The program was led by UNS Master’s students Julhan Irfandi, Anindhita Saviorel Rivaldy, Anggie Rahmatul Azizah, and Shafira Meidy Savitri. They collaborated with the Community Service Team from Stikes Mambaul ‘Ulum Surakarta and local leaders, including LPDP scholarship recipients from UNS, with support from the Wonorejo Village Head and local PKK (Family Welfare Empowerment) members. The event was attended by 35 adolescents aged 15 to 18.

To uns.ac.id on Tuesday (14/1/2025), Julhan Irfandi explained that the program began with measurements of participants’ height and weight to calculate their Body Mass Index (BMI). The team then conducted early screenings for non-communicable diseases by checking blood pressure, random blood sugar levels, and uric acid levels. “This screening aims to prevent and identify potential health issues in adolescents, such as hypertension, diabetes, and metabolic disorders, which are no longer limited by age,” Julhan explained.

Sharing Education on Nutrition Awareness

The team also provided nutrition education as a promotive and preventive effort using visually engaging booklets. The booklets were designed to deliver structured and systematic information, making it easier for participants to grasp the concepts of balanced nutrition and healthy body image. Combining text, images, and graphics, the booklets also served as reference material participants could revisit at home.

“The core goal of this initiative, held on November 10, 2024, was to raise adolescents’ awareness of the importance of balanced nutrition,” Julhan added.

Through this education, the team hopes to encourage healthier eating habits among adolescents. With support from various stakeholders, the program aspires to have a long-term impact on creating a healthier younger generation.

The program will expand with a workshop involving both parents and adolescents to discuss healthy eating habits and support optimal nutritional status. In addition, collaboration with local youth health posts (Posyandu Remaja) will be initiated to reach more adolescents and provide ongoing nutrition education.

The team secured funding from PF through its sociopreneur program, which aims to empower youth as social entrepreneurs. This program focuses on three key areas: education, economy, and environment. By organizing various activities and initiatives, PF seeks to inspire young people to create ventures that are financially profitable while also positively impacting society.

The socialization event served as the pilot project for Karanganyar Berdaya, implemented by UNS students in collaboration with Taruna Tani Lestari, a youth farmer association in Gentungan Village, Karanganyar. The initiative aims to raise awareness among young people about the importance and potential of the agricultural sector.

“We hope to establish a taruna tani (youth farmer group) in every village, eventually uniting them in a district-wide forum. We’ve observed that many young individuals are interested in agriculture but lack proper platforms for support and empowerment. That’s where we step in to address this gap,” explained Perdana Mangayu Bagyo, Chair of Karanganyar Berdaya.

Perdana further noted that the initiative has received support from Gentungan Village officials. Moving forward, the team plans to collaborate with various stakeholders, including the Agriculture Department, Tourism, Youth, and Sports Department, Karanganyar Regency Government, and other organizations that can contribute to agricultural development.

In an interview with uns.ac.id on Monday (25/11/2024), Perdana expressed his hope that support from Pertamina, UNS, and the government would inspire more young people to enter the agricultural field. He also envisioned this effort fostering ventures that benefit society by boosting the economy and advancing knowledge.

“We hope that with support from Pertamina, UNS, and the government, we can spark and increase youth interest in agriculture. Moreover, we aim for this initiative to generate enterprises that benefit the community, both economically and academically,” he concluded.

The efforts of Karanganyar Berdaya align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 2 on sustainable agricultural systems and Goal 17, emphasizing the importance of global partnerships. Collaboration among institutions and private sectors in research, technology development, and investment in agriculture can accelerate the achievement of food security and improve farmer welfare.

Rangga, a group member, explained that leather handicrafts are always sought by people. “Therefore, learning how to make leather handicrafts like wallets, bags, and key chains will become an opportunity to improve the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) for village Karang Taruna,” Rangga explained on Monday (14/3/2022).

