dr. Muhana began his research journey two years ago, focusing on neuroscience, neurology, and neurosurgery. His journey started with his thesis titled “Visual-spatial Intelligence and Learning Modality Preference for Neuroanatomy Comprehension Among Medical Students,” which was published in the Education in Medicine Journal (a Scopus Q2 indexed journal). “This research stemmed from my interest in addressing the challenges of neuroanatomy learning, which many medical students find difficult,” dr. Muhana explained on Thursday (25/7/2024).

During his education at UNS, he served as a research assistant in various departments, including the Department of Neurology under the supervision of Dr. Diah Kurnia Mirawati, dr., Sp.S(K), focusing on catamenial epilepsy and genetic mutations in photosensitive epilepsy. He also worked in the Department of Orthopedics under Dr. dr. Romaniyanto, Sp.OT(K) Spine, MARS, and Dr. dr. Tito Sumarwoto, Sp.OT(K), M.Kes., S.H., M.Hum., exploring the use of stem cells in peripheral nerve and spinal cord injuries. Additionally, he was a research and laboratory assistant in the Department of Anatomy under dr. Nanang Wiyono, M.Kes, primarily in the field of neuroscience.

dr. Muhana has also achieved several other accolades, such as winning the International Gold Medalist at the 5th World Young Inventors Exhibition 2021 with the invention “Effleurage Robot: Innovation Relaxation Robot to Reduce Labor Pain.” This project was guided by Dr. Revi Gama Hatta Novika, S.ST., M.Kes. and funded by the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) grant with support from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Indonesia. He was also a Semi-Finalist at the Hasanuddin National Medical Olympiad and Scientific Competition (HAMOSCO) 2021, won 2nd place in the Basic Medical Science Olympiad 2019 in Anatomy, and 1st place in the National Video Contest – LKTI LECRON 2019.

In addition to his academic achievements, dr. Muhana is active in various organizations and humanitarian projects. He served as the Coordinator for the UNS Covid-19 Vaccination Program, leading 240 committee members and 150 volunteers from 12 different faculties to distribute approximately 30.000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to the public around Surakarta. He also held positions such as Chief of Government and Non-Government Organizations in the Indonesian Medical Student Senate Association (ISMKI), Minister of Public Relations in the UNS Faculty of Medicine Student Executive Board (BEM), and chaired several national events like the “MILESTONE” National Symposium, Workshop, and Paper Competition, and Volunteer Coordinator for the Health Sector at the SDGs Youth Action for Samosir.

The UNS team, called Sahabat Desa, is led by Firda Indah Ramadhani. Team members include Selfi Fitriana, Tarisa Nurul Dzakiya, Laelina Fithrotul ‘Iza, and Annisa Fauza Hidayah. Their community service program is titled “Sahabat Desa: Sustainable Solution from Tofu Wastewater to Liquid Organic Fertilizer for Kemitir Village, Kebumen.”

During their visit to Kemitir, Firda and her team found significant water and air pollution issues. Kemitir is home to several home-based tofu industries. Seven of these tofu industries discharge their wastewater into the river, resulting in contaminated water and unpleasant odors.

“Tofu wastewater actually contains nutrients needed by plants and can fertilize the soil. However, no innovations have been implemented in Kemitir to utilize it,” Firda explained to uns.ac.id on Thursday (18/7/2024).

This prompted the Sahabat Desa UNS team to develop a training program to turn tofu wastewater into liquid organic fertilizer. The initiative was carried out through workshops and hands-on training sessions.

The training consisted of three sessions: two focused on processing tofu wastewater into liquid organic fertilizer and one on packaging the produced fertilizer.

Rochyati, the Secretary of the Kemitir PKK (Family Welfare Movement), praised the UNS students’ program, noting its significant environmental benefits. Through this initiative, residents can convert tofu waste into fertilizer, leading to healthier plants and reduced river pollution.

