter, Rara Kinasih, to conquer Ki Ageng Mangir. After the marriage, Rara Kinasih asked Ki Ageng Mangir to accompany her home to Mataram. Ki Ageng Mangir, who was deceived by his wife, decided to follow her and wanted to kill Panembahan Senopati, but was later subdued by Panembahan Senopati in Watugilang.

Iqbal also stated that he hoped the event could represent his program’s efforts in preserving the Javanese culture developing students’ resources in arts. “I also hope that the community understands that there are young people who still love their culture; thus, Javanese culture needs to be preserved for the future generations,” he concluded.
