UNS — International publications are intensively encouraged at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta. Indeed, the international publication made by academic members is expected to be published in reputable journals indexed by reputable institutions, for example, Scopus. However, it is undeniable that such accomplishment is difficult to achieve, especially for beginners. In this regard, lecturers of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNS, Tri Mulyaningsih, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D., shared some tips.

Dr. Mulyaningsih explained that there are many ways for articles to get published in Scopus indexed reputable journals. Researchers can submit articles to conferences that provide publication in Scopus indexed proceedings. “Publication through Scopus indexed proceedings is usually easier, compared to publishing articles directly to journals because reviewers for proceedings are usually not as strict as journal reviewers,” she said in a Scopus Indexed Proceedings Writing Assistance event at UNS Inn some time ago.

The first aspect that needs to be prepared is the suitability of the conference theme and the article. Articles that fit the conference theme will have a higher chance of being accepted than one that does not fit the theme. This suitability involves the written article’s main focus, economic activity, and efficiency. Additionally, Dr. Mulyaningsih also reminds participants to follow the format or template provided by the organizer because each organizer has its own writing style. After the article has met the conference theme and writing template, the next aspect to fulfill is plagiarism checking. Before sending the article to the organizer, the researcher must conduct a plagiarism check on the article. Scopus proceedings usually require this. Plagiarism checks can be made on applications designated by the organizer, such as Turnitin or iThenticate. In general, the required level of plagiarism should not be higher than 10 percent.

If all these steps have been done, the last step is to re-read the articles written for any spelling errors on the titles, authors, abstracts, margins, tables, images, as well as citations and references. “Each conference has a specific template, so don’t use the wrong article format because it will have a big impact,” explained Dr. Mulyaningsih at the event organized by the International Publications Implementation Unit (UPPI), Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) UNS.

With this Writing Assistance, Dr. Mulyaningsih, who currently serves as Coordinator for Social Humanities Field at UPPI LPPM UNS, hopes that many UNS lecturers and students will be interested in submitting their articles for publication in Scopus proceedings. Despite the challenges in publication, Dr. Mulyaningsih believes that all this effort is achievable with great perseverance. Humas UNS

As a Lecturer of the Science Education Study Program, Bayu hopes that this activity can prepare FKIP students, as prospective teachers, to implement STEM in their schools.

“Hopefully, this activity will help FKIP students as prospective teachers to get ready to implement STEM in their future schools,” Bayu wishes. Humas UNS