The tools used in the production process consisted of synthetic leather, acrylic paint, leather glue, rubber, scissors, pencil, cutter, ruler for designing patterns, needle and polyester thread for sewing leather, hammer and fork inlay for punching holes in leather edges, beveler to outline stitch patterns, as well as sandpaper and wood slicker to smooth the leather.

The workshop aimed to invite Karang Taruna members to produce handicrafts. “Hopefully, the workshop could motivate and increase the awareness on Ngadirejo Village, Mojogedang youth’s potentials,” Rangga stated during the workshop held on Saturday (26/2/2022).

The workshop was scheduled for two days, Saturday (26/2/2022) and Sunday (27/2/2022), but due to the high enthusiasm, the training could be completed in one day. Humas UNS

He added that this KHDTK would undergo continuous preparation research site and other nature-related activities. Currently, arrangements are being made for honey cultivation and sheep rearing.

“We have established a strategic plan alongside the Rector (of UNS) to establish a wedding venue in an open area like this. The only university in Solo Raya that manages a wonderful place, like this one, is only UNS. With a suitable design, I’m sure this place will be a promising site in the future,” added Juliyatmono.

The Head of Forestry Education and Management UNS, Dwi Priyo Ariyanto, Ph.D., said his party would equip KHDTK with a number of supporting facilities.

“The plan is to build a stage, including a grassy field. Later on, many choices are available for customers to choose for their wedding ceremony, whether in an open field or a stage. Additionally, there will be outbound facilities, which are currently under construction,” said Dwi Priyo.

This activity was attended by the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Affairs UNS, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo; Vice-Rector for Management and Human Resources Affairs, Prof. Bandi; and the Head of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) UNS, Prof. Okid Parama Astirin; Karanganyar Regent, Drs. Juliyatmono, MM; and Deputy Regent of Karanganyar, Rober Christanto. Additionally, several Forest Farmers Groups (KPH) and Fire Care Community (MPA), and local community also participated in this tree planting.

In his speech, Prof. Kuncoro said that this is like the alms to the earth in the form of plants giving because, through these plants, they can preserve the earth.

“We strongly support this tree planting, to plant 700 plants. After the Ministerial Decree (SK) is officially released, we will prepare the management of KHDTK. This activity will be the foundation for the development of KHDTK. Hence, we will develop this KHDTK area to be the icon of Karanganyar’s economic driver because it has extraordinary potential,” said Prof. Kuncoro.

Meanwhile, the Regent of Karanganyar, Juliyatmono, states that the peak of the Karanganyar Ijo Royo-Royo Movement will take place on December 15. This movement marked the inauguration date of Juliyatmono and Rober as Regent and Deputy Regent of Karanganyar.

“We were inaugurated on December 15, 2018, and today we are commemorating the day by uniting the community with nature through planting trees. Hopefully, our earth is blessed, calm, peaceful, and happy to be fresh green. So, the spirit continues to produce fresh air and the earth that stores the water that anyone needs,” said Juliyatmono.

Dwi Priyo Ariyanto, Ph.D., as the Head of KHDTK Gunung Bromo, said that the tree planting had been carried out in stages starting last November 28. The activities had successfully planted 700 non-timber forest products, such as eucalyptus and coffee.

The Regent expressed his appreciation to UNS for assisting the Karanganyar Regional Government in developing the Mount Bromo Forest.

“Thank you to the Rector of UNS and all those who have worked together to manage this KHDTK. The trees here are tens of years old, it takes less than 5 minutes to cut them, but it takes 1 generation to grow them,” said Juliyatmono.

This tree planting is conducted under the Karanganyar Ijo Royo-Royo Movement, which falls on December 15, coinciding with the commemoration of the current Regent and Deputy Regent of Karanganyar inauguration day. The activities successfully planted 700 non-timber forest products, such as eucalyptus and coffee.

