Ruth submitted an infographic on the digital literacy strategy during the Covid-19 pandemic to ensure that students and community members could learn effectively and innovatively. Her infographic also aims to prevent the community from performing negative behaviors on the internet, especially in the use of social media.

“Based on APJII survey, internet users in (Indonesia) are more than half of the population. This shows that Indonesians are relatively advanced in terms of technology. However, Indonesian’s digital literacy is poor,” Ruth stated to the uns.ac.id on Friday (7/1/2022).

Quite frequently, that negative case in social media causes depression on the victims, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“This is because people spend more time surfing the internet. Therefore, I want to provide information on the digital literacy strategy to avoid negative cases such as hoaxes,” she added.

The competition that ran from 25 October to 5 December 2021 was participated by 37 teams from various universities in Indonesia. Ruth admitted that she was delighted when she was announced as the 3rd winner because she could contribute to bringing pride to UNS at the national level.

“At the time, I was resigned during the announcement; even I did not participate in the webinar and announcement because I thought it would be hard for me to win considering the number of participants from various universities. However, Alhamdulillah, the result of my work, won 3rd Place,” the fifth-semester student stated.

Ruth hoped that she could keep contributing to making UNS proud in various competitions and that her achievement could inspire other students to achieve something. Humas UNS

The welcoming ceremony was opened by the Vice-Dean for Academic, Research, and Student Affairs FISIP UNS, Prahastiwi Utari, Ph.D., and aims to share information, knowledge, experiences, and potential of collaboration between the institutions. The ceremony was also attended by the Vice-Dean for Human Resources, Finance, and Logistics Affairs FISIP UNS, Dr. Ahmad Zuber; Vice-Dean for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information Affairs FISIP UNS, Dr. Kristina Setyowati; the Head of Communication Science Program UNS, Sri Hastjarjo, Ph.D., the Head of Master Program in Communication Science UNS, Dr. Andre Novie Rahmanto, and faculty members of Communication Science Program  FISIP UNS. From the Faculty of Da’wah and Communication UIN Sunan Ampel, Pardianto, M.Si., Dr. Ali Nurdin, Abu Amar Bustimi, M.Si., Ariza Qurrata A’yun, M.Ed.Kom., Afifatur Rohimah, M.Ikom., Romdhon, M.Pd., and Ahmad Roziqin, S.Pd.I., attended the event.

On this occasion, Prahastiwi Utari, Ph.D., warmly welcomed the visit. As two institutions with a focus on communication study, she hoped that both programs could collaborate in achieving mutual development. Supporting FISIP UNS Vice-Dean for Academic, Research, and Student Affairs, Pardianto, M.Si., as the Head of Communication Program FDK UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya emphasized the importance of synergy between the two programs.

“With this visit, we shared information and experience. We learned many things from the Communication Science Program FISIP UNS as an experienced and developed program,” he stated.

Sri Hastjarjo, Ph.D., in his speech, explained the profile of the Communication Science Program FISIP UNS, starting from its history, executive boards, faculty members, curriculum, teaching and learning process, facilities, and the excellence and institution achievements. He concluded the speech with a warm welcome for the visit that could expand the network of partnership among universities with communication science programs.

The potential collaborations that could be implemented by both programs are students exchange, joint class, exchange of journal articles and proceedings, book or book chapter collaboration, and laboratory partners.

“In our (Communication Science Program FISIP UNS), besides undergraduate thesis, there is final assignment or TA. So, a student could choose between an undergraduate thesis or TA. TA is adjusted to student’s specialization during their study: journalism, advertisement, public relations, radio, and video/TV,” the alumnus The University of Newcastle Doctoral Program, Australia, added.
