Chair of the Christmas Celebration Committee, Prof. Ari Natalia Probandari, dr., M.P.H., Ph.D., explained that the Baksos was part of the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year celebrations. “This is an annual activity conducted by the joint Christian Community of UNS and ISI Surakarta,” Prof. Ari stated.

The program specifically targeted cleaning service staff from UNS and ISI Surakarta. “Our target is 125 cleaning service staff from both campuses. We chose to focus on them because they play a vital role in maintaining campus cleanliness. Through these health check-ups, we hope they can better understand their health conditions,” she added.

The health examinations included blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, and uric acid tests. Participants also had the opportunity to consult with medical professionals about their results.

“We provided free consultations with doctors, including specialists in ENT, pulmonology, and dentistry. To support this program, we collaborated with UNS Hospital, the UNS Medical Center, and the Faculty of Medicine (FK) UNS,” Prof. Ari elaborated.

While waiting for their turn, participants received education from young doctors of FK UNS about healthy living habits.

“We hope this social service event can benefit our cleaning service colleagues,” Prof. Ari said.

The Head of the UNS Medical Center Unit, Dr. Selfi Handayani, dr., M.Kes., expressed her gratitude to the Christian Community of UNS and ISI Surakarta for entrusting the clinic to host the Baksos event.

One of the cleaning service staff from UNS, Sanem, shared her excitement about participating in the free health check-ups.

“I hope this becomes a regular event so that cleaning staff can monitor their health,” Sanem said.

The uniqueness of this workshop lies in the integration of immersive technology, such as virtual reality, in creating digital teaching media. Participants were invited to create engaging educational content using the Canva platform, optimized with AI assistance. This AI technology allows teachers to design interactive and visual teaching media without needing advanced design skills. The CoSpaces Edu platform also enables educational content to be packaged in immersive technology, providing a more engaging learning experience for students.

Eko Harry Pratisto, S.T., M.Info.Tech., Ph.D., Head of the D3 Informatics Engineering Program at SV UNS, emphasized the importance of technology literacy for educators and students in this digital era. “AI is not just the technology of the future, it is already a part of our daily lives. Through this activity, we hope to provide new insights and skills to teachers and students in utilizing AI for learning,” he said.

Maya Irawati, S.Si., Headmaster of Al-Azhar Syifa Budi Solo Junior High School, also expressed high appreciation for the Immersive Technology Research Group from the D3 Informatics Engineering Program at SV UNS for their initiative. “This activity is very beneficial for us, as it can improve the quality of learning and provide new experiences for teachers and students. We hope this collaboration can continue and be implemented at various educational levels under Al Azhar Syifa Budi Solo,” Maya Irawati said.

This community service activity was conducted to address issues faced by teachers, particularly in developing teaching media amidst the rapid technological advancements today. Teachers are required to quickly create teaching media while maintaining academic rigor.

The main material was delivered by Ovide Decroly Wisnu Ardhi, S.T., M.Eng., who provided training on creating teaching media using Canva. Ovide explained various Canva features that can help teachers design teaching media easily and efficiently, aided by AI technology to speed up content creation. The participants were very enthusiastic about the training, with numerous direct interactions and question-and-answer sessions allowing them to consult directly with the resource persons. This activity not only provided new knowledge but also broadened the participants’ perspectives on how AI technology can be applied in education.

There are high hopes for this activity to be the beginning of similar initiatives in the future, aiming to continuously enhance technology literacy among educators and students. Thus, Al-Azhar Syifa Budi Solo Junior High School is expected to advance further in applying technology for learning and produce graduates ready to face challenges in the digital era. The Faculty members who are part of the Traditional Textile and Contemporary Art Research Group (RG) Team held a community service entitled “The Significance of Design in Batik Cilacap Products for National and International Community Awareness” on 4 to 5 July 2022 at the Office of Trade, Cooperative, and SMEs Hall, Cilacap Regency. The training was attended by batik entrepreneurs from several sub-districts in Cilacap Regency, representatives of the Indonesian Fashion Stylists Association (IPBI), and Tiara Kusuma Cilacap Bridal Wedding Association. Additionally, there were also representatives from the Office of Trade, Cooperative, and SMEs Cilacap Regency; Cilacap Regency Education and Culture Office; Cilacap Regency Youth, Sports, and Tourism Office; and Cilacap Regency Regional Planning and Development Office.

The Head of the Traditional Textile and Contemporary Art RG, Dr. Theresia Widyastuti, M.Sn., explained that the training was conducted in two days. The first day was filled with a presentation from the P2M team. Meanwhile, the second day was filled with discussions about various aspects of the design preparation process, including open consultations with the Craft Arts (Textile Design) Study Program P2M team, FSRD UNS regarding how to find icons for batik Cilacap, which is currently still in the development phase. This consultation then continues through an online platform to this day. “The Whatsapp group between the P2M team and the Cilacap batik actors aims to assist them in finding icons for coastal batik from the South coast of Java. Cilacap batik patterns are closely related to local wisdom, which is the sea culture. Therefore, most batik made in Cilacap has the main motif of marine biota,” said Dr. Theresia in her release (Saturday, 30/7/2022).

This meeting is a continuation of the collaboration established with several batik entrepreneurs in Cilacap Regency, such as Leksana Batik Jaya Business in Kutawaru District, Batik Seloka Business in Adipala District, Batik Rajasamas Business in Maos District, and Batik Sekar Waru Business in Nusawungu District. The partnership was established through the Professional Work Course in the Craft Arts (Textile Design) Study Program.

Members of the Traditional Textile and Contemporary Art RG team were also involved in supporting the event. They are, Sarah Rum, Apika Nurani Sulistyati, M.Sn., Drs. Felix Ari Dartono, M.Sn., and Darwoto, M.Sn. Meanwhile, students of the Craft Arts (Textile Design) Study Program who conducted research or professional work in Cilacap Regency also attended the training to provide assistance in this activity.
