The UNS Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Ahmad Yunus, in front of the students, reiterated that UNS does not tolerate violence in the campus environment. “Once again, I reiterate that UNS does not tolerate any form of campus violence, whether perpetrated by education support staff, lecturers, students, and Student Organizations,” explained Prof. Yunus.

For this reason, UNS entirely hand over the inquiries and investigations process to the Police. “We leave everything to the Police. Until now, UNS has also not received the results of the late Gilang Endi Saputra’s autopsy,” added Prof. Yunus.

In this case, UNS has also formed an Evaluation Team for the Korps Mahasiswa Siaga Batalyon 905 UNS. “The Evaluation Team for the Korps Mahasiswa Siaga Batalyon 905 UNS is reviewing various sources to obtain data related to this incident,” said Prof. Yunus.

Meanwhile, the Korps Mahasiswa Siaga Batalyon 905 UNS Evaluation Team Leader, Dr. Sunny Ummul Firdaus, said that currently, the team is working to obtain data to uphold justice. “We work based on data, not on guesswork and assumptions. UNS continues to support the Police investigation process for this incident by coordinating and fully cooperating in terms of providing information and facilitating the smooth inspection process conducted by the Police to students and lecturers or education staff related to this incident. UNS fully trusts the professionalism of the Police in the ongoing investigation process and really hopes for the disclosure of the real facts; thus, the truth and justice will be truly upheld,” said Dr. Sunny. The Rector also emphasized yet again that UNS handed the investigation process to the police and that UNS fully supported the investigation process of the case to uphold truth and justice for all parties.

“Thus, UNS fully support and cooperate with the investigation process conducted by the police officer, in this case, Investigation Team from Surakarta Police Office,” Prof. Jamal said.

The support and cooperation are provided through giving all possible access for the investigation team to acquire needed documents, to check related locations in UNS, and questions UNS students, faculty members, and academic staff.

Gilang Endi Saputra’s parent, Sunardi, welcomed the visit from UNS Rector and entourage. “Thank you for visiting our home. We greatly appreciate the investigation performed by Surakarta and Central Java Police Offices and for the identification of suspects. The family fully supports the investigation processes performed by the police,” Sunardi stated.

To the journalist in the latest Press Release, Wednesday (3/11/2021), Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho offered his condolences for the loss of Gilang Endi Saputra in Ditlatsar Menwa UNS on 24 October 2021. Prof. Jamal deeply regrets the incident.

“UNS stands (on this matter) is clear, (we) support the investigation and adjudication on this case, so that truth and justice are withheld for all parties. Therefore, UNS is supportive and cooperative with the current investigation process conducted by the police, in this case Investigating Team from Surakarta Police Office,” Prof. Jamal stated.

The support and cooperation from UNS are implemented through providing the widest possible access to the Investigating Team to acquire all needed documents, investigate all relevant locations in UNS, and call any student, faculty member, and academic staff to be questioned by the Team. The Rector also stated UNS provided a legal advisory team for students, faculty members, and academic staff, questioned by police to ensure that their legal rights were met during the process.

The university also maintains close communication with Gilang Endi Saputra’s family through visits to provide moral supports for the family who live in Karangpandan. The visits also serve as a means to listen to the family’s aspirations and feelings that they would like to share.

“On 30 October 2021, family representative and student representatives from BEM UNS had a meeting with UNS executive board, represented by Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Director of Academic Reputation and Student Affairs, and Chief of Evaluation Team for UKM Korps Mahasiswa Siaga Batalyon 905 Jagal Abilawa UNS. In the meeting, UNS executive board accepted the aspirations from the family and student representatives,” Prof. Jamal said.

UNS also offered healthcare assistance, especially psychological assistance for the family, who welcomed the offer. The Rector of UNS assigned a team led by dr. I Gusti Bagus Indro Nugroho, Sp.K.J., M.Kes., for this task and the schedule for assistance and counseling will be discussed further with the family members. In the university, internal evaluation started with the formation of the Evaluation Team by the UNS Rector on 25 October 2021 through Rector UNS Assignment Letter Number: 4461/UN27/KP/2021. The Team has a duty to review all aspects of student association management in UNS starting from UKM Korps Mahasiswa Siaga Batalyon 905 Jagal Abilawa before moving to other student associations.

“From the early review, the Evaluation Team has recommended to freeze UKM Korps Mahasiswa Siaga Batalyon 905 Jagal Abilawa UNS. The decision was regulated through Rector UNS Decision Number 2815/UN27/KH/2021 dated 26 October 2021,” the 8^th UNS Rector explained.

