UNS — Cabeankunti Village, Cepogo District, Boyolali Regency is one of the villages with a fairly strong historical tourism potential. The village has an archaeological bathhouse or ‘Patirtan.’ This site is presumed to have existed since the Ancient Mataram era in the 8th century. Despite this historical significance, the site remains hidden from the wider community’s attention due to the lack of tourism promotion. This condition encourages Group 1 of Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) Grant from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta to take the initiative to optimize the tourism potential of Cabeankunti Village through online marketing.

There are actually quite a number of ‘Patirtan’ sites in the village, including the Kedung Banteng Embung, Patirtaan Cabeankunti, Nyi Demang Niti Wencono’s Tomb, and Nongko Prodo Pertapan. However, these tourist objects are difficult to find because they have not been recorded on a digital map. Group 1 of the UNS MBKM Grant took the initiative to add these tourist attraction points on the digital map.

Another optimization effort to promote tourism development in Cabeankunti Village was carried out through digital promotions. Group 1 of the UNS MBKM Grant created a special Instagram account for the village under @mbkmdesacabeankunti. Through this account, the Group of ten people uploaded a number of promotional photos and videos.

The Group 1 UNS MBKM Grant Coordinator, Elza Maylliana Aryanti, hopes that the MBKM work program can be useful in the long term for Cabeankunti Village as a potential tourist village. “Through this MBKM program, we hope that our work program implementation can bring long-term benefit for Cabeankunti Village community as a prospective tourist village,” said Elza.

Not only promoting Cabeankunti Village tourism, from September to December, the Group also made efforts to preserve beautiful landscape. They carried out a reforestation program by planting 100 tree seedlings obtained from the Boyolali Regency Environmental Office and the Watershed Management Center (BPDAS) of the Lalung Reservoir, Karanganyar. The tree seedlings planting was carried out around the Kedung Banteng Embung. The Group planted 35 guava tree seeds, 35 soursop tree seeds, 20 tree seedlings, and 10 (ten) Ketapang tree seedlings for this re-planting program.

Additionally, to optimize the development of tourism objects, the Group consisting of students of the Geography Education Study Program also prepares a Development Plan Draft for the Tirta Tourism using the AutoCad application. This draft was then submitted to representatives of the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) and the Cabeankunti Village Youth Organization on December 4, 2021. The Group 1 of the UNS MBKM Grant also submitted a design for the Cabeankunti Village icon along with the draft submission.

The Secretary of Cabeankunti Village, Sulistiyanto, highly appreciates the efforts made by the UNS MBKM Group 1.

“Thank you for choosing our village for MBKM activities implementation. All the ongoing projects have been very beneficial for our village. Hopefully, we can maintain this collaboration and partnership in the future,” said Sulistiyanto. Humas UNS

UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta stated its readiness in assisting Sragen District Government in re-arranging Gunung Kemukus area. This statement was delivered by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, in the Interactive Dialogue on “The Management and Post-Construction Development in Gunung Kemukus Area” in Sunan Hotel, Monday (20/12/2021).

This event was also attended by Sragen Regent, dr. Kusdinar Untung Yuni Sukowati and the Head of Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (PPW) Central Java Directorate of Settlement Ministry of Public Works and Human Settlement (Ministry of PUPR) Cakra Nagara S.T., M.T., M.E.

Prof. Jamal explained that the existing image of Gunung Kemukus as a dark tourism destination needs to be changed, and UNS will take the role to change the image. The Rector is distraught that the religious tourism site turned into dark tourism filled with fornication business.

“This kind of belief needs to be fixed; we are ready to collaborate with Sragen. in the future. Hopefully, the area will become a tourism destination for children, cultural tourism destination so that children could grow well and their mother does not have a negative perception,” Prof. Jamal added.

UNS Support

UNS will provide several supports for the Sragen District Government in supporting the Gunung Kemukus revitalization process into “The New Kemukus” by the Ministry of PUPR. First, UNS will send its Study Centers to the Institute for Research and Community Services (LPPM) UNS, Research Groups in programs, and Center for Excellence (PUI) Javanologi UNS. The study centers that will be involved in this program are Research and Development Center for Tourism and Cultural, Population and Gender Research Study Center, Entrepreneurship Development Center, and Rural Areas Research and Development Center. The Research Group that will participate in the program is from the green economy, applied technology, tourism, and health. It is possible that more centers and groups will participate during the implementation

“This (program) could be used as a means and facilities so that the existing studies could change cultural perception and directed it into a more positive image,” Prof. Jamal stated.

Secondly, UNS will utilized Gunung Kemukus area in Sumberlawang Subdistrict, Sragen as a site for Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program implementation because the area has been revitalized by the Ministry of PUPR. According to the release from the Sragen District Government, the revitalization process of the area has reached 95% on November 2021. This process includes managing the entryway, building pedestrian, public space, Pangeran Samudra tomb, and other public facilities.

“Through this program, our students could be involved in Gunung Kemukus development program as a cultural destination through several activities. It will also involve faculty members, industries, and students to meet the 20-semester credits or equal to 4-6 months in the field,” he explained.