“The UNS students have diligently and systematically provided their knowledge, from socialization to multiple training sessions, and finally to the packaging of the liquid organic fertilizer. We now understand how to produce and sell it. The knowledge imparted by UNS students has been very beneficial to us in Kemitir,” Rochyati said.

With the conclusion of the training, the UNS PKM PM team is optimistic that this initiative will bring positive changes in tofu wastewater management in Kemitir. They hope that this best practice will be adopted more widely. This program aims to help reduce environmental pollution and improve the quality of the living environment for the people of Kemitir.

The open dissertation defense was chaired by Prof. Dr. Ir. Cucuk Nur Rosyidi, S.T., M.T., with Prof. Dr. Ir. Wahyudi Sutopo, S.T., M.Si. as the head of the supervisory team. Yuniaristanto became the first UNS Doctor of Industrial Engineering graduate with a published article in a top-tier journal (Q1). He completed his doctoral studies in 2 years and 3 months, specializing in Logistics Systems and Business Engineering. The research roadmap was developed in collaboration with the Industrial Engineering and Techno-Economics Research Group (GR-RITE), the Industrial Engineering Study Program (PSTI) UNS, and the Faculty of Engineering UNS.

In his dissertation, Yuniaristanto stated that he did not only examine the technical aspects but also the psychological aspects of consumers and Indonesian national culture, bringing novelty to his research.

“We integrated culture and consumer psychology. The research findings related to culture and psychology indicate long-term orientation,” Yuniaristanto said on Friday (14/6/2024).

He explained that this long-term orientation suggests that using electric motorcycles will be more economical over time. “Although the initial cost may be much higher than conventional motorcycles, educating the public that the total cost over six years is much cheaper than gasoline motorcycles is crucial,” he said.

In his dissertation, Yuniaristanto proposed several recommendations to stakeholders to achieve the government’s electrification targets. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) targets 13,4 million electric motorcycles by 2030.

He suggested the need for incentives for the establishment of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) and Public Electric Vehicle Battery Exchange Stations (SPBKLU).

He also recommended that the government provide financial incentives such as credit interest subsidies for purchasing electric motorcycles, electric cars, or Electric Vehicles (EVs), and for battery production.

Moreover, he suggested that the government start by replacing official and public transport vehicles with electric vehicles.

For the private sector, he encouraged them to be more efficient to make electric motorcycles more affordable, provide battery rental services, and increase the availability of service centers and spare parts.

He also provided recommendations to make electric motorcycles more appealing to younger generations, such as Gen Z.

One suggestion was to frequently organize electric vehicle test drives. He believes that potential consumers should be given the opportunity to try electric vehicles to experience their benefits firsthand. This approach is expected to boost sales.

The four journals are Bestuur Journal, managed by FH UNS, which achieved Quartile 1 with an SJR of 0.38 in the subject area of Law. The Biodiversitas Journal, managed by FMIPA, in the subject area of Animal Science and Zoology, reached Quartile 2 with an SJR of 0.35. The Caraka Tani: Journal of Sustainable Agriculture, managed by FP UNS, in the subject area of Agricultural and Biological Sciences (miscellaneous), achieved Quartile 2 with an SJR of 0.34. Lastly, the Journal of Sains Tanah: Journal of Soil Science and Agroclimatology, also managed by FP UNS, in the subject area of Soil Science, reached Quartile 3 with an SJR of 0.24.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Mujiyo, S.P., M.P., Head of the Journal Development Implementation Unit (UPPJ) at the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) UNS, stated that the rankings in 2023 indicate that three journals have improved their Quartiles. The Bestuur Journal, previously in Quartile 3, rose to Quartile 1. The Biodiversitas Journal, previously in Quartile 3, rose to Quartile 2. The Caraka Tani: Journal of Sustainable Agriculture, previously non-quartile, rose to Quartile 2. Additionally, Sains Tanah: Journal of Soil Science and Agroclimatology experienced an increase in its SJR value.

He expressed that these achievements are very proud moments for the UNS academic community. This success also motivates other academic journal managers within UNS to develop and achieve international indexing.

