The Chief of Managing Committee, Dr. Agung Wibowo, S.P., M.Si., stated that this seminar is important to provide a general description for the community, especially agricultural activistss, on the future of agricultural strategy. The seminar is also expected to bring new strategies in the agricultural sector after the Covid-19 pandemic.

“History has proved that the agricultural sector has a rich contribution and become the savior of the state economy. The government’s role as a policymaker is vital in advancing agricultural development,” Dr. Agung stated.

The national seminar was attended by the Coordinating Minister for Economy Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Airlangga Hartarto, and the Minister for Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, Syahrul Yasin Limpo. As a keynote speaker, Airlangga Hartarto explained that the agricultural sector was resilient in facing the Covid-19 pandemic, marked by Indonesia’s 107.18 Agricultural Exchange (Nilai Tukar Pertanian-NTP) in November 2021, 3% food inflation, and a 4.3% increase in agricultural sector export from January to November 2021.

“Agricultural sector always becomes a sector that could survive as the economic pillar in various crises in 1998, 2008, and today’s Covid-19 crisis,” he stated.

The government targeted 3.6% to 4% agricultural sector growth in 2022 through various strategic programs in the food and agribusiness sectors. These programs include stabilizing the price and supply of foods, developing horticulture region for export, developing closed-loop horticulture partnership, revitalizing local people palm oil plantation, developing integrated farming system, developing seaweed industry, achieving labor-intensive agriculture and fishery, improving subsidized fertilizer through a membership card, controlling land usage switch, and developing farmer-fishermen corporation.

These programs will be aligned with agricultural development strategies that support food resilience and improve sustainably competitiveness implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture. The Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo, explained that the five-development strategy consists of increasing production capacity, diversifying local food sources, strengthening food reserves and logistics systems, developing modern farming, and three times exports movement.

Government and University Collaboration

Syahrul Yasin Limpo added that collaboration between the government and the university is vital in succeeding in the explained strategies. Academic views are needed as a suggestion for agricultural development in the future. “This needs collective efforts,” he stated.

The third speaker, Prof. Dr. Ir. Bustanul Arifin, M.Sc. from the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (INDEF), highlighted the challenges faced by Indonesia, including climate change and agricultural disparity. He also hoped that the university could assist the government in solving the challenges through various means, such as modern agricultural technology.

“The point for university is the possibility of technology that could adapt the weather or other technology to adapt the disparity because there is a wide disparity in Indonesia, this kind of technology will be invaluable for the agricultural sector,” he added.

The National Seminar was concluded with the launching of Kisah Inspiratif 50 Alumni Fakultas Pertanian UNS (Inspirative Stories of 50 Faculty of Agriculture UNS Alumni). Humas UNS

After the opening remark from the President, Nadiem Makarim discussed several topics in the meeting that was also attended by the Chairman of CRISU and the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, Plt. Dirjen Diktiristek Prof. Nizam, and the Major of Surakarta, Gibran Rakabuming Raka. “I want to hear the opinions from the Rectors,” Nadiem Makarim stated to the rectors who joined the meeting offline and online.

The first topic discussed in the meeting as the implementation of face-to-face learning (PTM). The Minister emphasized that regions with PPKM levels 1, 2, and 3, could implement PTM with a maximum quota of a classroom for only 25 students. He also reminded that the university needs to ensure that students will not create a crowd after PTM to prevent the spread of Covid-19. “This is almost similar to SKB 4 ministers that are specific for university,” Nadiem Makarim explained.

To the Rectors, he also stated that Kemdikbudristek would provide full support for universities in regions that meet the requirement to implement PTM because he does not want the interaction between students and teachers to vanish.

“All students can join zoom and get quota and tuition fee assistance. But the essence of university interaction vanished during the implementation of distanced learning. And I hope we can return it so that it will not completely vanish; that’s what I am worried of,” he said.