The last role of UNS is sending students through the Thematic Student Community Service Program (KKN) in Gunung Kemukus. Prof. Jamal explained that this program would be implemented periodically following the existing and clear roadmap. Through the Thematic KKN UNS program in Gunung Kemukus, UNS will involve around 3,000-5,000 students ear year and 350 field supervisors who will provide understanding on area utilization for the locals so that they feel the assistance.

UNS Recommendation

In the interactive dialogue, Prof. Jamal also shared recommendations for Sragen District Government in creating The New Kemukus as a family and religious tourism destination. Prof. Jamal recommended that the roadmap for The New Kemukus be prepared in an integrative manner and holistically because he thinks the area has numerous homework in the social, economic, and cultural issues.

“This (process) needs to involve a comprehensive handling by involving extensive stakeholders from the central/local governments, private sectors, university, and community,” Prof. Jamal explained.

UNS also suggested that Sragen District Government improve community awareness on the development plan of The New Kemukus as a source of local government income (PAD) by improving the quality of infrastructures and supporting facilities and integrating the local community’s interests with all related stakeholders.

“Third, to change the negative image, (we) need to build a new narrative on Pangeran Samudra, develop souvenirs destination, and improve the quality of homestay and the culinary sector,” Prof. Jamal added.

UNS also asked Sragen District Government to direct the area into a healthy, gender-responsive, and children-friendly tourism destination. Lastly, Prof. Jamal suggested the re-arrangement of spatial layout and settlement to create a more modern, interesting, and attractive destination.

“We will also assist with independent projects to create credits for the great cultural resources. For example, the European countries are advanced but respect the culture, and it is exciting,” he concluded. Humas UNS

UNS — Olivia Firdaus, a student of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA) in Environmental Science Program, was elected as Putri Solo in Putra Putri Solo Election (PPS) 2021. The event was held hybrid from the Open Stage Taman Balekambang on Saturday (13/11/2021).

Olivia – her nickname – is a representative from Jebres Subdistrict. In her 20 years of age, she collected her courage to participate in the competition, an event she has longed for a long time. To the board of juries, the fifth-semester student shared her wish to encourage the young generation to preserve the Javanese culture.

“I want to have a real contribution to the development of arts, culture, and tourism in Solo,” she said.

In an interview with the uns.ac.id team, Olivia said that her willingness was inspired by the Solo slogan, Solo the Spirit of Java. She thinks the slogan means that Solo is the center for Javanese tourism, and awareness to preserve the nation’s wealth is vital.

“If we, who live in Solo, do not understand Javanese culture, how it develops, how it survives amid the changing times,” Olivia stated.

In achieving the title, Olivia needed to compete with 114 other participants in Putra and Putri categories. She won over 90 participants through written tests and interviews that consisted of public speaking tests and interests and talents. In the final round, the finalists were required to participate in the briefing before participating in the Grand Final that was attended by the Mayor of Surakarta, Gibran Rakabuming.

During the briefing, Olivia was highly interested in the series of training. She felt lucky to have the opportunity to learn Javanese culture in-depth, leaving a deep impression for her, especially when she learned about Javanese culture she did not know before. “About tourism as well. So, it is easier to learn,” she shared.

As a prize for believing in God’s help, Olivia was elected as Putri Solo 2021 and received rewards directly from Gibran and his wife, Selvi Ananda Putri. Olivia said that she was surprised with the result and that she was despondent in the mid of the briefing and wanted to drop out of the program. “Thank God, (I) had the strength and got elected as Putri Solo 2021,” she added. Olivia stated that she is ready to make a real contribution in introducing Solo culture and tourism and hoped that her involvement could encourage the youth to learn and care for their culture because the young generation is the spearhead for cultural conservation. “To care and have a sense of belonging towards the culture in Solo, especially Javanese culture, because if not us, who else will (conserve the culture)?”

Olivia also wants to get involved in the promotion of the tourism sector because the opportunity is something she must be thankful for, and that she needs to work harder in solving challenges she has in the future.
UNS — Digitalization is a common phenomenon during the pandemic, including in the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the rural regions. Considering this opportunity, the Diploma Program (D-3) in Informatics Engineering Vocational School (SV) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta take a role in developing the Watu Gambir Rural Tourism in Karanganyar District.

Faculty Members in Applied Informatics Research Group (RG) with Hartatik, S.Si., M.Si., Abdul Aziz, M.Cs., and Nurul Firdaus, M.Info.Tech., as members implemented research and community service program in 2021 that focuses on the digitalization of rural tourism.
UNS — The tourism sector started to revive after the Covid-19 infection curve in Indonesia is flattening down. This opportunity attracted many tourism destination managers to promote their region to visitors, including several areas with tourism potential that start opening their region for tourism activities such as Puntukrejo Village, Ngargoyoso Subdistrict, Karanganyar District.

