UNS — Two students of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta are selected to take part in the Indonesian team for the SEA Games 2022. The two students were Khoirudin Mustakim and Ashifa Helsa Ashuroh. These two students from the Faculty of Sports (FKOR) UNS will compete in different sports fields, where Khoirudin will compete in Pencak Silat, while Ashifa in diving. Both are currently in Vietnam, where the SEA Games 2022 is hosted.

When interviewed via Whatsapp, Ashifa claimed to have prepared to compete at the biggest sports event in Southeast Asia. The 19-year-old explained that she had been exercising intensely for two months before leaving for Vietnam. The diver from Banjarnegara Regency also revealed that she prepared not only physically but also mentally. With these provisions, Ashifa is optimistic about achieving the best results. “Hopefully, this year’s SEA Games can go smoothly, and we can get the best results,” said the year of 2021 student.

This is the first time Ashifa took part in the Indonesian contingent for the SEA Games. Until the day she was contacted by the @uns.official team, Ashifa still did not know on what branch number she would have to compete. However, Ashifa made sure that she would participate in the sprinter numbers.

Meanwhile, Khoirudin Mustakim will compete in Class B Male, Pencak Marat. When this news came down, Khoirudin made it to the finals. The Pencak Silat athlete from Klaten Regency will advance to the finals after defeating the host country’s representative. In a short interview via Whatsapp, Khoirudin decisively stated that he targeted to win a gold medal in the championship. He’s very confident in his abilities. “My personal target is a gold medal,” he stressed.

Khoirudin is selected to be one of the representatives in the Indonesian team for the SEA Games 2022 after becoming the XX PON Papua champion. Previously, Khoirudin had participated in the 2019 SEA Games in Manila, Philippines, and won a silver medal. Let’s support and pray for Khoirudin and Ashifa in the SEA Games 2022 from May 12-23, 2022. Humas UNS

UNS — A glorious achievement was made by a Pencak Silat fighter from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Khoirudin Mustakim. The student of the Faculty of Sport (FKOR) UNS won a silver medal at the Sea Games 31 Vietnam in Pencak Silat class B for 50-55 kg weight. In the final, Mustakim lost marginally to Malaysian Pencak Silat athlete with a final score of 49-50. Mustakim is grateful for this silver medal. However, he claimed he was still not satisfied with the results he had obtained. “I am grateful for these results, and perhaps it is not yet my turn to win a gold medal. Indeed, I was disappointed because I had led the score but made a mistake. Hopefully, in the next championship, I can give better results,” he said.

In the final against Malaysian martial artists, Mustakim had a lead score in the first and second half. In the decisive round, the third half, Mustakim also had a 9-point lead. However, due to a mistake made, Mustakim must receive a point deduction. Until the last second, even after he had tried all his Pencak Silat skills, his points remained one point behind the Malaysian athlete. “At the beginning, I had 9 points ahead, however, because of that 10-point reduction, the point was reversed, and I was left one point behind. When I wanted to close the point, the Malaysian contender kept on stalling to delay the time. I attacked, and he went outside the game arena, this happened twice, so, until time ran out, the points remained,” Mustakim explained.

Five Months Preparation

Mustakim’s journey to be selected as a representative in the Indonesian Pencak Silat team at Sea Games 31 was quite long. In 2021, Mustakim won gold in XX PON in Papua. Being a PON champion does not directly place Mustakim as the representative of Indonesia. This student from Klaten Regency must take special selection among other national athletes. In the special election held in December 2021, Mustakim won and was finally selected as the representative of Indonesia at the Sea Games 2021. After being selected, Mustakim underwent a centralized training and preparation at Padepokan Pencak Silat TMII, Jakarta. He was quarantined for five months before competing in Vietnam.

At the moment, Mustakim is preparing to take part in the world Pencak Silat championship, which is planned to be held in Malaysia mid of this year. In addition, he also focused on preparing for the Sea Games 2023 in Cambodia. Students of the 2018 class hope to get the best results in the two championships. It would be a beautiful gift for his beloved university. “For the future, I will prepare for the Sea Games Cambodia in 2023 and prepare for the world championship in Malaysia, since in three months, there will be a World Championship in Malaysia. I am preparing for the world championship first because it was the closest championship,” said Mustakim.

Congratulations, Mustakim! Hopefully, there will be another glorious achievement for Indonesia in the next championships. Humas UNS

UNS — Good news comes from the Sea Games 31 in Vietnam. Student of the Faculty of Sports (FKOR) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Ashifa Helsa Ashuroh received a silver medal in the Finswimming category, in the biennial regional multi-sport event. Ashifa won the silver medal in the 4×100m surface relay along with her three colleagues Vania Elfira Elent R, Andhini Muthia Maulida, and Janis Rosalita Suprianto. Other than the said number, the year of 2021 students also competes in the women’s 100m surface number. However, the result achieved by Ashifa is not yet favorable.

As a debutant, Ashifa claimed to be exhilarated with her and the team’s achievements in the relay category. In fact, this tournament was her first championship on an international level. “As a junior athlete and the first timer in an International event, I still can’t believe I won a silver medal. I am happy and moved to bring the Indonesia flag to the top of the podium,” she said.

The Indonesian team finished second, while Vietnam got first place. Ashifa became the first diver to win the initial 100m rounds, followed by Vania. After that, Janis followed as the third diver and was concluded by Andhini. The Indonesian team recorded a time of 2:47:66, which was 43 milliseconds longer than the Vietnam team, which finished at 2:47:23.

This result is quite encouraging given the long preparation and training. The diver from Banjarnegara Regency said that she and the team only had two months to prepare for the Sea Games held in Vietnam, mainly because the Finswimming branch is barely contested.

Ashifa says she will focus on training for next year’s Sea Games. She hopes to bring a gold medal for Indonesia the next year. “Hopefully, in the next Sea Games, we can bring the red and white flag to the middle podium,” she concluded. Humas UNS
