UNS — Excellent achievement at the national level was accomplished by students from the Faculty of Engineering (FT) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, following their victory as the Best Speaker in a national essay competition. The three students are Putri Dwi Larasati, Satrio Fachri Chaniago, and Febriyanti Valentina Sitanggang, who currently are in their fourth semester. The competition was organized by the Islamic Economy Study Group (KSEI) in the Islamic Economy and Business Study Program (Jebis) Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Madura in June 2021.

When interviewed on Sunday (4/7/2021), Satrio Fachri Chaniago admits that in this competition, they take on a tourism theme. The vast number of local tourism sectors in Indonesia can be useful to support the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030. Hence, extensive care and promotion both from the government and the general public are needed.

“We discuss the idea of local tourism using a short video to trigger film tourism phenomena. Therefore, after watching the short movie, video, or other media, the public will be interested to visit the location,” he revealed.

Before selected for the presentation stage, the team must first go on the initial selection to determine the top 10 finalists. The finalists, then, must present their idea in front of the judges to choose the best three teams with the highest score.

“The three teams are given a study case to determine the First Place winner, Runner-up 1 and 2. Meanwhile, the other seven teams are joining a Forum Group Discussion (FGD) to compete for the Best Speaker title,” Satrio explained.

The team reveals that they are happy and thankful for the opportunity to compete in the national essay competition. Even more, than they can bring home the Best Speaker title.

“We feel grateful for this opportunity, which allows us to travel to Madura for the final stage, thus expanding our network and experience. Hopefully, we can compete in other challenges and bring home more achievements. To our fellow students, you can join any competition to improve your experiences,” Satrio concluded. Humas UNS

UNS — The student association for Industrial Engineering Program (HMTI) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) held a guest lecture with Prof. Dr -Ing. Hendro Wicaksono, a Professor of Industrial Engineering di Jacobs University, Bremen, Jerman, on Wednesday (25/5/2021).

One hundred and twenty-eight participants attended the lecture held through the Zoom Cloud Meetings and live-streamed in FT UNS Official YouTube channel. The participants are students from Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and social humanities studies.

Prof. Hendro is selected as the speaker in the guest lecture because he won the Teacher of the Year award in 2020. The award was granted to the faculty member with an excellent teaching process. Prof. Hendro is also active in building GreenIndonesia and many other startups. “(It is) a company that develops digital innovation that enables people to contribute to environmental protection,” he added. In the guest lecture, Prof. Hendro shared his experiences in Research Group INDEED (Intelligent Data Management in Industry 4.0) in 2018—2020.

The Pillars of Industry 4.0

Prof. Hendro mentioned in his material that Industrial Revolution 4.0 is widely adopted by industry but only as jargon. The implementation of such terms in the production process and product is limited. Information Technology that acts as a pillar in Industry 3.0 becomes the vital part of industry 4.0 with electronics and machinery roles equal to industry 3.0. The information technology in Industry 4.0 connects the engineering process and the society, and how to provide a business model that accepted and benefits by the community.

There are pillars of Industry 4.0 that required attention in its implementation, first, the smart product. Industry 4.0 products should exhibit their basic information, for example, products with censor; coffee maker that indicates when there is a lack of water or coffee. Second, smart process/operation. An interconnected service and automation. Third, smart resource/infrastructure that assists production as a value-added, for example, vehicles with GPS.

“In Industrial Engineering, we are familiar with Product-Process-Resource (PPR). But, in industry 4.0, we add ‘smart’ in each (component),” Prof. Hendro said.

These processes result in data flooding as each pillar of the industry generates data which becomes new values that can be commercialized. Reacting to this phenomenon, data-driven service appeared and expanded to various other fields, including health, construction, media, energy, and agriculture. Prof. Hendro provided the example of an airplane which has censor that generates data on machine condition. These data were collected to create an application with a predictive monitoring ability, maintenance, and machine optimization.

Industry 4.0 requires collaboration among many parties in many lines. In Germany, Prof. Hendro said, the process requires clear systematics, collaboration among related parties, and long-term plans. Despite the government succession, this long-term plan will still be implemented. “The ball remains,” he stated.

Dr. Eko Pujiyanto, S.Si., M.T., acted as the moderator in the guest lecture and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering UNS, Dr.techn. Ir. Sholihin As’ad, M.T., attended the event and delivered his opening remark. The Dean thanked Prof. Hendro for sharing his knowledge and experiences. The Dean also hoped that the material would inspire the participants to be brave and thrive like Prof. Hendro. Dr.techn. Ir. Sholihin As’ad, M.T., also hoped that FT could maintain collaboration with Prof. Hendro and that this collaboration will open an opportunity to be connected with other diaspora teachers. Humas UNS

By 9 September 2015, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GMF AeroAsia. The cooperation offered by AeroAsia are in forms of practical work program, internship program and research development. Through this cooperation, Industrial Engineering Department of UNS managed to send 6 students to represent their papers at International MultiConference of Engineers and Computer Scientist (IMECS) 2016 held on 16th–18th of March 2016 in Hongkong. IMECS is an annual conference which focuses on computer engineering and mechanical engineering managed by IAENG (International Association of Engineering). At this international conference which is engaged by 261 participants around the world, a paper made by Rillo Satria Wahyudin entitled “Model Optimasi Alokasi Sumber Daya Tenaga Kerja, Material, dan Peralatan di Unit Line Maintenance GMF Aeroasia” is success gaining the predicate for Best Student Paper of The 2016 IAENG International Conference on Industrial Engineering.

Industrial Engineering Department Team of UNS joined International MultiConference of Engineers and Computer Scientist (IMECS) 2016 in Hongkong.

Rillo, through his paper, creates mathematical model illustrating the allocation of human resources, materials, and equipment of in line maintenance of GMF AeroAsia. GMF AeroAsia is a subsidiary of PT. Garuda Indonesia which engages in the field of aircraft MRO (Maintenance, Repairing and Overhaul) multi–service which provides 8 types of service. The allocation of human resources in this company is based on least hiring cost principle, so the human resources choosing priority determined by the type of worker which has the least hiring cost. According to Rillo, the allocation model that he found is an initial step though it is small, yet if it continues to be developed following the further steps, is possible to be implemented.

Rillo, when he was presenting his paper at International MultiConference of Engineers and Computer Scientist (IMECS) 2016.

In line with, General Manager Strategy Management Office of GMF AeroAsia, Suryo Hardiono, said that this model would be developed continuously. “The model that we are looking for should be adjusted with the operational condition in the real field, material-based resource optimal point, movement or people power and dynamic workload. By having many human resources in Indonesia, we (GMF) need a fast and accurate model to decide the amount of resources will be allocated so that it can be optimal. We can compare, the way we depute the workers from a branch office to the others and the way we recruit the workers, which one is the cheapest and most efficient. And Rillo’s model is the best,” Suryo explained, who is also in charge to guide Rillo during his paper compilation. “This model will be developed continually, by using real and accurate data.”

The Chief of Industrial Engineering Department, Wahyudi Sutopo also delivered his response regarding to Rillo’s success on getting the best paper predicate at the international conference. According to him, this project had been planned to be cooperation between UNS and GMF AeroAsia. “This is a scheduled and well-structured project, an onward step which is not accidental. Through internship and practical work programs, UNS is able to produce various works that motivate other students to keep on working,” Wahyudi concluded. [anggra.red.uns.ac.id]
