UNS – A total of 47 teams from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta have successfully qualified for the Funding Proposal stage of the Student Creativity Program (PKM) for the year 2024. This result was obtained after a series of internal selections conducted by UNS. Subsequently, these teams will realize the proposals that have been approved for funding in a research project.

The distribution data for the PKM 2024 funding approval shows that 30 proposals for Exact Sciences PKM Research has the highest number. Other schemes include five proposals for Entrepreneurship PKM, four proposals for Social Humanities Research (RSH) PKM, three proposals for Creativity PKM (KC), three proposals for Community Service PKM, one proposal for Applied Science and Technology Creation (PI) PKM, and one proposal for Constructive Idea Video (VGK) PKM.

Furthermore, the distribution data of the faculties for PKM 2024 shows that the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) is the most funded faculty with 13 proposals. This is followed by 11 proposals from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), 9 proposals from the Faculty of Engineering (FT), 5 proposals from the Faculty of Agriculture (FP), 3 proposals each from the Faculty of Psychology (Fapsi) and the Vocational School (SV), and 1 proposal each from the Faculty of Law (FH), the Faculty of Arts and Design, and the Faculty of Information Technology and Data Science (Fatisda).

At this stage, each proposal in PKM is funded by the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs (Belmawa), Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemendikbudristek RI). According to the General Guidelines of PKM 2024, proposals that pass the set standard grade will be funded by Belmawa ranging from 6 million to 10 million Indonesian Rupiah. Universities are required to provide additional funding for proposals that qualify, with a maximum funding amount of 2 million Indonesian Rupiah in cash and/or in kind. Additionally, they can also receive additional funding from other institutions with a maximum funding amount of 1 million Indonesian Rupiah in cash and/or in kind.

The Head of the Academic and Student Affairs Bureau of UNS, Iwan Wisnu Anggono, S.S., M.Si., stated that these proposals had previously undergone selection at the UNS Student Scientific Week (PIM). The university will continue to provide assistance until the Progress Assessment of PKM Implementation (PKP2) stage. He hopes that UNS students can give their best and have an impact on increasing the number of teams qualifying for the 37th National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS) in 2024.

“Our hope is that the number of teams qualifying for PIMNAS increases from these 47. The target is to achieve gold medals in the presentation and poster categories,” Iwan Wisnu, M.Si. said.

UNS has conducted a series of substantive and administrative reviews. A total of 480 proposals were then declared eligible for the UNS PIM. The distribution data for the schemes eligible for UNS PIM shows that 171 proposals for Exact Sciences PKM Research are the highest. Other schemes include 71 proposals for Social Humanities Research (RSH) PKM, 64 proposals for Entrepreneurship PKM, 54 proposals for Creativity PKM (KC), 40 proposals for Scientific Article (AI) and Written Futuristic Ideas (GFT) PKM, 23 proposals for Community Service PKM, 7 proposals for Innovative Works (KI) and Applied Science and Technology Creation (PI) PKM, and 3 proposals for Constructive Idea Video (VGK) PKM.

Following the announcement of the qualification of several teams at this stage, UNS held an inaugural meeting and provided socialization for the PKM 2024 Funding. The First Meeting was held at the Suhardi Hall, Building 3 of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) on Tuesday (30/4/2024). This event featured Dr. Ir. Dewi Handayani, S.T., M.T., who served as a judge at PIMNAS.

In the previous edition, 17 UNS PKM teams qualified for the 36th PIMNAS 2023 held at Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad). UNS won 1 gold medal and 1 bronze medal in the poster category. The gold medal was obtained by the team with the title “Traditional Game Benthik as a Cooperative Play Modification in Overcoming Sibling Rivalry in Children in Bojonegoro Regency“. This achievement was made by the UNS PKM team from the Faculty of Psychology (Fapsi). Meanwhile, the bronze medal was obtained by the team with the title “Gress Synthesis Carbon Quantum Dot (CQDs) from Spoiled Soy Milk with ZnO for Photodegradation of Malachite Green Textile Dyes“. This achievement was made by the UNS PKM team from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA). Humas UNS

UNS — The Plant Biometry Research Group (RG) of Biology Program Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta provided assistance for UBILAR Production House in Matesih Subdistrict, Karanganyar District as a part of Community Service Program (PKM) UNS that runs from August to October 2021.

The community service program was held with support from the Institute of Research and Community Service (LPPM) UNS. The RG was led by Prof. Suranto, M.Sc., Ph.D., and Dr. Solichatun, M.Si., Dr. Nita Etikawati, M.Si., Dr. Widya Mudyantini, M.Si., Ari Pitoyo, M.Sc., Suratman, M.Si., and Ardo Tanjung, M.Sc., as community service members.

The event was held with Farmers Group (Klomtan) Tani Mulyo Kramen members as community service partner since 2019 and aimed to provide assistance for the development of UBILAR Production House as a means for the local women to share their creativity. The production house has also explored the local potential to improve the economy of people in Kramen Hamlet, Pablengan Village. UBILAR Production House has produced various processed foods from sweet potatoes, including sweet potato flour, dodol, brownies, and various biscuits.

