The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, welcomed this partnership and wished that this partnership could accomplish the previously designated proper and clean government implementation. “I sincerely hope that UNS partnership with BPKP can be useful to monitor the implementation of priority programs that have been announced, thus, it can be carried out well, smoothly, and be free from deviations,” said Prof. Jamal.

The partnership is also expected to develop towards the implementation of Higher Education Tri Dharma, including accommodating the implementation of Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM). “Once signed by BPKP and UNS, the document should not only be stored in the drawer and serve as an archived document. Instead, this partnership must be followed up immediately in academics, research, service, internships, KKN, and various other sectors, including the involvement of professionals and excellent auditors from BPKP—who are willing to collaborate to promote UNS—to deliver lectures at UNS,” he added.

The partnership established between UNS and BPKP targeted to empower the Center of Excellence (CoE) through self-governing. This memorandum of understanding aims to support the implementation of tasks and functions in improving the internal government supervision quality, spurring creativity and co-creation, fostering the implementation of applied research and study results, encouraging the advancement of science that will be beneficial to national development, and empower and synergize existing resources and knowledge in supporting internal supervision development.

The scope of this partnership includes the implementation of Higher Education Tri Dharma as well as the empowerment of CoE STAR for the dissemination of science and applied research or studies that support internal supervision development. Additionally, knowledge management system capability improvement, which is related to financial and development internal supervision, as well as internal supervision policies development and creations—through the utilization of applied research results or studies conducted academically—are also covered in the partnership that will be valid within three years period.

The General Secretary of BPKP, Ernadhi Sudarmanto, thanked UNS for opening up and willing to collaborate with BPKP. This partnership is expected to facilitate both institutions to achieve the main research objective related to the implementation of proper and clean governance through the planned CoE. “Through CoE, we want to collaborate with academic experts for the greatest benefit of both higher education and BPKP. For 2022, BPKP is working with UNS for research in the APP sector, namely strengthening good and clean government administration,” said Ernadhi.

With this partnership, Ernadhi revealed that he wanted to explore a more effective and appropriate perspective for better and cleaner government administration. Further, the partnership between UNS and BPKP encourages a scientific culture and strengthens BPKP’s position and accountability for financial supervision and development in the public sector. Humas UNS

Prof. Kuncoro also hoped that UNS could win at least IDR 50 billion in funding from the scheme. He added that to prepare faculty members to join the program UNS has collaborated with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf), Ministry of Environment and Forestry (LHK), and some partners from DUDI. The Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, SH., M.Hum., also mandated the Director of Innovation and Downstreaming to oversee Matching Fund 2022 and to assist and provides confirmation needed by the applicants. The university also provided other administrative support for applicants.

The first socialization material was delivered by the Dean of FP UNS, Prof. Dr. Ir.
UNS — Students of the Faculty of Engineering (FT), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) participated in the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Medeka (MBKM) Project in Joho Village, Pracimantoro District, Wonogiri Regency. The team consisted of students from the Architectural Engineering and Civil Engineering Study Program (Prodi). In this activity, they worked on the creation of a master plan for the village area. Reporting from the ft.uns.ac.id webpage, this project began in September 2021. The site survey was the initial activity undertaken. While in December 2021, the team will start the design phase. The first master plan design was completed and has been presented to the Joho Village resident. This design stage is mainly handled by the students from the Architectural Engineering Study Program. “Our project in the village is started with the village residents’ request for an establishment plan to transform the field into a stadium, which also includes a reservoir. Around this reservoir, there is empty land, and we were requested to plan a multi-purpose building and transform the garden landscape,” said Adam Maulana, one of the Architecture students.

Yuan Efano Sofyan, Adam’s colleague, also pointed out that the outcome of this project will be the village masterplan design. The design provides the public facilities needed by the village residents.