Besides PTM, Nadiem Makarim also asked for Rectors’ opinion on the implementation of Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program that he launched on January 2020. “I want honest views on MBKM, what are the challenges, and how to implement it in each semester. There are people who are confused; the program is different from the MBKM. (I am) sure the Rectors fully understand because (you) often communicate with the Head of Program,” Nadiem Makarim stated. This success is inseparable from the role of Dr. Sapta Kunta Purnama, M.Pd., who currently serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Sports (FKOR) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta. Dr. Sapta Kunta Purnama, M.Pd., was trusted as trainer and manager of Indonesian para-badminton teams in the Tokyo Paralympic 2020. In the final round for the women-doubles and mixed-doubles championship, Dr. Sapta Kunta was observed to accompanied his trainees from the side of the field and giving them spirit when achieving the highest podium in the event held in Tokyo, Japan.

When contacted by the uns.ac.id team, Dr. Sapta Kunta stated that he was delighted with his trainee’s achievement. The Sports Coaching Education Program faculty member shared that the result matched their gold medals target from Indonesian National Paralympic Committee (NPC).

“Alhamdulillah Indonesian euphoria is very high. Hopefully, these medals give joy to Indonesian people who are saddened by the Covid-19 pandemic. Even though only for a while, these two- or three-days euphoria could at least ease people’s sadness,” the NPC Indonesia trainer said.

The 53 years old Dean stated that this success results from a long preparation from the athletes. Based on his information, the athletes have trained since 2019 to participate in the canceled ASEAN Paragames 2019 in the Philippines. They then participated in the centralized training from October 2020 in Solo Baru. Their training is not all smooth because the Restriction on Community Activities Implementation (PPKM) in Solo disturbed their training. At the time, Dr. Sapta Kunta had the initiative to ask for a permit from the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, to use the FKOR UNS Sports Center that was just completed as a training site for athlete’s training. Prof. Jamal granted the permit and fully supported the training for the athletes.

“Alhamdulillah the Rector allowed. At last, we could train in FKOR UNS Sports Center. The Rector cares about the athletes. And every day since in Machida to Tokyo, he always calls me to ask the development here (Tokyo),” the Boyolali born faculty member stated.

This achievement is the result of hard works from athletes, trainers, and officials. Dr. Sapta Kunta also hopes that this achievement could open a way for people with disabilities to gain equal rights and opportunities. The international event is expected to prove that people with disabilities also have means of sports that they could compete in to bring pride to Indonesia.

Dr. Sapta Kunta and para-badminton team returned to Indonesia on Monday (6/9/2021). After arriving in Jakarta, the Team went through self-quarantine for eight days and was scheduled to meet President Joko Widodo in Istana Negara.

“We received a call from Pak Jokowi. When we go home to Indonesia, we are asked to meet him in Istana, but we need to self-quarantine first for eight days,” he added.

Congratulation to the Indonesia Paralympic athletes. Hopefully, the spirit of sports will continue to spark, and the outstanding tradition will be sustainable. Humas UNS

The launching ceremony was attended by the Director of Academic Reputation and Student Affairs UNS Dr. Sutanto, Generasi Indonesia School Headmaster Rizaldy, and a representative from RT 03/ RW 36 Mipitan Hamlet community. Before leading the opening ceremony, Dr. Sutanto mentioned in his opening remark that his presence in the hamlet aims to establish friendship and to open the new school.

“I am here to establish friendship and introduce myself. Thus, the first aim is to silaturahmi. We want to get to know each other, to be closer, and together with Mas Shoffan and the headmaster wants to establish a school,” he stated.

In this occasion, the Director of Academic Reputation and Student Affairs UNS also had an important message that teaching children is parents’ responsibility. Therefore, it is unfitting when parents depend on the school to educate their children. This statement is quoted from the National Education Pioneer, Ki Hadjar Dewantara, that “Everyone becomes a teacher, every house is a school. Education does not stop in the school building, but also at home, in the street, and everywhere.”

“If Ki Hadjar Dewantara Menteri, the first Ministry of Education stated that home is a school. What is wrong now is that home is home, children are entrusted to the school, like deposit counter, on the evening you could take it back,” Dr. Sutanto said. Therefore, he reminded the guests that home is the first school for a child and everyone a child meets at home is their teacher. Thus, parents need to provide positive examples for their children at home.