The village has a prospective tourism destination that offers the natural beauty of the foot of Lawu Mountain, The Lawu Fresh. However, the destination has not offered significant differentiation from other tourism destinations. Puntukrejo Village also has Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) potential that has not been optimally developed due to the challenges in the marketing process and branding through its simple packaging.

Concerned with this condition, a student team from the Faculty of Law (FH), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, had the initiative to develop the MSMEs and tourism destination in the village. Their community service program was implemented by the members of Student Association for Study and Research (KSP) Principium: Muhammad Ainurrasyid Alfikri, Aditya Tri Wijaya, Aldi Rizki Khoiruddin, Alizza Khumaira Assyifa, Hanif Alwan Mumtaz, Ika Putri Wijayanti, Jelita Kristi Agape, Petrus Kanisius Eko Kristanto, Ragil Listyaningrum, Widyasari Rizki Ananda Rahmadewi, and Yusriel Bachrie.

The program was a part of the Holistic Village Development and Empowerment Program (PHP2D) funded by the Directorate General of the Belmawa Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdikbudristek). The program was also the implementation of the higher education Tri Dharma and Merdeka Belajar program that tries to implement independent learning through a direct project in the community.

The program titled Indian’s Lawu and MSME Edutour in Puntukrejo Village was officially launched on Tuesday (27/20/2021) in HIK Lawu, Karanganyar. The launch ceremony was attended by the Head of Tourism, Youth, and Sports Office of Karanganyar District, Drs. Titis Srijawoto mentioned support for the students and village government in his opening remark. He also hoped that UNS students would continue to have a high spirit in building a partnership in developing the village. “Including village potentials such as the tourism potential,” he stated.

The ceremony was also attended by the Vice-Dean for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information Affairs FH UNS, Dr. Isharianto, S.H., M.H., who shared how delighted he is with the development of the village and his supports for students and their partner village. “We always support PHP2D Team FH UNS because this event is a part of Merdeka Belajar promoted by the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology,” he stated.

Before the launching ceremony, the Team, Ngargoyoso Village government, MSMEs, Village-owned business (Bumdes), Jeep group, and other village elements had worked together for four months. During the process, the Team held business and marketing training in the 4.0 digital era with all MSMEs in the Puntukrejo Village government. Under the supervision of Dr. Muhammad Rustamaji S.H. M.H. and Rysca Indreswari S.Pt., M.Si., the Team also has successfully integrated the tourism and MSMEs in Puntukrejo into Edutour MSMEs that combine the jeep and MSMEs’ production potential. The Team maintains close communication among the related parties and promotes the Edutour program through a creative video shared on various social media such as YouTube, Instagram, and Tiktok.

Indian’s Lawu is creative and educative camping in The Lawu Fresh, which has been visited by many tourists to take pictures with Indian-related background. This creative tourism program is then integrated into a tourism package.

Besides the launching ceremony, the event also included an MoU signing ceremony between the Team and the Tourism, Youth, and Sports Office of Karanganyar District and collaboration between FH UNS and the Ngargoyoso Village government. The participants in the event were also entertained with local ‘tek-tek’ music and Indian dances from the local children. Humas UNS

UNS — The Student Creativity Program Team in Applied Science and Technology (PKM-PI) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, led by Dinda Karina Yohanny, and Dany Taufiq, Andhita Adiba, Annisa Yasmin, and Intan Ayu, as members proposed an idea based on Rumah Coklat Bodag’s business issues. Starting from their partner’s issues such as limited human resources, lack knowledge in marketing strategy and branding, low local awareness on cacao potential, and lack of innovation and product differentiation at the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). PKM-PI Team UNS tried to provide a solution through the implementation of design thinking theory.

Design thinking is a method used to solve an issue efficiently and creatively through five stages emphasize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. One of the design thinking program implementations promoted by the team is the Virtual Edu Trip that invites viewers to virtually visit Rumah Coklat Bodag, a café, and chocolate production house. Viewers could observe the chocolate production process that started from cacao beans until processed into chocolate products that educate people about the science behind chocolate production. The program also includes interesting merchandizes from Rumah Coklat Bodag for viewers with the highest scores.

The program that was implemented through the Zoom Meeting with 69 participants from elementary school to university students received positive feedbacks from viewers.

“Entertainment during the pandemic, sis!” Ardelia, a viewer, said.

Through design thinking, PKM-PI Team UNS also conducted internal education for the partner to update the FCTZ500 technology, preparing a selfie site, and conducting marketing and branding efforts. The internal education was conducted to ensure that Rumah Coklat Bodag employees understand the importance of design thinking concept implementation in creating attraction towards the café and cacao processed products.

The FCTZ500 machine is pulverizing machine that could help partners in their jobs and increase production outputs. The selfie site also has educational material on chocolate and cacao general information. The marketing and branding efforts were implemented through the activation of various social media platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, and the company website. The team also develop a partnership with Shopee online marketplace and Swalayan Kaifada to promote Rumah Coklat Bodag products. The implementation of the design thinking concept is expected to benefits Rumah Coklat Bodag and its consumers. Humas UNS