Their work on “The Exploration of Bio-active Compound as Inhibitor Spike Glycoprotein SARS-CoV-2 In Silico for Antiviral Drug Candidate” was inspired by the increasing number of Covid-19 cases and the lack of specific drugs for treating the illness in the community. Although vaccines are available for the mass, people infected by the new strain of Corona Virus could not get vaccinated and demand a discovery on specific drugs to treat the symptoms.

To uns.ac.id, Adhie explained that the rich bioactive compounds in Red Algae, the availability of Red Algae in the environment, and the simple cultivation method of Rhodophyta are the factors that capture their interest in studying the organism. Their study was performed in silico method as the most appropriate method for the current condition.

“One of the methods we performed was in silico; the research was conducted outside the laboratory. This method is appropriate for research in the pandemic when the access to labs is limited,” Adie explained on Saturday (18/12/2021).

Their success in the competition was welcomed with delight. Adhie and Annisa admitted that they were surprised to win the competition considering this is their first KTI competition at the national level. They went through each stage of the competition with their maximum efforts and full discussion and consultation with their supervisor. In the grand final round, they competed with nine team from various universities such as Universitas Diponegoro (Undip), Universitas Pertamina, Universitas Airlangga, to Institut Teknologi Bandung.

“Hopefully, our study could contribute to finding and developing candidates for sars-cov-2 antiviral drugs based on local wisdom,” Adhie hoped.

This achievement encourages them to obtain another achievement in the next opportunity. They want to continue making UNS proud and motivate other students to continue to be productive amid the pandemic. Adhie also reminded his fellow students to never be tired of trying because efforts will not betray the results.

Marsco 2021 is a scientific writing competition held by Student Association in Marine Studies Undip. The post UNS Students Won 3^rd Place in National KTI for their Red Algae Study as Antiviral Drug Candidate appeared first on Universitas Sebelas Maret.

The students in Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) Grant of Geography Education team made Simo Village, Simo Subdistrict, Boyolali District as a Disaster Reliant Village. In the program held in three months from September to November 2021, the team helped in mapping the spread of Covid-19 in the village. Simo village was selected because it was the first village affected by the second wave of Covid-19 in the Boyolali District between July and August 2021. Since then, the local government has made numerous efforts, including vaccination in collaboration with TNI/Polri, to return their region into the green zone and control the Covid-19 infection level.

Determined not to let the same thing reoccur in the village, Simo Village continuously improving its system with the help from MBKM Grant Team UNS. Various activities were programmed by the 10-members team, including mapping of Covid-19 spread in the previous wave. The mapping includes location plotting with borders of hamlets, public facilities, and demographic data. The team created an administrative map for Simo Village, population density map, Covid-19 spread map, Covid-19 risk map, Covid-19 threat map, Covid-19 capacity map, and Covid-19 vulnerability map, as references for the village government in preventing and handling the current pandemic.

Aida Nur Azqiya, the team coordinator, thanked Simo Village for the collaboration and hoped that the program could continue in the future. The team supervised by Dr. Rita Noviani, S.Si., M.Sc., and Dr. Pipit Wijayanti, S.Si., M.Sc., also established Covid-19 volunteer group with Karang Taruna Desa Simo members through socialization on the mitigation of Covid-19 and counseling on Covid-19 Disaster Resistant Village by inviting the Regional Disaster Mitigation Board of Boyolali District.

The team also conducts training Serambi Tani for the local people to improve people’s economic resilience in facing natural and non-natural disasters. The program that is aimed at housewives and members of Simo Village PKK provides training for polybag planting methods for various plants such as eggplant, chili, and tomato that match Simo Village topography. The participants also learned to make liquid organic fertilizers (POC) from household wastes such as vegetables and fruits wastes, rice water, and microbial liquid. These materials were fermented to produce POC.

