Coaching Journey and International Experience

Coach Sofie’s career in coaching began in 2018 when he joined the Indonesian Women’s National Football Team. In 2019, he took on a new challenge with the U-19 national team under Coach Fachri Husaini’s guidance. His career then expanded internationally when he joined Malaysian Super League club Sabah FC. He worked there from 2019 to 2020.

His time in Malaysia became a crucial stepping stone. In 2021, he returned to Indonesia and joined Persis Solo. Now, he is back with the national team. He takes on the role of assistant physical coach for both the U-17 and senior squads.

Commitment to Education and Coaching Excellence

With extensive international experience, Coach Sofie continues to refine his expertise. He holds an AFC A coaching license and an AFC Fitness Level 2B certification. However, he believes that experience and certification alone are not enough. Understanding sports science is essential, which motivated him to pursue a Master’s degree at UNS.

“Studying Sports Science at UNS benefits my coaching career immensely. A coach must grasp sports science principles because we work with human beings. At the very least, we need to apply knowledge of physiology, kinesiology, and statistics,” Coach Sofie explained.

He emphasized that a strong foundation in sports science enhances an athlete’s performance. A coach must not only master football strategies and techniques but also communicate physical activities effectively using scientific methods.

“As coaches, we don’t just train. We must also explain every activity scientifically to educate players,” he added.

Balancing Coaching and Academic Pursuits

Despite his packed schedule, Coach Sofie remains dedicated to completing his studies at UNS. Currently preparing for his thesis defense, he hopes to graduate soon. Looking ahead, he aims to pursue a doctoral degree while continuing his national duties. He stresses the importance of lifelong learning, especially as sports science evolves alongside technological advancements.

“I aim to keep learning and never settle for the knowledge I have. Knowledge constantly evolves. Read and read,” he urged.

Hopes for Indonesian Football

As a key figure in the Indonesian national team’s coaching staff, Coach Sofie envisions a bright future for Indonesian football. He encourages all Indonesians to support the national team in international competitions.

“Let’s continue supporting Garuda Indonesia as it soars to the highest level—the World Cup,” he concluded.

Prof. Jamal stated that the socialization of Perpres No. 86/ 2021 was held to discuss the national sports development plan dreamed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) Joko Widodo (Jokowi) so that the national athletes could compete at the international level.

“DBON is a guideline on the direction and policies in the training and development of national sports in the long terms and integration and collaboration to improve the national competitiveness at international sports,” Prof. Jamal stated.

In the presence of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Menpora) RI Zainudin Amali, Mayor of Surakarta Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and the Chairman of National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Indonesia Senny Marbun, Prof. Jamal hoped that DBON would promote the perception between the central and local government in developing the national sports.

This aims to ensure the training and assistance for athletes from potential sports that continue giving medals for Indonesia in the Olympiad, Paralympics, and other championships.

“This grand design targets Indonesian athletes to compete with athletes from other countries in the Olympiad and Paralympic that year,” Prof. Jamal stated.

The Rector also hoped that Perpres No. 86/ 2021 become the main motor for the development of national sports as a source of the national economy, especially in integrating the sports and tourism sector.

The socialization of DBON opened by Prof. Jamal was scheduled for 28-30 November 2021.

The event was attended by 126 participants from the managers of sports at provincial and district/municipal level in Central Java, academic representatives, managers of sports teachers’ association at provincial and district/municipality in Central Java, and managers of the association at provincial and district/municipality in Central Java.

The socialization included an introduction on DBON, Kemendagri, Kemenpora, Ministry of PUPR, and Kemendikbudristek, the grand design of sports achievements, the grand design of national sports, and recreational sports.

This championship, titled Viva La Liga, has run for a week since 14-22 November 2021 and aims to build a stronger relationship between the two undergraduate programs in FT. To uns.ac.id, the chief of the managing committee, Waskito Agung Pambudi, and Wastu Widya stated that this competition was open for all students in Architectural Engineering and PWK program.

“Architectural Engineering and PWK learning process was held in one building, so to build a better relationship with one another. Moreover, it is now a transition from online learning to offline learning,” Waskito stated.

Wastu Widya added that the program was an annual agenda held by both student associations, but due to the pandemic in 2020, the program was canceled.

“Lastly, it was held in 2019, but due to the pandemic, it was held again in 2021,” she added.

The competition was held online and offline at Bengawan Sport, Solo. Waskito hoped that this program could build a better relationship among students in both programs. Viva La Liga also aims to provide a means for students to show off their skills in sports and arts. Humas UNS

The general lecture was also attended by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, who also delivered an opening remark in the general lecture. Prof. Jamal stated that in the national anthem, there is a phrase (bangunlah jiwanya bangunlah badannya) that indicates that a strong and reliable nation should have the strength in souls, body, and religiosity that are equal.

“This is the strategic role of sports in building the quality, excellent and whole, human resources. Sports have a strategic contribution in creating healthy Indonesia with a strong character, and excelled at the global level in line with the grand vision of national sports,” Prof. Jamal mentioned in this remark.

The Operational Chief of BCA Branch Solo, Agustin, shared their pride in getting involved in the general lecture. Agustin hoped that this kind of event could create a positive sports climate that was stopped because of the pandemic. Unfortunately, the Menpora, Dr. Zainudin Amali, could not attend the event.

In his discussion, Dr. Sapta Kunta shared that in maintaining the immune system, a person needs to prepare a program that correlates with aerobic activities with a pulse as its main indicator.

“Aerobic capacity is correlated with a pulse. If, before training, someone needs to measure their aerobic capacity, it will be complicated. That is why researches on the correlation between aerobic capacity and pulse need to be studied. The pulse is detected from the maximum aerobic capacity,” he explained.

Dr. Sapta Kunta also added that the suggested aerobic training frequency is between three and five days a week, including walking, light cycling, slow dancing, jogging, running, spinning, high impact gymnastic, swimming, basketball, tennis, football, hiking, and other sports.

“For first-timers, continuous activities for 10 minutes. Gradually to 30 minutes of aerobic exercise/day, total, target 60–150 minutes/week. Then continue up to 30-60 minutes/day, a total of 150-200 minutes/week. For intermediate, moderate activity can be 30-90 minutes/day, total 200-300 minutes/week,” he added. Humas UNS
