UNS – Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) visited Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS). The working visit took place in the UNS Tower on Thursday (20/2/2025). Vice Chair of Commission X DPR RI H. Lalu Hadrian Irfani, S.T., led the delegation.
UNS Overview and Student Admission System

UNS Rector, Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si., welcomed the delegation alongside Vice Rectors and Deans at the UNS Tower Ballroom. During his speech, he provided an overview of UNS and its role in higher education.

“UNS envisions itself as a center for the development of science, technology, and arts at an international level. At the same time, it remains rooted in national cultural values,” Prof. Hartono explained.

Currently, UNS has 14 faculties, one vocational school, and one postgraduate school, accommodating 76.153 students. A total of 1.980 lecturers and 1.831 administrative staff support the institution. Among the lecturers, 981 hold doctoral degrees, and as of December 2024, the university has 269 active professors.

Regarding student admissions, UNS implements three selection pathways:

National Selection Based on Achievement (SNBP)

National Selection Based on Test (SNBT)

Independent Selection (SM)

“As a State University with Legal Entity (PTNBH), UNS allocates at least 20% of seats for SNBP, 30% for SNBT. Meanwhile up to 50% for the Independent Selection,” Prof. Hartono explained.

He also urged prospective students and schools to carefully follow admission guidelines. “Negligence may lead to missing the opportunity to enroll,” he emphasized.

Commission X’s Visit and Key Discussions

Vice Chair of Commission X DPR RI, H. Lalu Hadrian Irfani, S.T., outlined the objectives of the visit. The delegation gathered factual data and identified challenges. They also ensured that the student admission system upholds fairness, accountability, transparency, and efficiency.

“This approach ensures equal access to higher education for all prospective students across Indonesia,” he stated.

The visit also included discussions with private universities in Solo Raya. Those were representatives from Universitas Slamet Riyadi (Unisri) and Universitas Tunas Pembangunan (UTP). Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) and Universitas Surakarta (Unsa) also participated in the event. They took part in discussions and shared their perspectives.

Additionally, Dr. Beny Bandanadjaja, S.T., M.T., the Director of Institutional Affairs at the Ministry of Education, attended the meeting. Dr. Uswatun Hasanah, S.Pd., M.Pd., the Head of the Central Java Provincial Education Office, was also present.

Lalu Hadrian Irfani invited private university representatives to voice their concerns, particularly regarding student admission policies. Their input will help shape future discussions between Commission X and the government.

UNS – The 2025 National Selection Based on Achievement (SNBP) has opened registration, running from February 4 to 18, 2025. Choosing the right university major is crucial, but selecting a suitable public university (PTN) is just as important. This article discusses strategies for successfully selecting and gaining admission to a PTN through the SNBP pathway.

Prof. Drs. Sutarno, M.Sc., Ph.D., is the Head of New Student Admissions Selection Office (SPMB) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta. He shared key strategies to help prospective students choose the most suitable PTN.

“Selecting a university requires a strategic approach. Most people consider a PTN’s reputation and achievements first. A university with outstanding accomplishments can instill pride in its students. However, the key is to choose wisely—based on interests, personal capabilities, and individual preferences,” Prof. Sutarno explained.

He advised students to research thoroughly by reviewing admission competitiveness and the number of applicants for specific programs. “Align your choice with your capabilities. If you are confident in your selection, proceed with the application. Otherwise, consider alternative options,” he added.

Prof. Sutarno emphasized that students accepted through SNBP cannot withdraw or apply through other admission pathways. “Students must carefully review the selection mechanism, available programs, and targeted universities. Another crucial factor is location. The cost of living varies by city, so discussing this with parents is essential,” he concluded.

During the 2025 Diploma and Undergraduate Admissions Socialization event at the G.P.H. Haryo Mataram UNS Auditorium on Tuesday (4/2/2025), Bekti Cahyo Hidayanto, S.Si., M.Kom., Executive Secretary of the National Selection for New Student Admissions (SNPMB), shared several key tips for successfully gaining admission to a PTN, especially through the SNBP pathway.

The 2025 Diploma and Undergraduate Admissions Socialization event took place at the G.P.H. Haryo Mataram UNS Auditorium on Tuesday (4/2/2025). Bekti Cahyo Hidayanto, S.Si., M.Kom., Executive Secretary of the National Selection for New Student Admissions (SNPMB), shared key tips for successfully gaining admission to a PTN through SNBP.

Key Strategies for SNBP Success

1. Understand SNBP Regulations

The first step to success in SNBP is understanding the applicable rules and policies. Official information is available on https://snpmb.bppp.kemdikbud.go.id/ and SNPMB’s official social media accounts. Relying on these sources helps avoid misinformation.

2. Analyze Report Card Scores

Review your report card scores to ensure consistency and assess which programs align with your academic strengths. This will help you gauge your chances of admission. Consult with your school counselor for guidance in selecting a major that matches your skills and interests.

3. Prepare an Outstanding Portfolio

Applicants for arts or sports programs must prepare a strong portfolio, a key assessment component in SNBP. Ensure your portfolio highlights your best work and meets the SNBP submission guidelines.

4. Keep Track of SNBP Deadlines

Meeting deadlines is crucial. Mark key dates such as registration, document submission, and announcement periods. Set reminders or place notes in visible locations to stay on schedule.

5. Complete All Registration Requirements

Ensure you fulfill all registration requirements. Review the list of necessary documents for your chosen program, prepare them carefully, and double-check everything before submission to avoid errors.