Simo Village Chief, Mujiono, S.Sos., shared his delight in the program and hoped that the program could run smoothly till the end. “As Simo Village Chief, I thanked all students for dedicating (your program) to our village. Hopefully, this program could benefit us,” Mujiono stated. Humas UNS

Bridge Construction Competition was held as a means to develop the competence of aspiring civil engineers by competing in strong and economic bridge planning. To uns.ac.id, Dimas explained that their bridge, Bhima Juwana, used a combination of arch and truss type bridges. This combination was sought to provide an aesthetic value of the bridge and minimize buckling, as well as the distribution of weight on the bridge arch. The team designed this bridge to be installed on Sudirman Sel 1 street, Bumirejo, Juwana Subdistrict, Pati District because it has an old and vulnerable bridge.

“The arch type has a bow-like shape while truss type has a geometric triangle shape. From both types, we combined so that the bridge has a bow but with a combination of triangle shapes on its design,” Dimas explained on Friday (26/11/2021).

The team also considers many aspects in their design to meet competition criteria to create a strong and efficient bridge. They also take into consideration the safety of the bridge through structure analysis to avoid failure from diverse conditions. The assessment was also supported with software modeling to strengthen their calculation. The sliding method is adopted after considering the efficiency of the construction process.

The team stated that they were happy with the result and thanked their supervisor, Dr. Eng. Halwan Alfisa Saifullah, S.T., M.T. “Hopefully in the future, more students could win similar achievement and make our UNS campus proud,” Dimas said.

The PHP2D Himatika FMIPA UNS Team Leader, Bayu Purboutomo, explained that the mushroom potential in Jatirejo Village is overabundant, but the majority of farmers sell their mushroom directly, while they could process the mushroom into various food products.

“Moreover, in the pandemic situation, many mushroom products cannot be stored for a long time without pre-processed,” Bayu Purboutomo explained to uns.ac.id team on Wednesday (24/11/2021).

Considering the large post-harvest potential of the mushroom, the Team proposed an upstream to downstream program for mushroom production that consists of pre-processing of mushrooms into processed products to product marketing training. The Team also developed the baglog wastes into organic fertilizer. Some of the already implemented programs are mushroom processing into crispy mushrooms in Mungon-Mojodipo Hamlet, Jatirejo Village. This program was proposed to PHP2D 2021 and was started with socialization on working capital lending from PT. BKK Jawa Tengah branch Karanganyar.

The mushroom processing process could increase local people’s income, while the socialization aims to explain various services provided by PT. BKK Jawa Tengah that support local people’s innovation in the mushroom processing industry. PHP2D Himatika FMIPA UNS Team also conducted the fertilizer production training from baglog in an online program through the Zoom Meeting platform in the same hamlet. Both processing and fertilizer production training was attended by the mushroom farmers group and program implementing team.

The fertilizer production training was opened with an explanation on mushroom cultivation dan organic fertilizer production by the Agricultural and Fishery Office of Karanganyar District represented by Feriana Dwi Kurniawati, S.P., M.Si. In this socialization, the office shared that Karanganyar District has a program to assist and facility for farmers through her office. The training also educates the local people on the environmental impact of mushroom cultivation and empower them to produce fertilizer from baglog.

After the training programs that took around five months, the Team launched Jare Jamur product on Sunday (21/11/2021) in Jatirejo Village Hall under the theme of “Kula Nuwun Jatirejo: Launching Produk Jare Jamur” (Excuse Me Jatirejo: Launching of Jare Jamur Product). The grand closing event started with product introduction followed by handover from the Head of Mathematics Program to the Chief of Processing and fertilizer team of Jatirejo people. Novianto Yoga Wibisono, the PHP2D HM Pelita UNS Team Leader, stated that the biofloc pond could be used to cultivate 2,500 catfish seeds. The wastewater from the ponds is used for fertilizer in cultivating organic water spinach by the pool. “The tools needed to build the pond are pond base framework, rice husk, sand, and cement,” he explained to the uns.ac.id team on Monday (22/11/2021).

The program received a positive response from the village government and all village people. Kragan Village Chief, Widada, S.E., stated that his village and its government fully support all the positive activities held in the village.

