The four journals are Bestuur Journal, managed by FH UNS, which achieved Quartile 1 with an SJR of 0.38 in the subject area of Law. The Biodiversitas Journal, managed by FMIPA, in the subject area of Animal Science and Zoology, reached Quartile 2 with an SJR of 0.35. The Caraka Tani: Journal of Sustainable Agriculture, managed by FP UNS, in the subject area of Agricultural and Biological Sciences (miscellaneous), achieved Quartile 2 with an SJR of 0.34. Lastly, the Journal of Sains Tanah: Journal of Soil Science and Agroclimatology, also managed by FP UNS, in the subject area of Soil Science, reached Quartile 3 with an SJR of 0.24.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Mujiyo, S.P., M.P., Head of the Journal Development Implementation Unit (UPPJ) at the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) UNS, stated that the rankings in 2023 indicate that three journals have improved their Quartiles. The Bestuur Journal, previously in Quartile 3, rose to Quartile 1. The Biodiversitas Journal, previously in Quartile 3, rose to Quartile 2. The Caraka Tani: Journal of Sustainable Agriculture, previously non-quartile, rose to Quartile 2. Additionally, Sains Tanah: Journal of Soil Science and Agroclimatology experienced an increase in its SJR value.

He expressed that these achievements are very proud moments for the UNS academic community. This success also motivates other academic journal managers within UNS to develop and achieve international indexing.

This library is located at a very strategic place since it is close to an Elementary School (SD), Al Qur’an Education Group (TPA), the village’s field, community mosque, and the Sewurejo Village Health Center (PKD). When interviewed by uns.ac.id, Elli Setianingsih, a member of the MBKM team, said that previously there was no library or reading spot in the village. “In Sewurejo, there are bookshelves displayed in the village head’s office already, but the display has no supporting facilities yet. Therefore, we from the UNS MBKM Program team built a library on vacant land under coordination with the Head of Sewurejo Village. Additionally, children literacy culture in this village is sparsely distributed,” she said on Sunday (23/1/2022).

The UNS MBKM team consisted of 10 (ten) students. Six students, Elli Setianingsih, Hania Andriani, Fadilah Mutia Latifah, Mochamad Charis, Chusnul Nurjannah, and Niqmah Ida, are from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP). The other four, Adin Slamet R. from the Faculty of Agriculture (FP), Bella Sofie A. from the Faculty of Art and Design (FSRD), as well as Sansan N. and Budi Priyanto R., are from the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB). The team was under Feri Setyowibowo, Ph.D., during the program implementation.

Besides building the library, the team also provides the reading material to support the library. Moreover, they also open a donation to collect books, money, and library supporting equipment. Currently, there are quite diverse books available in the library, ranging from textbooks, general science, children’s reading books, fiction and non-fiction books.

“To introduce the library to the wider community, we held a launching ceremony. We also plan various programs, such as routine activities in the library starting from educational recreation, tutoring, comparative studies, and many others,” added the student from the Economics Education Study Program.

Concluding the interview, Elli hopes that the library can be managed properly and will be beneficial for the people of Sewurejo Village. Humas UNS

In his remarks, the Dean of FIB UNS, Prof. Dr. Warto, M. Hum., appreciate this initiative. According to him, this event will provide various insights for FIB students regarding MBKM grants. “My gratitude goes to Dr. Sutanto for providing valuable information regarding the MBKM grant, thus, we can make appropriate preparation for MBKM participation and improve FIB UNS quality in the future,” said Prof. Warto.

Through an interesting and clear presentation, Dr. Sutanto reveals that students have the freedom to choose from the 8 (eight) out of campus MBKM programs. “There are eight types of activities, namely, student exchanges, internships, thematic student community service, entrepreneurship, independent studies, teaching assistance, humanitarian activities, research, and specifically for UNS is National Defense,” he explained.

Dr. Sutanto also explained that the MBKM grant aims to ensure credit recognition from the students’ activities as part of the completion of the study (equivalent to 20 credits). “This program was launched to encourage study programs in accelerating the availability of MBKM schemes in line with the program’s characteristics and competencies, with guaranteed credit recognition. On the other hand, students’ creative ideas in conducting the MBKM activities can also be accommodated,” added Dr. Sutanto.

