UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, through its Unit for Student Community Service Program (UPKKN) UNS, provided a briefing for UNS students on KKN Thematic for Rural Development on January-February 2022 Batch. The briefing was provided in UNS Auditorium and live-streamed through the Zoom Cloud Meeting and UPKKN UNS YouTube channel on Wednesday (12/1/2022).

On this occasion, Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs (WR I) UNS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ahmad Yunus, M.S., acted as Keynote Speaker and provided several messages for the students. Prof. Yunus explained that KKN Thematic is one of eight Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) programs for students that focus on rural development and offer several programs for students.

The first program is on the digitalization of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) that have positive contributions to the rural local economy. Students were invited to assist the small businesses to reach the digital marketing arena and develop the business further. The second program is regarding the improvement of rural community welfare, especially in terms of poverty, high mother mortality during and post-birth, and stunting. The other programs are teaching, humanities and research-focused.

Prof. Yunus added that in this Thematic KKN, students have the flexibility to implement their program independently and flexible time implementation. To the attendees, Prof. Yunus stated that there would be a recognition team for each activity performed by students and regular funding for program implementations.

“Our (KKN) programs will be funded by UNS. Each group will be funded to implement its programs. Therefore, the Rector wanted that this rural development program could translate to the largest MBKM activities,” Prof. Yunus stated.

UNS — The Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka Program (MBKM), released by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek), has been implemented for two years. Various MBKM derivative programs have also been implemented, including the Village Development Student Community Service Program (KKN). Although the KKN program was usually implemented before the MBKM, there needs to be an in-depth discussion on the recognition of the KKN MBKM Program.

Considering this need, the Student Community Service Management Unit (UPKKN), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to prepare the forms needed for credit recognition of the Village Development KKN MBKM Program. This discussion was held at UNS Inn for three days, from 5-7 January 2022.

Each faculty takes turns participating in this discussion. The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) attended the first day of discussion in the morning session and the Faculty of Agriculture (FP) in the afternoon session. On the second day, the discussion was attended by the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) for the morning session. Meanwhile, there were the Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB) and the Faculty of Art and Design (FSRD) on the afternoon session. The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) and the Faculty of Sports (FKOR) participated in the last day discussion in the morning session, while the Faculty of Engineering (FT) and the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) were participating in the afternoon session.

The Vice Dean of Academic, Research, and Student Affairs FKIP UNS, Prof. Dr. Slamet Subiyantoro, M.Sc., also attended the first session of the discussion. Prof. Slamet hopes that this discussion can increase the synergy between the faculties and UPKKN for the Village Development MBKM Program credit recognition. “Hopefully, by hosting this FGD, UPKKN UNS and the UNS faculties can build a favorable synergize,” he said.

During these three days, the Vice Dean for Academic, Research, and Student Affairs of each faculty, heads of study programs, and heads of MBKM programs credit recognition were present according to the scheduled plan. Participants seemed very enthusiastic during the discussion session. This enthusiasm is due to the alignment of discussion topics and the needs of study programs related to MBKM. This discussion creates a synchronization and synergy between UPKKN UNS and UNS faculties to provide a linear perception on the implementation of the UNS MBKM Community Service Program in Village Development in the future. Humas UNS