The Evaluation Team continues its work by reviewing all relevant documents and interviewing students and student association supervisors. The review process is running, and the Team continuously cross-checks the information to ensure the validity of the information they received. Following the UNS student’s action in front of dr. Prakosa Building UNS on Monday (1/11/2021), UNS provided options for students who have data and information surrounding the violence that occurred in all student associations in UNS. This information was shared by the Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs UNS, Prof. Ahmad Yunus, Tuesday (2/11/2021).

“For those who have data and supporting information, please open it to the team as a consideration in the evaluation,” Prof. Yunus stated.

The Executive Board of UNS appointed a member from the evaluation team from the Faculty of Medical Science (FK), Chief of Academic Bureau and Student Affairs, and Vice-Dean 1 of Vocational School (SV) UNS, to meet Gilang Endi Saputra’s family to provide health care assistance for the family members on Monday (1/11/2021).

“The Team from UNS met Sunardi, the victim’s father, and three family members. The victim’s family welcomed our offer for assistance. Regarding the schedule for the assistance/counseling, they will coordinate with family members who need it,” he added.

The evaluation team also keeps monitoring the development of the incident reporting in the mass and social media. Including the upload in @putri_yudianti Twitter account on the Menwa incident in 2013, which was used by the students as a basis for the solidarity actions.

On Monday (1/11/2021) UNS Academic and Student Bureau, Drs. Rohman Agus Pratomo has contacted the account owner to hold a discussion with the evaluation team regarding the information she shared in her account, but @putri_yudianti has not expressed her willingness. Humas UNS

The collective prayer ceremony includes Al-Qur’an Surah Yasin recitation followed by collective prayers. The Rector of UNS Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, S.H., M.Hum., in his opening remark, offered his condolences for the death of Gilang Endi Saputra, a student of Diploma Program in Health and Company Hygiene and Work Safety (K3) Vocational School (SV) UNS.

As the executive board of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho apologized to the family for the death of Gilang Endi Saputra on Sunday (24/10/2021). The executive board of UNS and all academic members never justify the actions that go against the existing norms.

“The executive board of UNS agreed to hand all of the processes to the police to investigate the incident promptly according to the prevailing regulation and could identify who should be held responsible (for the incident),” Prof. Jamal Wiwoho stated.

Gilang Endi Saputra’s parents thanked UNS academic members and students who had attended the ceremony directly. The family asked attendees to pray and forgive Gilang Endi Saputra’s mistakes during his lifetime if any. Humas UNS

Dr. Sutanto stated that the university is not just saddened by the death of Gilang Endi Saputra in Diklat Menwa on Sunday (24/10/2021). He also emphasized that it enraged him and campus should provide safety for its academic members and not pose a danger to its students.

“We emphasized that UNS does not tolerate all forms of violence in the campus (activities). Currently, we prepared a team to evaluate and investigate the case. The law enforcement process is fully handed to the police,” Dr. Sutanto explained on Tuesday (26/10/2021).

Currently, the university closes the Menwa UNS secretariat. “We close and lock (the secretariat), and the key is handed to the supervisor,” Sutanto said.

In any event that the investigation finds proof of negligence and violence to the victim, the university will take strict action.

“There will be clear punishment. We have normative regulations in the university. If it is indeed negligence or even intentional and was performed collectively in the institution, we will take strict action. This is related to human life,” Sutanto emphasized.

The Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs UNS, Prof. Ahmad Yunus, added that UNS had stopped all physical activities after the incident. “We are currently suspending all physical activities in and outside the campus, including Mahasiswa Pecinta Alam (Mapala) (student association for nature lovers). Prof. Ahmad Yunus offered his condolences over the death of Gilang Endi Saputra, a student of the Diploma Program Health and Company Hygiene and Work Safety (K3) of Vocational School (SV) UNS. The university has kept coordinated with the family and police in handling the incident.

“On Sunday evening, we delivered the body to the family. Monday morning (25/10/2021), with the policy, we met the family, especially his mother and father, and the family members agreed for an autopsy at the Regional Public Hospital (RSUD) dr. Moewardi Surakarta. Around 10.00, we bought the body from Karangpandan to Moewardi. (After) arriving there, the autopsy was performed by a physician from Moewardi and forensic doctor from Bhayangkara Polri,” Prof. Yunus explained.

After the Ashar prayer on Monday (25/10/2021), after the autopsy, the body was cleaned by the hospital team and delivered to the family. The university provided continuous assistance until the funeral was completed.

“The results of the autopsy are waiting from the policy report. UNS handed all conclusions of the incident to the official report from the police. Whether it is an accident or an element of alleged violence,” Prof. Yunus added.

Dr. Sutanto, who also attended the press conference, stated that UNS and the police have processed the crime scene (TKP) in the campus and Jurug bridge. All of the 21 managing committees in the event were also had been questioned by the police.

“The managing committee, 21 students, seniors, and supervisor, all had been questioned. UNS fully handed all the investigation processes to the authority,” Dr. Sutanto explained. HUMAS UNS