The material presentation from Dr. Sutanto was concluded with information regarding the Indobarter program initiated by UNS students in several traditional markets in the Solo area. The ‘Labuh Nagari was initiated and hosted by Himaters UNS under the theme “Spread Awareness, Create Togetherness.” This activity was initiated in response to the will of the Head of Himaters, Sanggam Napitupulu, who wished for a community service activity that also serves as a farewell ceremony for the past tenure Himaters Administrator.

He admitted that the economic gap between rural and urban communities become one of the supporting reasons for this community service program. “The economic gap between urban and rural communities is one of the causative factors for this idea. Moreover, the SDN (t/n: elementary school) 2 Tlogolele that we visited was still using the face-to-face learning system due to signals constraints and lack of virtual education equipment owned by the students. Additionally, community reading interest is still very low. At the same time, most of them (the students) only planned to pursue the junior high school or high school education, because of family economic conditions. Hence, we are interested in conducting a community service to teach the students, as well as various other social services in the community schools and the village in general,” said Rizaldi Uyun Anafi’ as the managing committee for the event to the uns.ac.id team on Monday (17/1/2022).

This activity requires participants to collect staple food packaged, to be distributed to the village residents, as well as second-hand clothes that are suitable to be donated or sold at a low price. The three days and two nights activity focused on the teaching and learning activities. While the social service program was conducted on the second day, Saturday.

Furthermore, he also provide the mechanism of teaching and learning activities. “We start the teaching and learning program at seven in the morning until twelve in the afternoon, for the materials taught are an introduction to cities and professions, Javanese arts, introduction to the environment and interaction with others, and several other materials. In the afternoon, we divided the participants into two groups: the first group was assigned to teach at the TPA (Taman Pendidikan Al-Quran), while the second group managed the Bazaar. The clothes sold in the bazaars were set at ten thousand rupiah to twenty-five thousand rupiah at a price,” he said.

Forty UNS International Relations (HI) Study Program students participated in this program and were assigned to various duties. The Labuh Nagari Program received a good response from the SD N 2 Tlogolele students and the village residents. The residents considered the arrival of UNS students to teach could bring new insights to Tlogolele students regarding the possibility of success in the future. The village residents even hope that the Labuh Nagari activities between Himaters and Tlogolele Village, especially Duluh Gumuk Rejo, can be a continuous program. They explained that there is not much community service in Tlogolele Village, which also involves residents in their activities.

Meanwhile, the committee faces only small obstacles during the program implementation. According to Uyun, not all of the UNS participants are from Surakarta, thus, some participants have not been able to take part in this activity directly. Additionally, there is a language barrier in Tlogolele Village, where the majority of the residents prefer to use Formal Javanese language, while not all participants are from Java, which inhibits the communication between the committee and residents. In his speech, Budi expressed his appreciation to UNS for choosing Purworejo Regency to be one of the regions for Student Community Service implementation. “Universities have an important role as a driving force for the success of regional government programs. Students have extensive knowledge of technology advancement. Therefore, they are expected to drive innovation for the community. Thematic Student Community Service is an effective and educative media for students to learn, by assigning then directly into the community, thus, allowing them to experience different social life,” he said.

Budi, who represents the Regent of Purworejo, added that students could capture various problems in the community. Therefore, hopefully, there will be an interaction between students and the local community. Through collaboration among the students and community, a partnership can be established and contribute to the accelerated development.

In his opening remark, the Minister stated that KKN is a means for students to serve the community and provide an opportunity for students to practice their learning outcomes on the campus as a practical implementation that benefits the local people. He observes that the strength of the educational institution is on their benefits for the community. Higher Education Tri Dharma must be implemented in villages with diverse typologies to detect real issues in the rural areas. The Minister also stated that research needs to be expanded to create applied technology.

“Applied technology is expected to improve rural commodities and rural people’s productivity,” he stated.

Kemendes PDTT formed a forum for universities for villages named Pertides to accelerate village development. The Minister explained that Pertides is a means for a campus in assisting, improving human resources quality, and rural economy to grow evenly. In this effort, Pertides also ensure the sustainability of rural culture. Gus Halim, the Minister, stated that KKN could find relevance, and university students could act as an innovator that distributes the university’s excellence to the local people. KKN students also could act as the executors of the university’s inventions into applied technology that benefits local people.

