UNS Academic Members to Perform Hajj

In his report, the UNS Vice-Rector for Human Resources, Prof. E. Muhtar, S.Pd., M.Si., CFrA., announced that 18 individuals will join the pilgrimage. The group includes 16 lecturers and two staff from various faculties and units across the university. Among them is the Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si.

“This year’s UNS Hajj pilgrims include one staff member from the UNS Central Office. Four lecturers are from the Faculty of Medicine (FK). Three lecturers are from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), and four from the Faculty of Agriculture (FP), including one staff member,” Prof. Muhtar explained. “The remaining participants include one lecturer from the Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB), Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), and Faculty of Engineering (FT). Another lecturer is from the Faculty of Law (FH), Vocational School (SV), and one staff member from UNS Hospital.”

Heartfelt Messages and Spiritual Support

Rector Prof. Hartono, who is also among the pilgrims, expressed his sincere prayers and support for his fellow travelers. He encouraged everyone to embrace the pilgrimage as a moment of spiritual growth and unity. “Let us use this moment to strengthen our bonds and solidarity within the campus community,” he said. “May this pilgrimage mark the beginning of a more sincere, humble, and spirited commitment to service.”

Meanwhile, Prof. Nuryani, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., delivered a message on behalf of the group. She thanked the university leadership for granting permission to perform the pilgrimage and asked for prayers from the academic community. “We sincerely ask for your prayers so that we may carry out every part of the Hajj ritual smoothly and completely,” she said. “May we grant ourselves health, strength, and ease throughout the journey. We also pray that UNS continues to receive divine blessings.”

A Ceremony of Unity and Faith

UNS – The Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta presented awards to outstanding members of the university community. These awards serve as a token of appreciation for their dedication and contributions to the university’s advancement.

The ceremony took place during UNS’s 49th Dies Natalies celebration, which coincided with National Education Day 2025. The university organized the event on Friday evening (2/5/2025) at the G.P.H. Haryo Mataram Auditorium. University leaders, UNS founders, faculty deans, lecturers, staff, and students attended the event.

“This offers a valuable opportunity to celebrate our achievements. It also allows us to reflect on our commitment to education, especially higher education,” Prof. Hartono, Rector of UNS, said. “Tonight’s event represents UNS’s gratitude to all individuals who have consistently contributed to the growth of our beloved university. We extend our appreciation to lecturers, staff, and students. They have played an integral role in UNS’s journey and transformation.”

Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) also presented several honorary awards, including:
• UNS Hymn and March Composer Award: Awarded to Josef Raharjo, represented by his daughter, Dr. Dewi Purnamaningsih Pribadi Susiawati.
• UNS Emblem Creator Award: Awarded to Drs. Sadjiman Eddi Sanyoto.
• Terima Kasih UNS Song Award: Awarded to Albertus Magnus Putut Prabantoro, S.H., M.Ikom.
• UNS Founding Pioneer Award: Awarded to Mr. Kanjeng Gusti Pangeran Harya (KGPH) Joyokusumo, represented by KBRAy. Hj. S. Fatimah Retno Hapsari, S.H.

“These awards are more than symbolic,” Prof. Hartono stated. “They honor the dedication and legacy that have shaped UNS’s identity. I express my deepest respect and gratitude to all faculty members and staff. I also thank students and partners for their hard work, innovation, and collaboration.”

Moreover, Prof. Hartono emphasized the ongoing transformation in education. He referred to the 2025 National Education Day remarks by the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. The message highlighted that higher education must not only educate but also deliver impactful solutions and drive meaningful change.

“We must strengthen our commitment to the five core functions of higher education institutions,” he explained. “We focus on results and impact and conduct research that solves real-world problems. We apply knowledge for social and ecological benefits, encourage research commercialization, and ensure open and accountable evaluations.”

In his remarks, Prof. Hartono congratulated the 213 PNS, including both academic and non-academic staff, for their remarkable achievement in receiving this honor from the government. The Satyalancana Karya Satya medal is a symbol of recognition for their unwavering loyalty and service.

“Out of the 213 civil servants, 38 received the 30-year Satyalancana Karya Satya, 75 received the 20-year medal, and 100 were awarded the 10-year medal. Additionally, we extend our congratulations to the 90 retirees who received tokens of appreciation from KPRI UNS,” Prof. Hartono stated.

The Satyalancana Karya Satya is an honorary medal granted to civil servants who have shown exceptional loyalty, dedication, competence, honesty, and discipline throughout their service. “This award is a testament to invaluable dedication. I hope this recognition inspires the next generation to emulate the hard work, dedication, and integrity demonstrated by all of you,” he added.

Prof. Hartono emphasized that this government award should foster a sense of pride, set a standard for exemplary conduct, and enhance motivation to deliver better public services. “I hope that this medal serves as a constant reminder of your responsibility as dedicated public servants to the community,” Prof. Hartono stated.

