LAM-PTKes Appoints Assessors

LAM-PTKes appointed two assessors to conduct the reaccreditation process: dr. Nurcahya Setyawan, Sp.B-KBD, and Dr. Muhammad Arifin Parenrengi, dr., Sp.BS(K). They conducted an on-site assessment of the UNS Surgery Residency Program on Monday and Tuesday, April 21–22, 2025.

The assessment began with a formal reception of the assessors at the Dr. Prakosa Rectorate Building. UNS Rector Prof. Dr. Hartono, M.Si, along with several faculty leaders, welcomed the assessors. Among them was Prof. Dr. Sarwanto, S.Pd., M.Si, Head of the Institute for Educational Development and Quality Assurance (LPPMP) UNS. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rohmadi, S.S., M.Hum, Head of the National and International Accreditation Unit of LPPMP UNS, also attended. dr. Heri Dwi Purnomo, Sp.An., Interim Director of Dr. Moewardi General Hospital, was present. Prof. Dr. Reviono, dr., Sp.P(K), Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, also took part. The vice deans and Head of PPDS Surgical Science Study Programme of FK UNS, Dr. dr. Widyanti Soewoto, Sp.B, Sups.Onk (K) also participated as well.

Commitment to Quality Education

In his remarks, Prof. Hartono reaffirmed UNS’s strong commitment to improving education and healthcare services. “The Faculty of Medicine at UNS collaborates with Dr. Moewardi General Hospital to improve education quality. They implement the Tri Dharma of Higher Education in all programs, including the Surgery Residency Program,” he said.

He also expressed hope that the feedback and suggestions from the assessors would contribute to further advancements in the program.

Clarification on the Accreditation Process

During the session, dr. Nurcahya clarified that the assessors’ role was to verify the accuracy of the information submitted in the accreditation documents. “We are here to observe whether the realities match what was presented in the accreditation forms. We observe and report as part of our role. LAM-PTKes will evaluate the program based on our findings,” he explained.

On-Site Evaluation and Facility Inspection

Following the reception, the assessors joined faculty and program leaders. They proceeded to the UNS Faculty of Medicine Auditorium for the on-site evaluation. The day included presentations by the Dean and Program Head, followed by a Q&A session. The assessors also interviewed faculty members about lecturer-to-student ratios and curriculum delivery. Additionally, student representatives provided input on academic and non-academic services. Alumni employers also shared insights regarding the competencies of the program’s graduates.

On the second day, the assessors visited Dr. Moewardi General Hospital and UNS Hospital to inspect the residency program’s facilities. They also conducted interviews with students and medical staff at both hospitals. The visit included inspections of the UNS Library and the anatomical laboratory. The team also visited the animal testing laboratory managed by the Faculty of Medicine. The accreditation process concluded with a presentation of the assessors’ preliminary findings, marking the end of the site assessment phase.

Rigorous Selection Process

The new students successfully passed a two-stage selection process. This process was conducted through the UNS New Student Admission Selection (SPMB), which began in November 2024. The process involved an online Academic Potential Test (TPA) and an English proficiency test. The next stage was an offline evaluation, which included a medical check-up, psychological test, program interview, and subject knowledge test. Additionally, the evaluation covered a portfolio assessment. It also included interviews with university leaders and the management of dr. Moewardi Regional General Hospital (RSUD).

“Out of 378 applicants, 94.71% advanced to the second stage. Finally, the selection committee officially inducted 112 candidates,” Vice-Rector for Academic and Research Affairs, Prof. Dr. Fitria Rahmawati, S.Si., M.Si., reported.

The university has distributed the 112 new students across 15 study programs:

• 10 in Obstetrics and Gynecology
• 10 in Surgery
• 6 in Psychiatry
• 9 in Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine
• 6 in Orthopedics and Traumatology
• 6 in Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery
• 10 in Pediatrics
• 11 in Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy
• 11 in Internal Medicine
• 6 in Dermatology and Venereology
• 6 in Neurology
• 6 in Clinical Pathology
• 6 in Cardiology and Vascular Medicine
• 6 in Radiology
• 3 in Internal Medicine Subspecialty

High Competition and Accreditation Achievement

UNS Rector, Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si., highlighted the increasing interest in the PPDS and PPDSS programs. For instance, the Psychiatry program received 48 applicants for only six available seats, reflecting intense competition.

“This achievement reflects FK UNS’s excellence, as most of our programs have received the highest accreditation rating. The 2025 Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR) ranked UNS second in Indonesia,” Prof. Hartono stated.

He also emphasized the importance of integrity, ethics, and professionalism for the newly inducted students. “During your undergraduate studies, you might have taken a more relaxed approach. However, in the PPDS and PPDSS programs, your dedication must be greater,” he added.

This induction ceremony reaffirms UNS’s status as a State Legal Entity University (PTNBH). It also highlights the university’s dedication to supporting the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), which focuses on Quality Education. This commitment is especially evident in the field of medicine.

In the August graduation period, FK UNS awarded specialist degrees to 41 new doctors. Among the graduates, four were recipients of the Ministry of Health’s Study Assignment Scholarship, bringing the total number of scholarship recipients to 347 to date.

According to the academic report delivered by the Acting Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Research, and Student Affairs, Dr. Paramasari Dirgahayu, Ph.D., the 41 graduates were composed of 17 from the Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine program, 5 from Clinical Pathology, 5 from Pediatrics, 5 from Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy, 4 from Psychiatry, 4 from Surgery, and 1 from Dermatology and Venereology.

The highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) in this batch was achieved by Melita, dr., Sp.P., from the Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine program, with a GPA of 3,90. The youngest graduate in this cohort was Hapsary Puteri Widodo, dr., Sp.P.K., from Clinical Pathology, who graduated at the age of 27 years and 10 months.

In his speech, dr. Iyan Ari Prabowo, Sp.P., representing the specialist doctors, expressed his pride in being a student at FK UNS and extended his gratitude for the guidance and education provided by the university. He also encouraged his fellow graduates to remain humble and continue striving for excellence.

“I urge my colleagues not to become complacent and to stay humble. Our real journey is just beginning. Let’s dedicate our knowledge to serving the community. Always maintain professionalism by engaging in compassionate and respectful communication with patients to provide the best care possible,” he said on Thursday (29/8/2024).

The Dean of FK UNS, Prof. Reviono, emphasized that it is time for the newly graduated specialists to demonstrate their professional identity. He also advised them to uphold the good name of UNS and maintain strong relationships with their peers and alma mater.

“To our new specialist doctors, it is time to immerse yourselves in the community and apply the knowledge and skills you have acquired in your respective fields for the benefit of society,” Prof. Reviono said.

Through this August graduation, FK UNS has now graduated a total of 1.942 specialist doctors since its founding in 1976. These graduates are spread across the country, serving in various capacities in healthcare, education, research, and as specialists in government, the private sector, and the military or police forces.