The construction process was supervised by Sapto and Sarjono as the person in charge of Kragan Village biofloc development. The construction started with building the biofloc pond with a diameter of 2.5 meters, filling the pond with water, left behind the water for a week before adding the catfish seeds to ensure that the water was purified.

The water is then filtered and channeled through a drip fertigation system to irrigate chili plants around the biofloc pond owned by Kragan Village. The irrigation was prepared using pipes, PE hose, faucet, aquarium pump, T pipes, and L pipes. All of the stages are to support the integrated farming program implemented beforehand. The team added a zero-waste concept the reduce farming wastes.

The programs were expected to be implemented by all village people, especially in the application of zero waste to support sustainable farming. Humas UNS

Segorogunung Village has potential in tourism and agricultural sectors, with tourism sectors well known among visitors. Tourism development requires supporting sectors such as culinary and souvenirs. Segorogunung Village potential that could be developed such as chayote. However, low creativity and innovation lead to a low-profit margin for the local community. Therefore, as an implementation of Higher Education Tri Dharma through community service and assisting local people in developing their local potential, the Diploma Program (D-3) of Agribusiness Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta in Student Association in Diploma Program of Agribusiness (Gamagrita) conducted empowerment program that focuses on local community business skills upgrade.

The program was implemented under the Rural Community Empowerment Program (P2MD) funded by the Directorate General of Vocational and Professional Higher Education Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) and the implementation of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka Program (MBKM) by directly assisting community members and develop students’ skills. In the implementation, the Team collaborated with the rural government, village-owned business (BUMDes) Mustika Lawu, and Women Farmers Group (KWT) Mawar. In five months, the Team has conducted diverse activities, such as “Scale-Up Local Rural Production Supporting Segorogunung Tourism Destination” training, chayote processing into chayote chips, risoles, brownies, and wingko, assistance in development progress and solution for issues that arise, and branding through packaging under “Sechi” brand.

The Team also established the Agrilawu Center as a center for incubation and sales of Segorogunung excellent products and tourism destination that provides photo spots with a “millennial colorful” theme. The center was officially opened and introduced on Thursday (11/11/2021), located south of the Segorogunung football field. The opening ceremony was attended by Ngargoyoso Subdistrict Chief Wahyu Agus Pramono, S.S.T.P., who appreciated the efforts made by the Team. “Thank you to Universitas Sebelas Maret academic members for helping in the development of Segorogunung Village. Hopefully, this event does not stop here, but could continue and develop,” he stated.

The ceremony was also attended by the representative from the Tourism, Youth, and Sports Office of Karanganyar District, Sarno S.Kar., as the Head of Tourism Marketing Development, who also welcomed the program and considered it to be in line with Karanganyar tourism vision in 2030. “We support this program as a small step in achieving Karanganyar tourism vision in 2030,” he stated.

Another appreciation was shared by the Dean of Vocational School UNS, Drs. Santoso Tri Hananto, M.Acc., Ak., showed his gratefulness for the success in P2MD program implementation. He also mentioned that collaboration among other programs is necessary for community development efforts. “So that, the output could be diverse and reach various elements of the rural community,” he added.

The Team also received thanks from Segorogunung Village Chief, Tri Harjono, S.Sos., for selecting his village as a community service location. “Thank you to P2MD Gamagrita Team led by Mbak Hilda and supervisor for helping this village development to be more advanced and independent in the future,” he said in his opening remark.

Hilda Sekar Wulandari, as Team Leader, also thanked all parties who helped her Team in implementing their programs. She also mentioned that she learned many things during the process. According to Rysca Indreswari, S.Pt., M.Si., as a team supervisor, the program is an appropriate means of knowledge transfer and implementation of what students learn because, as an agent of change, students need to observe and solve issues in the community.

In the opening ceremony, SV UNS also signed an agreement of collaboration with Segorogunung Village as assisted village and community service site for students. The event was also livened up by Afifah Nuha Prasiswi who sang modern Javanese songs. Humas UNS
