The event, titled “Traveling and Teaching,” aimed to provide quality reading materials. This initiative was designed to enhance the knowledge and insights of the students at Sekolah Peradaban. Additionally, it sought to foster reading interest and literacy among the children.

The participants in this activity were master’s and doctoral students from various study programs at UNS. These students are members of the LPDP Scholarship Recipients Association. They collaborated with ANDI Publisher (Yogyakarta), Ziyad Books (Surakarta), and the Cerdas Kimia YouTube channel. The teaching staff at Sekolah Peradaban Magelang also supported the program. A total of 13 students and 4 teachers from the school participated in the activity.

In a statement to uns.ac.id on Monday (20/1/2025), Julhan Irfandi, Chair of the Organizing Committee, explained that the activity was a form of community service in the field of education. He emphasized that the LPDP UNS program would continuously conduct this initiative.

“Through this book donation and one-day teaching activity, we aim to increase the children’s interest in reading and enhance literacy at the school. We also aim to extend similar activities to other schools or educational foundations in need,” Julhan explained.

Saras, the Founder of Sekolah Peradaban Magelang, expressed her gratitude for the contribution of the LPDP UNS students. She stated that the activity was highly beneficial for her students. Furthermore, she extended her heartfelt thanks for the books and teaching provided. “We are deeply grateful to the LPDP scholarship recipients at UNS. The books donated sparked the children’s enthusiasm for learning and captured their interest,” Saras said.

The Traveling and Teaching activity began with the handover of books from UNS students to Sekolah Peradaban. Ike Nur Syamsiah, a master’s student in Geography Education at UNS, conducted the following teaching session. Ike delivered a lesson on disaster mitigation, starting with earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. “We explained the signs of volcanic eruptions, such as earthquakes. Additionally, we outlined the actions to take during these events,” Ike said.

The session included visuals and songs to make the material easier for the children to remember. Additionally, Ike and the team conducted a simulation of a volcanic eruption. This captivated the children and encouraged their active participation.

Representing the student team, Gayus Yudha Girsang, a master’s student in Civil Engineering at UNS, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to teach and donate books to the students at Sekolah Peradaban. “We hope the student team can deliver even better activities in the future,” he concluded.

This community service activity aligns with LPDP’s efforts to achieve the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). Specifically, it focuses on ensuring quality education by providing education to those in need.

Prof. Yunus added that currently, the number of UNS students or graduates who succeeded in receiving this scholarship is still slim. Of the 40 thousand UNS students, only hundreds received the LPDP Scholarship. Therefore, Prof. Yunus aims to increase the number of participants in LPDP Scholarship selection and recipients for UNS graduates. “There are about 40 thousand UNS students, but if we check further, those who get LPDP scholarships are still very small. Therefore, yesterday we also went to Mr. Dwi Larso, the Director of LPDP Scholarships, to provide dissemination to UNS students and also lecturers,” said Prof. Yunus.

The initial steps taken by UNS LPDP Scholarship Recipient Association through the Sharing Session were appreciated by Prof. Yunus. He hopes that the event can also help increase students’ motivation to continue their studies to higher levels.

The Committee Chair for the Sharing Session, Desi Fitri Yani, explains that the sharing session was intended to disseminate LPDP scholarship requirements. In addition, this sharing session also serves as the media to exchange experiences related to LPDP scholarship selection. “This event aims to introduce or disseminate LPDP Scholarships-related information, concerning the selection process, such as preparation shall be made and students’ motivation to pursue further study,” she said.

The Chairman of the UNS LPDP Scholarship Recipient Association, Dimas Fahrudin, added that this event was the first step taken by his party. After this, Dimas and the committee will provide mentoring for participants interested in applying for LPDP scholarships. “This event will be a series of activities. The first is sharing session, then mentoring. We will assist the participants until the interview stage,” said Dimas.

Dozens of students attended the virtual event held through Zoom Cloud Meetings from UNS and outside UNS. Three speakers were invited to share their experiences related to LPDP Scholarships. The three speakers were Elysa Meilani (LPDP awardee at Wageningen University and Research), M. Rifqi Zulkarnain (LPDP Awardee at Universitas Gadjah Mada), and Aldi Dwi Saputra (LPDP awardee at UNS). The talkshow is the last event in the LPDP UNS Scholarship Socialization program. The first series of this event was a webinar on “Tips for Preparing Personal Statement and Essay on Contribution for Indonesia”. The LPDP UNS Awardee Association chairman, Danan Tricahyono, S.Pd., stated that he is delighted with the participant’s enthusiasm.

“This talkshow is the second series and the last this year. The first series was held on 1 June 2021,” he explained.

In the event attended 450 participants, the committee invited LPDP Alumni and Talent Management Team, Mohammad Kamiluddin, and two alumni of LPDP awardees, Aan Khosihan, S.Pd., M.Sos., and Dian Rachmatika, S.Pd., M.A., as speakers.

Kamiluddin shared the requirements and stages in the LPDP scholarship selection process and discussed all requirements that applicants need to prepare. He also gave suggestions and motivations for applicants to be optimistic that they could win the scholarship.

“Give your best effort. If your way is through LPDP, inshaAllah, you will win the scholarship. If your way is somewhere else, there is the best way for you somewhere,” he stated.

Aan Khosihan shared tips and tricks for interviews based on his experience. The Sociology Program UNS graduate shared his advice on what applicants need to prepare before, during, and after the interview. Aan also shared his journey to apply for an LPDP scholarship for National Universities.

The third speaker, Dian Rachmatika, also shared her success story with winning the LPDP scholarship for her master’s study at the University of Southampton, UK. The YouTuber popular with her stage name, Dira, shared the “7 Ways to Make Your Interview Outstanding”. Dira said that research is vital for the applicant when writing their essay and going through the interview process.

The materials from the speakers successfully attracted participant’s attention which leads to an active question-and-answer session. Humas UNS