After the presentation held in February 2022, the project was continued by the students of the Civil Engineering Study Program. Their role involves the calculation of the building structures. This student collaboration, according to Yuan, is very helpful in calculating the stadium structure and the multi-purpose buildings that were previously designed by the Architectural students. “Previously, there was an idea to collaborate the Architectural with Civil Engineering students. That is to measure the stadium structure and the multi-purpose buildings we designed. Hence, we can know whether the design can be implemented or not. That’s how it goes,” Yuan explained.

There are numerous expectations for this MBKM project. The design that has been made is expected to be useful for many parties. UNS students can also gain hands-on experience to apply their knowledge. The students reveal that they are happy if the designs that have been made can be realized in the future.

In addition, according to Adam, scientific collaborations can also be applied to other projects. Indeed, it must be applied in an effective and efficient way in order to get quality results.

“This MBKM program is highly helpful. The problem is that Architectural engineering needs more experience, such as a presentation in front of lecturers is different from a presentation made in front of public agencies. It feels very different. So there is the experience (through this project),” Yuan said. Humas UNS

In his report, Prof. Yunus stated that there are around 1,400 students who participated in this KKN. Prof. Yunus also hoped that the programs could assist the local people in developing their villages and the importance of accelerating local programs for resources development. “Local potential needs to be explored; for example, in Kemuning, there is a potential for hydroelectric energy, which can be developed,” Prof. Yunus added.

Kebumen Regent Arif Sugiyanto shared his appreciation for UNS sending their students to the district. He also emphasized the importance of the bottom-up approach in the national development implemented by UNS through the KKN program. “Hopefully, the students brought new spirits to the village, and (the program) can be continuous,” he added.

On the same occasion, Prof. Jamal also shared his appreciation for all KKN teams that have completed their programs. “The community service program conducted by UNS students for 45 days has completed and run smoothly. I am delighted to receive the news that the local development program prepared by the students are succeeded in developing independence in KKN UNS locations,” Prof. Jamal stated.

He added that Kebumen was selected as the KKN location because of its rich potential, tourism, culinary, creative industry, and handicrafts. Since 1991, UNS has actively developed the region through its Elementary School Teacher Education (PGSD) on Kebumen Campus.

“My highest gratitude to the local governments in UNS KKN Thematic locations. Hopefully, the local community could continue our students’ program,” he concluded. Humas UNS

UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta established a partnership with the Social Security Organizing Agency (BPJS) Monday (11/4/2022). The partnership was marked by signing a memorandum of understanding between the two parties in Conference Room II of dr. Prakosa Building UNS.

The signing of the memorandum was carried out by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, SH, M. Hum., the Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Yunus, and the Vice-Rector for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information Affairs UNS, Prof. Dr. rer.nat. Sajidan, along with the Director of Inspection Supervision and Inter-Institution Relationship BPJS Kesehatan, Mundiharno, witnessed by the President Director of BPJS, Prof. dr. Ali Ghufron Mukti, M.Sc., Ph.D., AAK. This partnership is conducted to support the Tridharma of Higher Education Institution implementation and optimize the National Health Insurance program – Indonesian Healthy Card (JKN-KIS) implementation.

In his remark, Prof. Jamal said that one of the indicators of the developed country is related to how the country delivers health insurance for its citizens, and now BPJS has managed to fulfill the indicator. To this day, out of 270 million Indonesians, around 236 million Indonesian citizens are registered as BPJS participants, equal to 86% of the national population.

“Under the leadership of Prof. Ali Ghufron, BPJS Kesehatan took an extraordinary approach to the community. The education institution, which was previously untouched, thanks to Prof. Ali Ghufron’s initiative, BPJS can now establish a partnership with Higher Education, thus allowing the academic community to participate in the BPJS program,” said Prof. Jamal.

The signatory of this partnership agreement not only declares equal access to health services but also marks an effort to provide greater space for students to study with BPJS Kesehatan through the Merdeka Belajar Campus Merdeka (MBKM) Program. “Since Covid-19, our policy is not limited to health and safety, but we are fortunate. The government through BPJS Kesehatan has prepared everything related to the health of Indonesian citizens,” said Prof. Jamal.