Addressing the retirees, Prof. Hartono acknowledged that this moment marks the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. Vice-Rector for Resources at UNS, Prof. Dr. E. Muhtar, S.Pd., M.Si., CFrA., in his report that the Satyalancana Karya Satya awards were given based on the fulfillment of specific criteria as per regulations. The recipients of this honor are Indonesian citizens with good moral character and conduct. They have consistently performed their duties with loyalty, competence, honesty, and discipline, and have met the required length of service. During their tenure, they have never taken leave outside the state’s responsibility nor received any moderate or severe disciplinary sanctions as stipulated by the prevailing laws and regulations.

Prof. Hartono extended invitations to students who excelled in various national talent competitions, including the 2024 National Student Arts Week (Peksiminas), the 2024 Indonesian Flying Robot Contest (KRTI), the 2024 National Student Showcase in Information and Communication Technology (GEMASTIK), the 2024 National Sports Week (PON), the 2024 Kasad (Army Chief of Staff) Cup, the 2024 Church Choir Festival (Pesparawi), and students who represented UNS in the 2024 National Scientific Week (Pimnas), the Indonesian Student Entrepreneurship Competition, and the Student Organization Capacity Building Program (PPK Ormawa).

Prof. Hartono attended the ceremony along with the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni, Prof. Ir. Dody Ariawan, S.T., M.T., Ph.D.; Director of Student Affairs, Dr. Ir. Joko Sutrisno, M.P.; and Director of Student Affairs Secretary, Danang Tomi Harjanto, S.Sos.

In his remarks, Prof. Hartono expressed deep gratitude to the students for their dedication to representing UNS in these prestigious events. “I am extremely proud of each one of you. You have fought tirelessly for the honor of UNS,” he said.

On behalf of the entire UNS academic community, Prof. Muliaman congratulated Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si. on his new role as Rector of UNS for the 2024-2029 term. He expressed his best wishes for Prof. Hartono in fulfilling the mandate from the nation and society to contribute to educating the nation and improving societal welfare through education.

“Quoting the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, the Rector is the Ambassador of Merdeka Belajar, Kampus Merdeka. The Rector plays a crucial role in fostering student innovation and ensuring that universities produce intelligent and character-driven individuals,” Prof. Muliaman added.

Prof. Muliaman expressed hope that, under Prof. Dr. Hartono’s leadership over the next five years, UNS will pioneer Good University Governance and become a world-class university excelling in the Tri Dharma of Higher Education: teaching, research, and community service. He emphasized that Good University Governance includes values such as transparency, which upholds honesty in management; fairness, which serves as the foundation of UNS’s administration; accountability, which drives the responsible execution of programs; responsibility, ensuring UNS operates ethically; and collegiality, which emphasizes teamwork in addressing current challenges at UNS.

By embracing Good University Governance, UNS aims to foster innovations and world-class scientific works that support high-quality teaching. The Technical Chairman for Rector Selection and Election (P3CR), Dr. Agus Riwanto, stated on Monday, 3 October 2022, that the registration and required documents were opened on 3-10 October 2022, and the document submission process ended on 11 October 2022, while registration was closed on 10 October 2022.

The registration process was conducted online and offline with offline services provided in the P3CR Secretariat in Jodhipati Room, UNS Inn 2^nd floor, from 08.00 am to 05.00 pm. “Offline documents submission was provided until 11 October 2022 from 08.00 am to 07.00 pm. A team was stationed at the secretariat to provide timely services for all registrants. The online registration was provided through the https://p3cr.uns.ac.id/pendaftaran website from 3 October 00:00:01 Jakarta Time and submission up to 11 October 2022 at 07.00 pm.

The following step in the Rector election process was verifying documents from 12-14 October 2022. All participants who passed the verification stage received an opportunity to explain their vision and mission to MWA on 16-17 October 2022, and MWA selected three participants for the election on 20 October 2022. The participants then explained their vision and mission on 27-28 October 2002. “Then MWA will hold a plenary session to elect the new Rector on 11 November 2022,” he concluded. Humas UNS

In his remark, Prof. Sahid Teguh Widodo, the Head of PUI Javanologi UNS, said that the theme raised is noteworthy since Java is part of the emerald of the equator. “Java is the world’s manikkam (gemstone), which holds a thousand mountains of gold, fertile land, and prosperity. It is not only rich in tangible resources but also intangible resources such as knowledge, thought, and philosophy that grows and develops in cultural life. PUI Javanologi will strive to preserve Javanese cultures through research and studies,” he explained.

The Mayor of Surakarta, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, said that Java is also a center of culture with advanced ancient technology, thus, it holds a diverse cultural and historical heritage. “This cultural heritage includes temples, architecture, traditions, art, cuisine, clothing, and developed technology. This heritage is in line with human resources diversity blessed with various professions in the field of art and culture. The City Government of Solo strongly supports the preservation of the arts, culture, and traditions that we have,” said Gibran.