“One of the problems that have been identified during the pandemic is the significant decline in production due to the halt in the product promotion and marketing,” Prof. Suranto stated to uns.ac.id on Thursday (28/10/2021).

To solve this issue, PKM RG Plant Biometry planned several activities, including the assistance to apply for a Home Industry Product license (PIRT) for UBILAR sweet potato flour. The team also provided a workshop for product marketing through social media, food photography training, and website management for UBILAR production house for information sharing and product marketing media that maximizes the use of digital technology.

The food photography training and marketing workshop was held through the Zoom Cloud Meeting platform after the participants were introduced to the platform. The event involved students from Kelompok Studi Biopix that focuses on biological photography. The group shared information on the basic knowledge in photography and tips and tricks in taking the best picture in food photography. This skill will help UBILAR in creating its promotional and marketing content. The team also assisted in the development of https://rumahproduksiubilar.com/ as UBILAR Production House website that contains product information, order information, and general information of the production house. Humas UNS

UNS — Student Creativity Program (PKM) of Natural Science Research (RE) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta Team studied digestive friendly cow’s milk. The finding of this study will help lactose-intolerant people to ensure their safety in consuming milk.

Supervised by Dr. agr. Ir. Muhammad Cahyadi, S.Pt., M.Biotech., IPM, the Team members are Mohammad Ilham Dhiaurridho, Firmansyah Tristadika Prakosa, Firna Fauziatul Karimah, Salsabilla Ramadhana, and Ine Febriantama. They are Animal Science Program students of the Faculty of Agriculture (FP) UNS. The study was initiated because of the high report of lactose-intolerant people in Indonesia. The team tried to study the cause of intolerance and found that the A1 variant that contains proline amino acid in the polypeptide chain beta-casein is one of the causes. The team leader, Mohammad Ilham Dhiaurridho, explained that this milk variant contains polypeptide BCM-7 that affects the production and activity of lactose enzymes that causes digestive problems such as abdominal pain, bloating, and diarrhea.

“Our concern was the Indonesian community did not meet their nutritional needs because they are reluctant to consume milk due to diarrhea that occurs after consuming milk. Therefore we conducted a study and found that Friesian Holsten (FH) Indonesia cow that could produce A2 variant and ready to be developed as the producer of digestive-friendly milk,” Ilham explained on Monday (18/10/2021).

The UNS PKM Team analyzed the beta-casein gene in 12 Friesien Holstein (FH) Indonesia cows and found the mutations in exon 7 of the beta-casein gene using DNA sequencing techniques. This mutation caused adenine to change into cytosine, thereby changing the amino acid composition of the beta-casein gene (CSN2) from histidine to proline.

This finding showed that the majority of FH cows in Indonesia bring an A1 variant alel of 0.417 (41.7%) and have a high probability of causing digestive issues. This study also found that 33% of FH cows in Indonesia produced an A2 milk variant that is friendly from people with lactose intolerance because it does not contain the BCM-7 compound and does not cause problems for a digestive system such as diarrhea.

This finding can be used as a factual basis in improving the genetic quality of FH cows in Indonesia that could produce a digestive-friendly A2 milk variant. Dairy farmers, industries, and the government could utilize this research finding in developing FH cows to produce A2 milk variants. Various benefits are projected from this product, such as reducing lactose intolerant cases, increasing community milk consumption, and fulfilling people’s nutritional needs. This condition will have a positive effect on maintaining the immune system amid the pandemic. Humas UNS

UNS — The Student Creativity Program-Scientific Article (PKM-AI) Team Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta won PKM Incentive from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) 2021. The members of this team are Fanesia Debi, Maulana Danar Maaliki, and Aldi Dwi Saputra from the Indonesian Language and Literature Education (PBSI).

Under the supervision of Dr. Kundharu Saddhono, M. Hum., as the Faculty Member of PBSI FKIP UNS, Aldi and team prepared a PKM-AI proposal titled “Friday Preacher in Javanese Language as an Effort to Maintain Indigenous Language: Socio-linguistics Study in Surakarta”. Aldi explained that the title is selected based on their willingness to study Friday Preach from the socio-linguistic aspect to sharpened the socio-cultural studies of a community and its speakers.

“We selected the theme because we want to study Friday Preach, which is a religious agenda with formal and even sacred background. However, the sacredness of this event is affected by the khatib as the speaker and their community socio-cultural condition. This is why Friday Preach is interesting to be studied from the socio-linguistic aspect because it will sharpen the community socio-cultural study and its speakers. Secondly, it is clearly affected by the context of the speech, including speech components,” Aldi explained.

The outcome of their project is the research finding published in Sinta indexed national journal. Aldi explained that their finding is expected to have three benefits. First, to propose an in-depth and comprehensive theory on Friday Preach in the Javanese Language based on the current and real data. Second, to develop socio-linguistic theories such as anthropo-linguistic, religious sociology, and cultural sociology. Third, contributing to preserving the Javanese language as local wisdom in Surakarta.

In the future, Aldi and team hoped that more PKM-AI UNS team could win PKM Kemendikbudristek incentive. “If this year there are 13 teams from UNS who win the PKM-AI, we hope next year it could be more than 20 teams PKM-AI who win PKM Kemendikbudristek incentive,” Aldi concluded. Humas UNS