In another remark, Prof. Ali Ghufron said as it is generally known that Indonesia is committed to achieving Universal Health Coverage in 2024 by helping each other to improve the level of public health and provide protection. “As stated by the Rector of UNS, we have reached 236 million participants or 86% of the total Indonesia citizen, and as stated in the 2020/2024 RPJMN, by 2024, we aimed to increase this figure to 98%. Hence, the Indonesian people can feel real social protection in the health sector,” he concluded. Humas UNS

UNS — Three Students of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta initiated a Micro Hydro Power Plant (PLTMH) Project in Magetan. This project is part of Internship Scheme for the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka Program (MBKM), the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) of the Republic of Indonesia (RI).

The three students are Lana Alfirza, Muhamad Dwi Septiyanto, and Pradipta Nareswari. The students of the Mechanical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering (FT) UNS, have the opportunity to take six months of out-of-campus study, starting from September 2021 – to February 2022. The program was conducted in the Public Works and Public Housing Office (PUPR) of Magetan Regency, East Java.

Reporting from ft.uns.ac.id, the focus of this internship activities is on the water resources section. It also relates to the projects they conducted. This internship project is divided into two PLTMH, namely the PLTMH in Ngentep and Tirtosari, Sarangan. This alternative renewable resources power plant can be useful for public road lighting and educational tourism from the Sarangan Lake route to the Tirtosari waterfall. The same applies to the Ngentep power plant project. The Ngentep power plant supports the electricity supply for public street lighting because the conditions in the area are still lacking in lighting, and it is very dark at night. The lack of electrical lighting installations in the remote area surrounding Ngentep is one of the reasons.

During the internship period, the three Mechanical Engineering students carried out various work to complete the planned project. According to Dwi, as one of the internship members, the team is entrusted to design the PLTMH building construction. “The design is purely created by us, students, including the power generator system. Following the design, the Ngentep generator has a capacity of 1,000-watt power, and the Tirtosari generator has around 16 to 18 kilos of watts. Our contribution is limited to the design process, potential analysis, supervision of construction workers, and the installed design analysis. For the mechanical aspect, we have specifically constructed the turbine installation of the plant,” explained Dwi (17/02/2022)

This internship project carried out under the supervision of Dr. D. Danardono Dwi Prija T, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., and Prof. Dr. Eng Syamsul Hadi, S.T., M.T., was completed even before the internship period ended. “The project has been finished around December, and we are just waiting for the tool application for distribution,” added Dwi.

Dwi also explained their everyday life during their internship at PUPR Magetan. He recounted his first month when they departed with various tools like wind speed gauges and many others. They searched for rivers data in Magetan that had the potential to install power plants at the request of the Magetan Regency Government. Not only that, but they also measure wind speed.

Furthermore, in the second month, Dwi and his colleagues made the mechanical construction design for the power plant. For this part, they are allowed to work at Magetan or the FT UNS Mechanical Engineering Laboratory. The use of campus laboratories also facilitates consulting sessions with the supervisors.

Then, in the third month, the three were given the project design framework and asked to supervise the construction workers. Once all the tools have been installed and the building has been finished, technical analysis is carried out. The analysis includes building strength, turbine effective life, and preparing the Standard Operation and Procedure (SoP) for turbine maintenance.

Dwi claimed that the experience during his internship at the Magetan Regency PUPR Office was very memorable because Magetan is renowned for beautiful and amazing natural tourism. They hope that the electricity generated from the completed internship projects can be distributed immediately.

“Hopefully, the Magetan PUPR can operate the turbine immediately because it has been installed, thus the electricity can be distributed immediately. Hence, the second purpose of this internship for supporting educational tourism can be implemented smoothly, considering the crowded tourism transportation. At the same time, it can encourage other regions to take advantage of the existing SDA because it is undeniable that in Indonesia, fossil energy for electricity generation still dominant. Hopefully, this PTLMH project can motivate other areas to explore the potential of renewable sources such as water, wind, and others,” he concluded. Humas UNS

UNS — Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) is one of the programs included in Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudritek), and has been open since 2021. The program offers the opportunity to study at leading colleges abroad for a semester.