“Hopefully, we could add the roles (as a teacher) at home in school. Thus, if you wake up late, then your children will copy it. If your daily attitude is pleasant and discipline, it will be copied. And I am sure 70% of education is from home, and the rest is from school,” he added.

The founder of bersamabisa.id community, Shoffan Mujahid, in his opening remark, stated that his and other UNS students come to participate in building characters and educate  Mipitan Hamlet children. He wants the children to have a bright future and could reach their dreams. “The more important thing that we bring into this program is that we hope there will be new Bung Hatta, Bung Karno, H.O.S Tjokroaminoto, and Habibie,” he said.

Shoffan Mujahid emphasized that Generasi Indonesia School in RT 03/ RW 36 Mipitan Hamlet is not merely to meet the semester credit requirement but because of the heart calls as university students to maintain the independence. “We have a long-term objective. If other university students only want to meet credits requirements, we are naturally want to maintain Indonesia’s independence. Millennials often forget how to maintain Indonesia’s independence,”  Shoffan Mujahid stated.

The school was opened symbolically by a ribbon cutting ceremony by the Chief of RT 03/ RW 36 Mipitan Hamlet, accompanied by Dr. Sutanto and Shoffan Mujahid. Humas UNS

The phenomenon of Arabic Language use in Indonesia was discussed in detail by Reza Sukma Nugraha, S.Hum., M.Hum, a faculty member of Arabic Language and Literature Program Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta on Saturday (31/07/2021) in Student Studies (KRAMA) X BASMA. The event was held online through the Google Meet application and attended by UNS and other university students.

The Arabic language is used both verbally and in written form in Indonesia. Melayu people use the Arabic alphabet or Jawi to write their Malay language, which is used primarily in Riau Archipelago, Bangka Belitung, and Bengkulu. This language developed prominently since the Islamic Kingdom started to move the authority of Hindu and Buddha kingdoms in Indonesia. Ulema or Islamic scholars played a vital role in Arabic language development in Indonesia.

“They started to socialize how the Arabic language is closely related to Islam. For example, in using the terms and Arabic names during their da’wah,” Reza explained.

Reza Sukma also stated that the Arabic language influence on the Indonesian language is getting more significant after the reformation. This influence can be observed from the number of words absorbed into Indonesian diction in the Arabic language. Around 2,000 words from 127,000 dictions in Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia (KBBI) are words absorbed from the Arabic language: masjid, mushola, dewan, and rakyat.

The numbers of absorbed words also affect phonematic adjustment in the Indonesian language. To this day, the Arabic language is used as a language system, the use of expressions in the form of phrases and sentences, the use of Arabic terms, and the naming of people in Indonesia. In his material titled writing (creative) in today’s world, Han Gagas mentioned that everyone has a different objective in writing, from hobby, profession, existence, or even creative charity. “All of it is okay, as long as the writer happy. The bonuses of writing are generating income, have readers or fans, flexible working hours, awards, their work adapted to a movie, and can travel around Indonesia and even the world,” he explained.

He also shared the key or creative tips in the literature world, such as improving writing skills and reading patiently as research in writing. A writing idea must be original, not widely written, and has a strong premise. Writers should also adapt to the writing media, either printed, online, or conventional. Finally, they should follow the update on the recent technology.

“Then master the writing technique. They can hone it by writing diligently. They (writers) could make marketing breakthroughs as well,” Han Gagas explained.

He added that writer should open their writing with unusual style and serve exciting plots to keep readers reading. If they want to send their work to external media, writers should understand the character of each media and understand the style and taste of each editor. Han Gagas suggested early writers befriend fully-fledged writers to improve their knowledge of the writing world.

“Writing could make us eternal. Many works from deceased writers are still being read by people today. Write to entertain yourself and make it a habit without burdened by material achievement or a certain target. If your work becomes a bestseller, adapted to film, and goes around the world, that is a bonus from God,” he concluded. Humas UNS
