In his visit to UNS, a unique moment occurred when he suddenly entered a classroom and made FEB UNS students who participated in the PTM surprised. Students who participated through the Zoom Cloud Meeting were also surprised by the Major appearing in their gadget monitors. This moment occurred in the Introduction to Macroeconomic course taught by Prof. Izza Mafruhah.

“Come on, open your camera, do not close it. I want to see UNS students’ faces who study today,” Gibran Rakabuming Raka said, greeting FEB UNS students.

In this opportunity, he asked about student’s conditions and wondered where the students were from. Aditya, FEB UNS student, had a chance to chat with the Major directly through the Zoom Cloud Meeting. Rivaldo, another student, also had a similar opportunity to talk to Gibran Rakabuming Raka directly. Rivaldo mentioned that he is from Semarang, but since June 2021 stays in UNS. “PPKM in Solo, and I do not go home,” Rivaldo said.

Gibran Rakabuming Raka then asked if Rivaldo had been vaccinated against Covid-19. The conversation between the Number 1 person in Solo and FEB UNS students was relaxed and full of jokes. Another FEB UNS student, Bintang, said that the visit surprised him and he did not expect the first son of Indonesian President, Joko Widodo, would enter his classroom

“Truthfully, did not expect Mas Gibran to come,” Bintang said to uns.ac.id. He added that UNS courage to hold PTM makes him understand materials fasters. The first-semester student also admitted that he has difficulty understanding mathematical courses explained through an online platform. “I am also happy to come to the campus because it is often awkward in online learning and feels like there is limit or distance with the teacher,” Bintang added.

As reported previously, this visit was Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s third visit to UNS to review the implementation of PTM. The major was accompanied by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, and the faculty dean. In this visit, Gibran also observed the blood donation event and Covid-19 survivor screening in FK UNS Hall, where he greeted faculty members and academic staff who participated in the blood donation event.

When accompanying Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho said that the visit was not planned.

“I ask support from people in Solo to reach level two or level one (on the restriction of community activities scale). When we open schools, automatically the economic wheels will move faster, especially in UNS, because it has 40 thousand students who obviously have a great impact on the economic activities around the campus, for those owning hostel, restaurant, photocopy, and laundry,” Gibran said to uns.ac.id after reviewing PTM implementation in FEB UNS on Wednesday morning (8/9/2021).

Gibran Rakabuming Raka said that he could not wait to open all schools and campuses and hoped that student’s parents were not worried about the start of PTM in UNS. He mainly guarantees that UNS students from other cities who meet the requirements to participate in PTM will come and go home healthily. He added that UNS had implemented tight health protocols and disciplinary approaches to its students who meet the criteria to participate in the PTM.

“Parents should not worry, especially in UNS, come healthy go home also healthy, and those unvaccinated do not need to be afraid because the vaccine is to achieve herd immunity,” he added.

To the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, who accompanied him in reviewing the PTM implementation in the three faculties, Gibran Rakabuming Raka appreciated UNS’ quick steps that directly responded to Surakarta Municipal Government to start PTM. He said that online learning experienced by UNS students since 16 March 2021 makes them got a long learning loss.

“We do not want to restrict for too long. We want our young to start learning because the learning loss has taken place for almost two years, and we do not want to worsen it, and what’s important is the learning spirit; the learning spirit is vital,” he said.

When the central government lowers the Surakarta PPKM level to the third stage, the municipal government directly encourages UNS to start PTM. To which the Rector acted promptly and opened the PTM in the following week.