When the IISMA program first opened, 22 students from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta were successfully selected as a delegation in this program. One of them is a Faculty of Medicine (FK) UNS student, Medicine Education Study Program (Prodi), Anis Sofia Harjanti. Anis was selected for a semester program at the University of Edinburgh (UoE), Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom. She becomes a visiting student at the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, and the School of Health in Social Science.

Anis’s desire to be able to gain experience abroad, she admitted, has existed since 2020. She had tried her luck by participating in various kinds of activities at the international level. Although several times she had failed, departure cancelation and selection cancellation notice, all of that did not discourage Anis from trying.

“In 2021, I saw the IISMA program at MBKM. Afterward, I searched for more information and found out the program details. I need to admit that I was amazed that the opportunities provided through this program exceeded my expectations. I think IISMA is one whole package for all student exchange programs. Because of this, I cannot hold myself to not trying to register for IISMA,” said Anis, Tuesday (8/3/2022).

Anis revealed that after the IISMA program was launched, she immediately prepared the necessary application requirements. Anis acknowledged the difficulty due to the limited circulation of information in advance and the absence of detailed information from the previous batch. This situation happened because, at that time, Anis became the First Batch awardee of the IISMA program.

“So, I can only rely on IISMA official information channels. I have quite a few unnerving matters. Sometimes the information is disclosed suddenly and often changing,” Anis continued.

Anis’ Tips on Passing IISMA Selection
According to Anis, the first thing to be prepared for is to do extensive research about the IISMA program. Because this is the essential step to get to know more about IISMA, then prepare all requirements carefully to be an IISMA awardee. Give your best efforts and prepare more for every application you sign up for.

“Especially one that is quite difficult in the essay section. As much as possible, you need to know your personal purpose for participating in IISMA and then link it to the objective of IISMA itself. There must be a connection to why you are a suitable candidate for the IISMA program. In your essay, you can write down all of the real-life cases you’ve experienced, the challenges, and how you deal with them. Or write down how IISMA can support you in your post-university education competition. Basically, craft your essay well,” Anis explained.

Anis added that because there has been the first batch of IISMA awardees, you can learn from them (the previous IISMA awardee). Find a mentor or someone who can be your role model. Ask them about our community apps because their input is precious and can be helpful reflection material. Also, don’t forget to continue to hone your English skills, both spoken and written.

“For those who are still hesitant or afraid to register for IISMA, the key is to try first. Because in my opinion, if we don’t try, we’ll have a 0% chance of success. Whereas when we dare to try, we will have a 50% chance of success and a 50% chance of failure. And it is okay if, in the end, we get the chance to fail because failure will always be there. The point is, what important are the things that can be learned during the process, whether it works or not. I myself have experienced rejection. The plan I have made must be cancelled, or the plan is not going according to what I expected, and that is really fine. That lesson helped me prepare for something else better in the future. Do your best and let God do the rest,” Anis explained.

Meanwhile, during her one semester at the UoE, there are many things that Anis can learn. She learned a lot about applying a work-life balance, where students must work and study earnestly but can still enjoy life. Then there is the learning environment in the UoE that trains students to be independent. “Here, the system does not allow the material to be taught directly to students. Before each class session, the lecturer or teacher gives reading material, and then we discuss the material in the classroom. I think this is one way that students can keep up with their learning materials because studying is not just for exams but also for learning to understand. Examination at the UoE is also not limited to the reading material, or knowledge learned in class. Sometimes exams are carried out in the form of essays, and it teaches me how to consider some expert opinions I found,” Anis concluded.

