Prof. Hartono emphasized that this score places UNS among universities recognized for their dedication to sustainability and environmental preservation. “A 4,5 Trees Rating signifies the campus’s strong commitment to implementing sustainable initiatives and contributing to the surrounding environment,” he stated.

This achievement reflects significant efforts by UNS to enhance campus environmental quality through initiatives such as tree planting, energy-efficient management, and promoting eco-friendly lifestyles among students, faculty, and staff. UNS also continues to expand green open spaces and improve waste management systems, aligning with its vision of becoming a sustainable university.

UI GreenMetric is a global ranking system initiated by Universitas Indonesia (UI) to evaluate universities’ commitment to sustainability and reducing environmental impact. The Vice-Rector for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information UNS, Prof. Sajidan, states that UNS’ ranking as the top 10 UI GreenMetric shows UNS’ achievement, which is highly appreciated and meaningful. This ranking awarded to UNS shows that UNS, as Pancasila Fortress, is committed to environmental sustainability.

Moreover, Prof. Sajidan states that UNS’ ranking, as one of the Higher Education Institutions with exceptional concern for environmental conditions, is the result of collaborative efforts among UNS academic members.

“This is an outstanding achievement, at least for UNS, to conclude the year of 2022, with a brilliant achievement. Congratulations to all UNS academic members for all the contributions toward this UI GreenMetric ranking achievement,” said Prof. Sajidan, Monday (19/12/2022).

Prof. Sajidan also states that UNS’ achievement to get ranked as a top-10 UI GreenMetric, proves that UNS is more than ready to be a World Class University (WCU).

He considers that international Higher Education is not only measured by the quality of research, scientific publication, patents, graduates’ quality, and lecturers’ or students’ achievement but also considering technology adoption and environmental sustainability efforts.

“Recently, environmental issues attracted global concern, including Indonesia. Therefore, UNS’ achievement in UI GreenMetric shows that our campus is up to date with global development, especially climate change,” explains Prof. Sajidan.

UI GreenMetric Assessment Standard

The UI GreenMetric, in which UNS is ranked as the top higher education institution in sustainability initiatives both at the national and international levels, is an annual event. This ranking was initiated by UI for assessing higher education institutions as members of UI GreenMetric, both from Indonesia and abroad, based on commitments and actions toward green and sustainable environmental initiatives.

In 2022, UNS competed against 126 Higher Education Institutions in Indonesia as a member of UI GreenMetric. This ranking is also followed by 1,050 higher education institutions from 85 countries across the globe.

There are several pillars applied by UI GreenMetric to assess Higher Education Institutions’ commitments toward green initiatives and environmental sustainability, namely environment, economy, and social.

The scoring weight for each aspect assessed in the assessment stage is as follows, education and research (18 percent), water usage (10 percent), transportation (18 percent), university infrastructure condition (15 percent), energy and climate change (21 percent), and waste management (18 percent). The coordinator of UNS Green Campus, Dr. Suryanto, S.E., M.Si., said that the 2021 UI GreenMetric University Ranking Award had been announced at the end of December. “Thank you for your prayers and support; finally, UNS is awarded 7th National Rank,” explained Dr. Suryanto.

Following this announcement, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, SH, M.Hum., on the sidelines of the 46th Anniversary ceremony, also bestowed awards to excellent faculty and lecturers.

The general champion of green campus among UNS faculties was awarded to the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA). The favorite champion was awarded to the Faculty of Engineering (FT). The Faculty of Law (FH) was bestowed an award under the Setting and Infrastructure category. In the Energy and Claiming category, the Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB) was announced as the winner. The West category was won by the Faculty of Agriculture (FP). For the Transportation category, the award was won by the Postgraduate school. The Faculty of Education and Educational Sciences (FKIP) was pronounced as champion in the Education category. Other than trophies and award charters, each winning faculty received prizes in the form of environmental hygiene facilities.

Prof. Jamal added that as a new tradition at the 46th UNS Anniversary, the university would bestow an award to lecturers with excellent performance in research activities and community service and inventors and productive creators for the Patents and Intellectual Property Rights category in 2022.

“Hopefully, the award will motivate and inspire lecturers to be more productive in their work, to contribute to the community welfare and the Indonesian nation,” said Prof. Jamal.

Numerous lecturers are bestowed with the 2021 LPPM innovation, research, and community service award. The first place for the Professor in the science and technology category is awarded to Prof. Dr. Bambang Suhardi, S.T., M.T. from FT, the first place for the Professor in the social and humanities category is rewarded to Prof. Irwan Trinugroho, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., from the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB). The first-place award for the Professor of science and technology field category went to Ubaidillah, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D. from FT. Meanwhile, the Associate Professor award under the social and humanities category is bestowed to Rumi Iqbal Doewes, S.Pd., M.Or., from the Faculty of Sports (FKOR). The first place for the Associate Professor in the science and technology category goes to Dr. Eng Aditya Rio Prabowo, S.T., M.T., M.Eng. of FT. Ranked first in the Associate Professor in the social and humanities category is Sigit Purnomo Adi, S.Sn., M.Sn. from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FSRD). Nurhasan Agung Prabowo dr., Sp. PD., M.Kes. from the Faculty of Medicine (FK) is bestowed award as the first place under the Lecturer in science and technology category. As for the first place award for the Lecturer in social and humanities category is awarded to Dr. Sapto Hermawan, SH, M.H. from FH. Niken Bayu Argaheni, S.ST., M.Keb. from FK is awarded first place award under the Lecturer in science and technology category. Lastly, the first place for Lecturer in the social and humanities category goes to Tastaftiyan Risfandy, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D. from FEB.

Meanwhile, the 2022 UNS inventor and productive creator award, Dr. Eng Hendri Widiyandari, S.Si., M.Si. from FMIPA has bestowed a reward under the patent category, while the first place for copyright category was bestowed to Yudho Yudhanto, S.Kom., M.Kom. from Vocational School (SV). Humas UNS
