The Rector added that the true miniature of the nation had been presented in UNS with its six places of worship in one close area. The six places of worship are Mosque, the Catholic church, the Christian church, Hindu Temple (Pura), Buddhist Temple (Vihara), and the Confucian Temple. (Klenteng). Prof. Jamal also emphasized that he believes that through correct and strong Pancasila education, the university could achieve humane and diversity-friendly campus life that will continue upholding the values of tolerance, tepo seliro (Javanese philosophy of helping each other without discrimination), togetherness, and kinship.

Well-known scholars were invited to the webinar, including Dr. Sarbini, M.Ag., Dr. Winarno, M.Pd, and Dr. Mibtadin, S.Fil.I., M.S.I.

The webinar was opened by Prof. Dr. Leo Agung S., M.Pd., as the Chief of PSPP UNS. The invited speakers shared their views, starting from Dr. Sarbini, a Faculty Member of Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Raden Mas Said Surakarta, who discussed the gap in understanding religiosity in the public space and to be pious privately is often clash with Pancasila. Dr Sarbini explained that religiosity at public places needs to put forward the collective life, similar to adopting Pancasila in the public space, that needs to be aligned with the religious values to minimize the difference between the two.

“Pancasila must be defined in the daily life through religious practices that prioritize collectiveness above all differences. Therefore, religion could serve as an ethical foundation for the development of good nationalism in the healthy public spaces,” Dr. Sarbini, M.Ag., stated.

Different from Dr. Sarbini, who suggested Pancasila implementation through religious practices, Dr. Winarno, M.Pd as the head of Pancasila and Civics Education Program Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) UNS, stated that Pancasila is basically the abstract values of an object. Some people even dubbed it as The Five Principles. “While the concrete application of these values is norms,” he explained.

Dr. Mibtadin, a researcher at PSPP UNS, shared another different view that the religious values or tawasut needs to be developed with Pancasila development could be implemented through education. Therefore, in the Global-Millennials era, the comprehension on Pancasila, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, NKRI, and the 1945 Constitution could be pursued through the Information Technology (IT), for example, by providing creative and up-to-date contents, such as vlogs or TikTok so that education could connect with the millennials.

Characters development also need to start early through the involvement of the millennials generation in the Pancasila community, Ihya a-turats Pancasila, and national knowledge such as the spirit to be united, respect differences, willingness to sacrifice, never give up, patriotism, nationalism, optimism, self-esteem, togetherness, and self-confidence. Character buildings need to involve cultures and traditions to prevent identity loss in the millennials. This effort could be implemented by introducing Pancasila as the nation’s ideology through formal education.

“Or through developing national knowledge and Pancasila through educational institutions, national literacy, and history books,” Dr. Mibtadin concluded. Humas UNS

The event was followed by the Declaration of Kaum Muda Pancasila (Pancasila Youth) UNS through the recitation of Ikrar Panca Karsa Pancasila; ‘We are Kaum Muda Pancasila UNS pioneer campus and Pancasila Vanguard pledge: first, we are ready to keep and defend Pancasila as the only nations and state’s ideology. Second, we are ready to defend and implement the 1945 Constitution. Third, we are ready to uphold the Bhinneka tunggal ika principle in Indonesian national and state life. Fourth, we are ready to maintain and defend the unity of the Republic of Indonesia. Fifth, we are ready to support and implement all efforts for community empowerment towards a just and prosperous society based on Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution.

Follow-Up for Pancasila

The declaration was followed by a discussion with Dadan Adi Kurniawan S.Pd., M.A. (PSPP UNS researcher), Nur Fatah Abidin, S.Pd., M.Pd.(PSPP UNS researcher), and Zakky Musthofa Zuhad (President BEM UNS), as speakers, and Aulia Fatimatuz Zahra (Directorate General of Student Regeneration BEM UNS) as moderator. According to Dadan Adi Kurniawan, S.Pd., M.A., Sumpah Pemuda commemoration should not stop at remembering but should serve as reflection and follow-up to implement what has been planned. “We need to learn from Sumpah Pemuda and learn the history of Sumpah Pemuda, and take its spirit for our future,” Dadan stated.

Nur Fatah Abidin, S.Pd, M.Pd., added that the conceptualization of Pancasila at the community life is dynamic, not limited to an ideology but also daily life values. Therefore, the young generation needs to be aware that in any time period, the young generation always brings changes. Zakky Mustofa Zuhad stated that Sumpah Pemuda is a symbol of unity that focuses on youth’s commitment as someone who feels restlessness towards their county. In 1928, the young generation was restless because they were apart. When restlessness was not present, nobody had the feeling to move forward in creating benefits, and the youth always moved forward to solve an issue. “Pancasila is not just words, but need to grow and (have a strong) root in the community. Hopefully, Pancasila will continue to be the narrative with deep-rooted implementation,” Zakky stated. Humas UNS
