The AAS socialization session at UNS drew significant interest from attendees. Scholarships are always highly sought after, particularly by those aiming to further their studies. The AAS is a prominent scholarship program offered under the Australia Awards initiative, providing opportunities for citizens from participating countries in Asia, the Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa to study at Australian universities.

The Australia Awards Program in Indonesia continues a tradition of scholarship provision by the Australian Government that spans over 60 years. The goal of the Australia Awards in Indonesia is to enhance Indonesia’s development through the contributions of internationally qualified professionals and the establishment of strong and positive relations with Australia.

Since 1953, more than 9.000 Indonesian scholarship recipients have studied at Australian universities through both long-term and short-term programs, many of whom have gone on to hold leadership positions and make significant contributions to Indonesia’s development.

The Australia Awards in Indonesia offer two types of scholarships: postgraduate programs (Long Term Awards) and customized short-term intensive courses (Short Term Awards). Selected candidates receive scholarships through a competitive selection process. Successful graduates become part of the extensive and actively supported Australia Awards Global and Indonesian alumni networks.

Prof. Irwan Trinugroho, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., UNS Vice-Rector for Planning, Cooperation, Business, and Information, expressed his appreciation for the partnership between UNS and the Australian Government, represented by the Australian Consulate General in Surabaya. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in our mutual commitment to promoting cultural exchange, education, and mutual understanding.

“As a start, today we will have the Australia Awards Session and a Panel Discussion involving both Indonesian and Australian representatives. I hope this event will benefit future partnerships,” Prof. Irwan said.

One of the sessions, the AAS Info Session, provided extensive information about the Australia Awards Scholarship to the UNS academic community. The session featured Emily Whelan, First Secretary at the Australian Embassy Jakarta, and Tutik Rahaju, Scholarship Targeting Manager at Australia Awards Indonesia. Both speakers provided insights into the scholarship program for the attendees.

Emily Whelan explained that the AAS is a prestigious international award offered by the Australian Government to the next generation of global leaders to obtain Master’s or Ph.D. degrees from Australian universities. The scholarship has been a vital component of the Australian Government’s aid program in Indonesia since 1953. Through study, research, and networking, scholarship recipients develop skills and knowledge to drive change and help build enduring people-to-people links with Australia.

“The scholarship offers a range of benefits, including English language and academic support before studying in Australia. It also includes a series of professional development and networking activities that will enrich the scholars’ knowledge, experience, and networks before, during, and after their studies,” Emily Whelan explained.

Tutiek Rahaju added that the AAS aims to achieve gender equality among scholarship recipients and encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds. The scholarship is available to all Indonesians who have the potential to contribute positively to their country’s sustainable development. The scholarship also supports Equity Target Groups, which aim to address access barriers and reflect the development priorities of both governments. These groups include people with disabilities, women from disadvantaged backgrounds, and individuals from targeted provinces.

In addition to the scholarship information, the #AussieBanget University Roadshow included a panel discussion in collaboration with the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI). This session featured more speakers, including Jennifer Parker, Expert Associate at the National Security College, Australian National University; I Made Andi Arsana, S.T., M.E., Ph.D. from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Yogyakarta; and Dr. Randhi Satria, S.IP., M.A. from UNS. The panel discussion was moderated by Septyanto Galan Prakoso, S.IP., M.Sc. from the International Relations (HI) Study Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UNS.

The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Ir. Ahmad Yunus, M.S., the Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, who warmly welcomed PT IMIP’s engagement with UNS.

“This is a great opportunity, as representatives from the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment along with PT IMIP have come directly to UNS to provide insights into the mining and lithium battery industries, and to offer internships and scholarships to UNS students,” Prof. Yunus said in his opening remarks.

PT IMIP is one of the most successful downstream industry agencies in Indonesia. Achmanto Mendatu, HR Director of PT IMIP, expressed high hopes for UNS students to become the next generation of leaders in the downstream industry.

“We hope that the students from UNS will become part of the downstream industry family. PT IMIP is offering up to 500 internship positions and 200 scholarship opportunities both domestically and internationally,” Achmanto Mendatu said.

Bimo Wijayanto, Ph.D., Assistant Deputy for Strategic Investment at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, also delivered a guest lecture on “Developing Talents in the Mineral-Metal Downstream Industry Sector in Indonesia.”

“Indonesia is the world’s number one nickel commodity producer. Thus, accelerating the downstream processing of the metal mineral industry is key to Indonesia’s economic transformation. Our goal is to be part of the commodity super cycle,” Bimo explained.

To achieve this goal, it is essential to have human resources with skills such as computational thinking, analytical thinking, and technological literacy.

This initiative by PT IMIP also supports the success of Indonesia Emas 2045. The event was attended by more than 200 UNS students from related study programs, including mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, and many more.

Four speakers were invited to the webinar held through the Zoom Cloud Meeting platform, Aldi Dwi Saputra, S.Pd. (LPDP Awardee), Mipa Tiyasmala, S.Pd. (Mawapres UNS Awardee), and Natanael Feby R., S.Pd. and Fadhiya Inasarisa (Unggulan Scholarship Kemendikbud Awardee).

Aldi, the alumnus of Indonesian Language and Literature Education UNS, shared information on the requirements for LPDP scholarship, including completing the previous education stage, are not taking master or doctoral program while applying, attaching recommendations from the academic member for those who are not in employment and recommendation from supervisor for those who are working. “(And) selecting target university and program following the LPDP requirements,” he explained. Aldi also explained other requirements and suggested the participants access the full list of requirements in https://lpdp.kemenkeu.go.id/. Lastly, Aldi shared his tips during the selection process and suggested that participants start preparing their English from now.