“This KHDTK is still included in the Perhutani area, but its management is handed over to UNS for education and training purposes. I will always support all collaborative efforts to promote the ‘Karanganyar Ijo Royo-Royo’ Movement. Hopefully, KHDTK will bring benefits, blessings and save water sources. Let’s care for the forest for its future benefit,” he added.

Juliyatmono hopes that the community can become one with nature through this tree planting.

The launching ceremony consists of the opening, inauguration of Kragan Village as a rural sociology laboratory as a collaboration between Agricultural Extension & Communication Program (PKP) FP UNS, followed by tumpeng and ribbon-cutting ceremony by Kragan Village Chief, Widada, S.E., and Dr. Ir. Sugihardjo,M.S. To facilitate sales and increase product selling price, the launching also included an opening for a selling booth named Gantera kiosk.

Cici, a member of HM Pelita committee, explained that Legran product is produced from fresh catfish by the local housewives as the members of Gantera creative economy group

“The product has gone through a series of processes from recipe formulation and composition, quality improvement, price adjustment, interesting packaging, and consumer tasting. This product becomes one of the excellent products in the village with a selling power in the market,” Cici explained to uns.ac.id team on Thursday (8/12/2021).

The launching that was held on Wednesday (24/11/2021) becomes one of the events held by PHP2D HM Pelita Team UNS 2021, who have implemented a community service, especially in Kragan Village, to improve local welfare, solve problems, and grow local people creativity and participation. After the launch, the team conducted a workshop on the catfish cultivation method using bioflok system by fishery extension officer Harry. The last part of the ceremony was a direct survey in the bioflok and hydroponic area directly behind the inauguration site. The bioflok is used to cultivate several types of fish such as catfish, nila (Nile tilapia), mujair (Mozambique tilapia), and sepat (Trichogaster). The site is also used to cultivate bokcoy, water spinach, lettuce, and mustard green. The ceremony was concluded with a photo session.

Cici hoped that Legran product and Gantera creative economy group could reduce the unemployment in the village, increase people income, and increase fish consumption in Kragan village.

“(We) also expect that this product launching could become a means of branding and spirit for Kragan Village to continue innovating in using their potentials,” Cici concluded. Humas UNS

The Team of Holistic Rural Development and Empowerment Program Tim Program (PHP2D), Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), captured this opportunity. The Team with 14 members provided an initiative to assist and train PKK members in Gondosuli Village to process the carrots into various processed foods with high selling prices.

PKK members are selected as the target of this program because the Team observed high enthusiasm from the members who also had participated in various village events, although they finance the activities with their personal funds. Therefore, the Team hoped that the training could educate and provide a business idea for PKK members to generate additional income in financing their activities.

In the training that runs from October to November 2021 under the supervision of Bhimo Rizky Samudro, S.E, M.Si, Ph.D., and collaboration with Agricultural Office Karanganyar, the PHP2D Team taught diverse food products from carrots, such as carrot brownies, nugget, noodles, gummy stick, and flour. The training was appreciated by the Head of Gondosuli Kidul Hamlet, Jarwo, who stated that the training provided a business idea for the PKK members.

“I appreciate and am happy with this event. I even enticed to apply the business idea on foods from carrots to empower the PKK members in Gondosuli village,” Jarwo said.

The foods introduced in training are selected because of their simple production and the equipment needed. The Team also helped the local people in marketing the products through digital marketing by creating accounts in Shopee and Instagram. The Team that won funding from the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdikbudristek) also shared the product information through their social media to reach wider marketing coverage.

Faculty Members in Applied Informatics Research Group (RG) with Hartatik, S.Si., M.Si., Abdul Aziz, M.Cs., and Nurul Firdaus, M.Info.Tech., as members implemented research and community service program in 2021 that focuses on the digitalization of rural tourism. As an implementation of Tri Dharma, the program that aims to promote the great natural tourism potential in Watu Gambir was implemented under a collaboration with Karang Village Chief, Dwi Purwoto, S.E., and the Head of Tourism, Youth, and Sports Office Karanganyar District, Drs. Titis Sri Jawoto.