“KKN should not only be defined as a mechanical and static activity. Or even only to meet credit requirements,” Gus Halim stated.

He reminded the importance of KKN for universities to find the most effective communication strategies and technical adaptation to ensure that university invention could be accepted by local people. Students will find various conditions in their location that require adaptation both for social life and their learning outcomes. For the Minister, KKN is a hope for changes for the local people following the 18 Rural SDGs.

“We have a high expectation that UNS KKN Thematic could support the acceleration of rural development to achieve 18 Rural SDGs,” he hoped.

LMK 2021 was held by the Student Executive Board (BEM) of Faculty of Engineering Universitas Sriwijaya, Palembang. Various universities send their students to participate in the competition, such as Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Universitas Indonesia (UI), Universitas Sriwijaya, and Universitas Diponegoro, with a total of 50 teams.

To uns.ac.id team, Tegar and Fadillah Rizky stated that they participated in LKM 2021 because they were interested in the theme, renewable energy. “I like the theme, renewable energy. Therefore, I discuss renewable energy topic as an increasingly developed national issue,” Tegar stated.

By participating in the competition, Tegar and Fadillah Rizky also wanted to enrich their experience in the scientific writing field. Their work discussed the installation of a biogas reactor from fish wastes in the coastal area. In their work, Tegar and Fadillah conducted a deep analysis of the economic condition of the coastal community that could be improved with the installation of a biogas reactor.

“Thus, indirectly, the partners in marines and fisheries business that apply this biogas reactor will benefit from (the system),” Tegar explained.

In preparing the essay, Tegar was inspired by his tutor in High School. Tegar and Fadillah Rizky also admitted that they did not expect that they would win 1^st place because both of them are students of Historical Science Program FIB UNS and participated for the first time.

“I was surprised because, for the essay, we were in 10^th place according to the score. And after the presentation, we won 1^st place. Very surprised because we did not have an experience in scientific writing, especially essay,” Tegar stated.

In the future, Tegar and Fadillah Rizky want to explore their potential in writing, especially in renewable energy topics. Tegar also admitted that he wants to collaborate with students from other programs to conduct research that will bring a proud name for UNS at the national and international levels. Humas UNS

In the online competition with the “Investment Alternative and Saving Methods in Millennials Era” theme, Farrel, who was supervised by Amad Saeroji, S.S. M.Sc., was interested in participating in the competition because it was a prestigious competition.

“At first (I was) pessimistic because the participants were quite many with great works, but with courage and determination, finally participated in the competition,” Farrel stated to uns.ac.id team on Friday (24/12/2021).

Farrel submitted a work that discusses the importance of investing from early age and saving. He also shared the need to be careful in making an investment to prevent the community from being trapped in fake investments. His videos took three days to complete from the production process, scenario writing, storyboard development, video take, and editing. He competed with hundreds of other teams from all around Indonesia, and he was strongly moved by the result.

“I was so moved because I could win two different competitions because truthfully I was pessimistic with the work I made, but with maximum efforts and prayers, Alhamdulillah (I) could get the best result,” Farrel stated.

He hoped that in the future, he could be more productive and inspire more people with his works. Humas UNS

In his opening remark, Prof. Munawir, as the Chief of PSD LPPM UNS, explained that the phone credits provided for the students with disability aim to support their online learning process. Prof. Munawir also explained that the assistance is the follow-up of the 2020 program as a part of the annual assistance program. Assistances were also provided for prospective students before registration to UNS, during the learning process, and their need for scholarship and learning facilities.

“Alhamdulillah to this day, all students with disability in UNS feel comfortable during the learning process. Some even continued their study to the Master degree and succeeded in completing their study in UNS,” Prof. Munawir stated.

Besides the grants, PSD LPPM UNS also conducted an international seminar on “Utilization of Assistive Technology in Assessment of Learning for Autism” online through the Zoom Cloud Meeting application on Tuesday (7/12/2021). The international seminar was held by Special Education Program (PKh), PSD LPPM UNS, and Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) and was opened directly by Prof. Munawir Yusuf, M.Si. The seminar was participated by around 250 participants from faculty members, teachers of Inclusive Education Institution (SPPI), teachers of Early Childhood Education (PAUD), and teachers of Special Education School (SLB).