“Become students with academic and non-academic characters, (join) organizations, and (collect) achievements. Quality is more than quantity; there is a quality in A-grade. Then, don’t forget to love your parents, pray, and share with others,” he added.

Mipa Tiyasmala also explained the scholarship that she won, a scholarship granted by UNS for its excellent graduates to continue their studies. She explained that the scholarship covers the tuition fees for four years and development fees. “The requirements for this scholarship are UNS last graduates, cum laude, taking linear study, and publish articles in Scopus indexed journals. All fees incurred after four years should be paid by students,” she explained.

The last two speakers, Natanael Feby and Fadhiya Inasarisa shared their tips with winning Unggulan Scholarship from Kemendikbud that is granted for the undergraduate to doctoral degree students each year. They suggested the participants look for information and fulfill all the administrative requirements to ask others about different scholarships. “Prepare an exciting personal statement in CV through showing off your potential, activities you participated in, achievements, and other things. A personal statement must match with yourself, don’t make up things, and use appropriate language,” Natanael concluded. Humas UNS

Prof. Jamal and Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs UNS, Prof. Ahmad Yunus, finalized the decision on a Master’s study scholarship for all the gold medalists in UNS in front of all students attending the ceremony offline and online. Previously, UNS only provided IDR 6 million assistance funds for gold medalists, IDR 4.5 million for silver medalists, and IDR 2.5 million for bronze medalists, followed by the exemption of thesis defense for all medalists. But in Tuesday (14/12/2021) ceremony UNS added a scholarship as a bonus.

“If gold medalists in Pimnas receive a scholarship, do you agree?” Prof. Jamal offered.

Once answered with silence, the participants accepted the offer in unison after the Rector repeated the question. Prof. Jamal tapped his desk to mark the agreement between the university and the medalists.

“This is a strategy to achieve the Key Performance Indicators (IKU) 1 because there are three indicators. First, finding a job six months after graduating, second continuing study. If you won gold, automatically, your Master’s Degree would be free, so we get an IKU point that graduates continue to study after graduation. Third, become an entrepreneur with minimum income of City Minimum Wage (UMK),” Prof. Jamal stated.

Inna Zuhriah Zain, a gold medalist from Pharmacy Program, stated that she is delighted with the decision.

“We are delighted. This appreciation answers our wish, especially to continue our study,” Inna stated. Humas UNS

The talkshow is the last event in the LPDP UNS Scholarship Socialization program. The first series of this event was a webinar on “Tips for Preparing Personal Statement and Essay on Contribution for Indonesia”. The LPDP UNS Awardee Association chairman, Danan Tricahyono, S.Pd., stated that he is delighted with the participant’s enthusiasm.

“This talkshow is the second series and the last this year. The first series was held on 1 June 2021,” he explained.

In the event attended 450 participants, the committee invited LPDP Alumni and Talent Management Team, Mohammad Kamiluddin, and two alumni of LPDP awardees, Aan Khosihan, S.Pd., M.Sos., and Dian Rachmatika, S.Pd., M.A., as speakers.

Kamiluddin shared the requirements and stages in the LPDP scholarship selection process and discussed all requirements that applicants need to prepare. He also gave suggestions and motivations for applicants to be optimistic that they could win the scholarship.

“Give your best effort. If your way is through LPDP, inshaAllah, you will win the scholarship. If your way is somewhere else, there is the best way for you somewhere,” he stated.

Aan Khosihan shared tips and tricks for interviews based on his experience. The Sociology Program UNS graduate shared his advice on what applicants need to prepare before, during, and after the interview. Aan also shared his journey to apply for an LPDP scholarship for National Universities.

The third speaker, Dian Rachmatika, also shared her success story with winning the LPDP scholarship for her master’s study at the University of Southampton, UK. The YouTuber popular with her stage name, Dira, shared the “7 Ways to Make Your Interview Outstanding”. Dira said that research is vital for the applicant when writing their essay and going through the interview process.

International Office Universitas Sebelas Maret (IO UNS) cooperates with ALFALINK held the scholarship socialization in Postgraduate Hall UNS, Tuesday (4/5/2016).  The event presented Imam Santoso as the speaker. Imam Santoso was the awardee of ADS (Australian Development Scholarship), which is now known as AAS (Australian Awards Scholarship). The socialization aimed to socialize about scholarship information for the college students who intend to get higher education abroad.

In the socialization, Imam Santoso enlightened the audience about the various kinds of scholarships based on their degrees such as LPDP and DIKTI. He explained the steps that should be taken for applying the scholarships. “The most important things to do are putting the field of study first, then you may choose the university, and finally complete the requirements needed.” Imam explained. Imam also gave the tips when studying overseas such as how to get part time job, adjust with the weather, and adapt with new environment. Besides arranging the administration documents, the students also have to actively pay attention on the unexpected things that might happen including the high living cost and cultural differences.

The chief of International Office UNS, Taufiq Almakmun emphasized the fact that nowadays the opportunities to get the scholarship for the students in any degrees are getting higher. “The scholarship nowadays are widely available for whoever wants to look for the related information. Therefore, this event aims to give the socialization for you who intends to continue your study.