Meanwhile, Prof. Jamal said that there is a Javanese proverb saying “gemah ripah loh jinawi” (serene, prosperous, abundantly fertile), which refers to an ideal economy. Further, there were also sublime social institutions developed in the community for generations. “Traditions such as visiting each other, empathy, guyub rukun (harmony), mutual cooperation, and many others, as original Javanese values continue to grow and develop. Java also holds a diverse cultural heritage and superior products, such as batik, shadow puppets, gamelan, architecture, manuscripts, and daggers that have been internationally recognized by UNESCO as Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity,” said Prof. Jamal.

The Vice Governor of Central Java, Taj Yasin, said that the theme raised by PUI Javanologi was intriguing as a discussion subject. “When talking about Java, not only it has high potential human resources but also supported by rich natural resources. Fertile soil, earth mineral and material content, mountains, rivers, and others. The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, said that the Central Java AMSI appreciates the digitization implementation in several business sectors, universities, and local governments. UNS managed to become a winner for the State Universities in Central Java category. This award is given to UNS that has optimized information technology. “It can be said that digitalization at UNS has been applied in various digital elements such as website, Instagram (social media), and YouTube compared to other universities,” said Prof. Jamal.

Prof. Jamal added that there are several State Universities in Central Java that are included in the same nomination with UNS, namely Universitas Diponegoro (Undip), Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed), Universitas Negeri Semarang (Unnes), and Universitas Islam Negeri Walisongo.

The Chairman of Central Java AMSI, Ahmad Nurkholis, said this award was intended to give appreciation to institutions, both government and private, for their digital technology implementation and technology literacy. “We, AMSI Jateng, whose administrators and members consist of cyber media companies in Central Java, initiated and hosted the AMSI Jateng Digital Award,” Nurkholis said as quoted from Tribunjateng.com.

He said that the award recipient or AMSI nomination for the Central Java Digital Award would not be charged or free, under the full support from various parties. According to him, there are three assessments conducted based on website management and two social media channels, namely YouTube and Instagram. Meanwhile, the assessment is conducted by considering the form of viewers, traffic, and engagement or feedback provided within one month. The assessor team consists of digital media experts from the cyber media AMSI members empowered by Solopos Media. The plenary decision was made by the editor-in-chief from various cyber media and members of the Central Java AMSI. “We wish through this event, the community can improve digital technology use, especially in the digital era like now, like it or not, we have to adapt to the current situation with the digital community,” he said.

In the AMSI Jateng Digital Award 2022, there are seven nominated categories, namely Private Companies category, State Universities, Private Universities, Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMD), Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD), Regional Representative Councils (DPRD), Regency-City Governments in Central Java. Meanwhile, the BPKP was represented by the General Secretary of BPKP, Ernadhi Sudarmanto. Also present during the ceremony were the Head of the BPKP Center for Research and Development (Puslitbangwas), Amdi Veri Darma; SPIP R&D Sub-Coordinator, Dwi Kiswanto; and BPKP’s Lead Auditor, Dwi Arka Prasetya.

The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, welcomed this partnership and wished that this partnership could accomplish the previously designated proper and clean government implementation. “I sincerely hope that UNS partnership with BPKP can be useful to monitor the implementation of priority programs that have been announced, thus, it can be carried out well, smoothly, and be free from deviations,” said Prof. Jamal.

The partnership is also expected to develop towards the implementation of Higher Education Tri Dharma, including accommodating the implementation of Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM). “Once signed by BPKP and UNS, the document should not only be stored in the drawer and serve as an archived document. Instead, this partnership must be followed up immediately in academics, research, service, internships, KKN, and various other sectors, including the involvement of professionals and excellent auditors from BPKP—who are willing to collaborate to promote UNS—to deliver lectures at UNS,” he added.

The partnership established between UNS and BPKP targeted to empower the Center of Excellence (CoE) through self-governing. This memorandum of understanding aims to support the implementation of tasks and functions in improving the internal government supervision quality, spurring creativity and co-creation, fostering the implementation of applied research and study results, encouraging the advancement of science that will be beneficial to national development, and empower and synergize existing resources and knowledge in supporting internal supervision development.

The scope of this partnership includes the implementation of Higher Education Tri Dharma as well as the empowerment of CoE STAR for the dissemination of science and applied research or studies that support internal supervision development. Additionally, knowledge management system capability improvement, which is related to financial and development internal supervision, as well as internal supervision policies development and creations—through the utilization of applied research results or studies conducted academically—are also covered in the partnership that will be valid within three years period.

The General Secretary of BPKP, Ernadhi Sudarmanto, thanked UNS for opening up and willing to collaborate with BPKP. This partnership is expected to facilitate both institutions to achieve the main research objective related to the implementation of proper and clean governance through the planned CoE. “Through CoE, we want to collaborate with academic experts for the greatest benefit of both higher education and BPKP. For 2022, BPKP is working with UNS for research in the APP sector, namely strengthening good and clean government administration,” said Ernadhi.

With this partnership, Ernadhi revealed that he wanted to explore a more effective and appropriate perspective for better and cleaner government administration. Further, the partnership between UNS and BPKP encourages a scientific culture and strengthens BPKP’s position and accountability for financial supervision and development in the public sector.