Anis’s message to the future IISMA 2022 awardee, each future endeavor may not be as smooth as imagined. There must be a challenge to face. But you must be able to find a solution to the challenge. Because the IISMA awardee must be able to deal with it. Humas UNS

UNS — The President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) Ir. H. Joko Widodo (Jokowi) attended the Academic Senate Open Session for the 46th Anniversary of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta at UNS Tower Ki Hadjar Dewantara Building, Friday (11/3/2022). On this occasion, President Jokowi was pleased to deliver few briefings to the UNS Rector and Academic Members related to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, the impact of Ukrainian-Russian tensions, human resources development, and the green economy.

First, the former Mayor of Surakarta “confided” about the severity of the challenges and problems that the government had to face when the Covid-19 pandemic hit. He said that numerous heads of government from developed countries in the world were complaining about the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, which resulted in the world economy collapsing.

“Two days ago, the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, called me and spoke a lot. Think of what I said earlier (red: economic problems due to the Covid-19 pandemic). Yesterday at noon, there was another call from Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida concerning the same thing,” said President Jokowi. He (the Japan Prime Minister) said that the world situation was not okay, especially with the tension between Ukraine-Russia and the increase in world commodity prices. This commodity price rise is impacting wheat prices. The reason is that Ukraine and Russia supply about 20 percent of the world’s wheat needs.

President Jokowi also states that the current world oil price faces a drastic surge. In 2020, the oil price was still in the range of $60 US Dollars per barrel. However, the oil price is currently going out of control and has doubled to touch the US $115 mark. “Twice as much (a/n: commodity prices go up). All countries have increased the selling price to the public. In contrast, we’re here still trying to hold on. Mrs. Minister of Finance, I need to ask how many days do you plan to hold?” said President Jokowi.

Global Challenges Get Tougher

In the UNS 46th Anniversary Academic Senate Open Session, President Jokowi said that the world is experiencing a very rapid change, and Indonesia should not become a “victim.”

This situation means that Indonesia must optimize Natural Resources and Human Resources (HR). One example is stopping the export of raw materials, such as nickel.

President Jokowi said the decision was taken to bring more significant profit to the country. He said after nickel exports were spoofed, the country could earn $20 billion US Dollars or around Rp 280 trillion. “Since VOC, we have been exporting raw materials, and until today, we are still exporting raw materials. We do not get any added value, but since 2020 I have told the ministries in Indonesia, one by one, that we must stop (red: export raw materials),” President Jokowi stated.

In the future, President Jokowi will stop the export of other raw materials, starting from bauxite in the coming year. President Jokowi admitted that Indonesia is ready to get sued by global governments due to the cessation of nickel and bauxite exports. “Bauxite export will be stopped next year! I believe that copper or tin will be sued again, but it is okay. It does not necessarily mean that we lose, but also not necessarily we win. But, that courage must be done,” he said.

Starting from the government’s courage to stop raw materials export, President Jokowi also asked universities, including UNS, to be better prepared for changing times and the world. One of the things he asked for was the preparation of superior HR according to the industry needs. President Jokowi said that the preparation time for achieving superior human resources is not necessarily long. He asked UNS and other universities to prepare this matter in two years only before Indonesia faced a demographic bonus in 2030.

Reflecting on the policies taken by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbud Ristek), President Jokowi admitted that he was happy when he saw that students had been able to learn new knowledge outside his study program. He hopes that the Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) can allow Indonesia to catch up with other countries, including preparing digital talents. “Digital talent is important, AI, cloud computing, digital design, digital marketing, blockchain, everything. We must have that HR talent,” he said.

Therefore, the former Governor of DKI Jakarta left UNS a message to dare act for the 46th Anniversary (HUT). Particularly dare to remove the already irrelevant study programs and replace them with a new one.

With 40,000 students, President Jokowi referred to UNS as a talent carrier that must be careful. The reason is that change can be made slowly and requires great courage to do so. “This is our challenge in preparing Indonesian human resources. Congratulations on the UNS 46th Anniversary” concluded President Jokowi. Humas UNS