The local governments support the promotion efforts through Smart Village we application, the creation of video profiles, and social media. Students of Diploma Program (D-3) in Informatics Engineering were also involved in the program: A. Niko P., Windhi Nur Safitri, and Hafidh An Naafi Suratno.

The “Go wisata” web page is projected to facilitate the local community to promote their tourism destination digitally. Visitors will also be assisted in finding the location and information on points of interest in Watu Gambir rural tourism such as flower garden, lake, reserve camping ground, river tubing, lodging, restaurants, and boats.

The developed application also empowers local people who own hotels or culinary businesses to promote their business. The Tourism Office involvement is also expected to hold the digitalization process in the rural tourism destination. “Go Wisata” Application is an implementation and development of fundamental research, “Go-Payment,” as an effort to improve the tourism industry amid the digital payment era.

“Using this application, we hope to bridge one another and bring benefits for the Diploma Program (D-3) in Informatics Engineering UNS, village apparatus, local community, and tourist of Watu Gambir, continue to develop my village, visit wisatagambir.com, and empower our village. The PHP2D Program from BEM FP UNS won an IDR 35 million funding from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbud Ristek) 2021 and an addition of IDR 10 million from Ngunut Rural Funds. The secured funds were fully allocated to empower the local MSMEs, especially for the processed products from Family Medicinal Plants (Toga) in Ngunut to improve product added values to be able to compete with other products.

The Team also opened an Agridaya booth in the event to improve local excellent product’s added values, which received positive responses from the partner MSMEs. Sayemilah, as one of MSMEs’ partners, stated that MSMEs’ product launching had enabled her to sell his products to the market. “PHP2D activities increased the attractiveness of instant jamu that it is easier to sell in the market,” Sayemilah stated. The benefits of PHP2D BEM FP UNS were also perceived by Ngunut Village Chief, Sutarno, S.Pd., who mentioned that the event could improve the community economy and empower Ngunut Village people.

Although receiving positive response from the MSME partner and village government, Dr. Ir. Eka Handayanta, S.P., IPU, ASEAN Eng as Vice-Dean for Academic, Research, and Student Affairs FP UNS reminded FP UNS students to add more village partners to support the Student Community Service Program (KKN) for village development offered by Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) UNS team because PHP2D program is the implementation of Village Development MBKM.

During the implementation of the PHP2D program, students in the PHP2D Agridaya Team BEM FP UNS were not just received outside class learning but also ten credits (SKS) recognition for relevant courses such as KKN, Rural Sociology, Animal Husbandry Extension and Communication, Marketing, and Management of Animal Husbandry, Agricultural Sociology, and Marketing Information System and Marketing Management. In the future, Sugihardjo, S.IP., M.M, as Jumantono Subdistrict Head, hoped that Ngunut Village MSMEs products could develop from excellent village products into Karanganyar District excellent products.

“Hopefully, Ngunut Village MSMEs’ products could be accelerated with interesting packaging and become Karanganyar excellent products,” Sugihardjo stated.

In line with Jumantono Subdistrict Head, the Head of Cooperative, Trades, Manpower, and SMEs Office of Karanganyar District, Martadi, S.Sos., M.M also hoped that Ngunut Village local product could reach the international market. The mentioned that Ngunut MSMEs could join the International Council Small Business (ICSB) to ensure product sustainability and enter the global market.

The Tourism, Youth, and Sports Office of Karanganyar District, represented by its Office Secretary, reminded that to compete at the local and global level, the MSMEs product need to have a marketing permit that opens an opportunity for the product to be marketed as local souvenirs for local and international tourists. “Ngunut Village local products (need) to be registered to enter various souvenir centers in Karanganyar and Ngunut Village to establish Tourism Awareness Group to facilitate the establishment of Rural Tourism destination,” Agung Tjahjo stated.