In his remark, Prof. Munawir underlies the use of assistive technology for people with disabilities as mandated by Law Number 8 of 2016 regarding People with Disability and Law Number 13 of 2020 regarding appropriate accommodation. Further, Prof. Munawir also emphasized the importance of research on assistive technology, especially for students with autism. Six speakers were invited to the seminar. Prof. Gunarhadi from PKh UNS delivered material on assessment and the use of technology in PKh, Dr. Joko Yuwono from PKh UNS shared materials on “Model Development of Digital Assessment for Autism,” and Prof. Dr Faaizah Shahbodin from UTeM discussed the “Assistive Learning Technologies.”

The other speakers are Nor Azmidy bin Ismail from Guru Cemerlang Pendidikan Khas/Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Beruang Melaka Malaysia, who discussed the material on “Speedline Math Adventure Mobile Game for Special Education,” Zareena Rosli from Politeknik Merlimau Melaka who discussed the “Enhancing Mathematics Learning Using Virtual Reality,” and Suriawati Suparjoh from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia who shared materials on “Mobile Augmented Reality as a Learning Engagement Tool for Children with ASD.” This program shows UNS’ commitment as an inclusive campus that will continue improving its performance for disability-friendly services. To the uns.ac.id team, Abyan explained that the Masjiduna application was designed to accommodate the needs of the Muslim community abroad and in the country by promoting the two ways approach between mosque and the community. The community is expected to be facilitated in accessing the information, knowledge, and essential functions of a mosque holistically from the social, economy, and education. The application allows people to find mosques in their environment and to find the nearest mosque during their travel.

“While Masjiduna for Marbot allows mosque managers (marbot) to access various features in managing mosque and conducting progressive activities in maximizing the services from the mosque for its congregations,” Abyan stated.

He added that Masjiduna is also designed to assist the Muslim community in developing a more productive, knowledgeable, and help each other through the available features. At the macro level, Masjiduna also facilitates the formation of the halal industry in Indonesia and globally through mosque digitalization in supporting Muslim progressiveness through coordination and better interaction. With synergy between the App for Marbot and App for Jamaah, the creators hoped for a positive impact from the process to a better direction for the Muslim community and its positive impact on the heterogeneous environment.

Acacia is a system designed and developed as a waste management system at the community level that meets the sustainable socio-economic and environmental principles. This app functioned as a system that aims to reduce the number of unprocessed wastes in Indonesia, especially household wastes, through the reuse, reduce, recycle mechanism. Abyan explained that their system is different from other similar systems because it promotes social aspects besides the environmental aspects. Through Acacia, the team pursues the creation of a new trend in managing household wastes through ‘turning wastes into goodness’ that allow people to manage their wastes while donating the results of wastes management.

Abyan also shared that he and his team are interested in application development because they are aware of the offered opportunity that could create goodness for society through technology. During their development progress, the team also conducted a feasibility test by participating in an international conference because they hoped for international-level impact. The competition also serves as a bridge for the team in evaluating and completing their development process in achieving maximum results.

“Alhamdulillah, we received several awards from some competition. Masjiduna received Gold Medal International Avicenna Youth Science Fair (IAYSF) 2021 in Iran last October and Silver Medal International Invention and Innovation Competition (I3C) 2021 in Malaysia last November. While for Acacia, we received the Bronze Medal World International Competition and Exhibition (WICE) 2021 in Malaysia last September and the Bronze Medal International Science and Invention Fair (ISIF) 2021 last October,” Abyan explained.

In developing both applications, Abyan and friends experienced challenges that were demanded to find a solution for the issues and translate it into application features. The hardest was when they needed to perfect the concept to be implemented in their application. Therefore, during the development process, they focused on the impact, problem-solving, validity, and relevance of the ideas. “Whether it is really relevant in the community and whether it creates full benefits or only little benefits,” he added.

Their app development has prepared for the future prospects, future income and is looking for investors. The team also continuously develops and perfects their initial concept through research on users’ needs. Abyan stated that they plan to launch their concept as a startup in the near future.

“Insyaallah, in the near future, we will realize the concept into a new startup that aims to bring a great impact for the users, and we want to invite our stakeholders to participate in realizing this project,” Abyan explained.

Abyan concluded the interview with his inspiration ‘Do not let our youth pass without impressive works.’ “Don’t try to impress people but try to impact, because the impression will be lost and impact will survive.” Humas UNS
