The event aimed to promote financial literacy among students and the public through collaboration between LPS, the Ministry of Finance, Bank Indonesia (BI), and the Financial Services Authority (OJK). The four institutions are part of the Coordination Forum for Development Financing through the Financial Market (FK-PPPK).

In his keynote address, Prof. Dr. Anggito Abimanyu, M.Sc., Chairperson of the LPS Board of Commissioners, emphasized the importance of mastering self-control in managing finances. He noted that the most challenging aspect of financial management often lies in overcoming one’s own ego.

“Today, many people fall into FOMO and YOLO behaviors. We need to be wiser in distinguishing between needs and wants.”

Prof. Anggito also expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Finance, Bank Indonesia, and OJK for their continued collaboration in running the LIKE IT program.

“This initiative reflects our shared responsibility to ensure that the public and younger generation receive proper financial education, so that they will be more knowledgeable in managing their finances wisely and securely,” he said.

The LIKE IT program at UNS attracted around 1,500 participants, including students, faculty members, and university leaders such as the Rector, Vice Rectors, Deans, Heads of Study Programs, and lecturers. The overarching theme for this year’s LIKE IT program is “Financially Independent Young Generation towards Golden Indonesia.”

UNS holds a distinctive position as the first university in Indonesia to offer a course on Deposit Insurance and Financial System Stability. This academic commitment has driven LPS and UNS to strengthen their partnership, which has been ongoing since 2013.

“UNS is one of the most active universities in collaborating with LPS—not only in academic programs, but also through many alumni who now serve in key positions within LPS,” Prof. Anggito said.

Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si., expressed his gratitude and appreciation to LPS for choosing UNS as a partner in hosting this educational initiative.

“It is an honor for UNS to be part of the national financial literacy movement initiated by the FK-PPPK, which brings together LPS, Bank Indonesia, the Ministry of Finance, and the Financial Services Authority,” said Prof. Hartono.

According to him, the LIKE IT program serves as a concrete step in deepening public understanding of financial literacy, particularly among young people.

The partnership between UNS and LPS has grown over more than a decade, producing collaborative research, international journal publications, and curriculum development in the area of deposit insurance.

“We take pride that in 2024, UNS became the national pioneer in implementing deposit insurance education across six study programs in four faculties and schools. This reflects UNS’s commitment to strengthening students’ financial competence and expanding the university’s academic contribution to public policy,” Prof. Hartono explained.

He further noted that this collaboration aligns with UNS’s strategic plan, DREAMTEAM, particularly the ACTIVE value, which emphasizes proactive collaboration with national and international partners, adaptive learning, and socially relevant innovation.

“Through this spirit, our partnership with LPS is not merely a program-based cooperation but a tangible implementation of UNS’s strategy toward global reputation and national impact,” he added.

Prof. Hartono closed his remarks by expressing hope for continued synergy between UNS and LPS. “I hope today’s LIKE IT x Kampung Edukasi LPS event becomes an inspiring moment for UNS students and all participants to gain new insights and motivation to become architects of Indonesia’s inclusive, resilient, and sustainable economy, in pursuit of the 2045 Golden Indonesia vision,” he concluded.

During the event, 1,500 UNS students received presentations from several key speakers, including Ahmad Subhan (Director of Financial System Stability Analysis Group, LPS); Erawati (Director of Financial Profession Development and Supervision, Directorate General of Financial Sector Stability and Development, Ministry of Finance); Arief Rachman (Director of Financial Market Development Department, Bank Indonesia); and Wahyu Budi Satriyo (Director of Integrated Financial Sector Policy, Financial Services Authority).

Prof. Sajidan said that this webinar was one of the agenda of the 46th UNS Anniversary. Moreover, this event is also a side agenda for the Indonesia G20 agenda. Further, he states that the pandemic had paralyzed Indonesia’s economy and global economy for almost three years. Various efforts have been made to restore the already sluggish economy. To this end, the webinar was held to learn about global perspectives on how to restore the economic condition. “I hope this webinar provides a comprehensive understanding for financial institutions on how to restore the economy in the current pandemic era,” said Prof. Sajidan.

Didik Madiyono, a Member of the Board of Commissioners of Deposit Insurance Institution (LPS), delivered an opening view on savings and loans regulations implemented in Indonesia during the pandemic. Didik said that the Covid-19 pandemic that hit Indonesia more than two years ago did reduce people’s interest in economic activities. However, now Indonesia’s economy is slowly recovering. The economic recovery was triggered by various government policies, such as the national vaccination programs. In addition, various policies and legal relaxations also affect the economy’s growth in Indonesia during the pandemic.

“For more than two years, Indonesia and other countries have been fighting the Covid-19. Nevertheless, the Indonesian economy began to recover with extensive vaccinations and various social policies,” said Didik.

Global economic recovery perspectives in the pandemic era were discussed in detail by five speakers from various global universities. This webinar invited two speakers from the United Kingdom, namely Prof. John Williams (Bangor University) and Prof. John O.S. Wilson (University of St. Andrews). Other speakers were from Qatar, Prof. Ahmet Faruk Aysan (Hamad bin Khalifa University), and Ruth Tacneng, Ph.D., from Universite de Limoges, France.
