Herewith the theme “Development of HR Softskills Based on Public Speaking and Master of Ceremonies”, this event presented Farhan Arief as International Public Speaker, Master of Ceremony, Presenter, Host and Announcer. This was moderated by Emi Indrawati from the UPT UNS Library.

In his remarks, Achmad Nur Chamdi, S.Pt, M.Sc., as the Chief Committee said that the workshop was aimed to help improve public communication skills.

“This event is the second workshop where the material will be more practical related to public speaking techniques and speaking techniques when becoming an MC. I also thank the workshop participants who attended this event. Thanks also to the organizers for organizing this event. InsyaAllah, the material that will be presented by the speakers will be very useful,” he said.

Another remark by the Head of UPT UNS Library, Burhanudin Harahap, S.H., M.H., M.Sc., Ph.D. said that being able to speak in public well and interestingly is a skill in communication that can be learned.

 “So, for those who want to have good speaking skills, take advantages of this workshop to be active. Because the participants will be given the opportunity to practice directly and other participants are welcome to provide feedback. This is also what makes the difference from previous workshop materials which were only about theory,” he said.

As a main speaker, Farhan Arief presented material on Presentation Practice and MC. He said that in order you don’t get nervous when speaking in public, the first thing you can do is take a deep breath. Then just look at the audience. Because when we see who is in front of us, we will be calm. After that you are please start talking.

“While the requirements to be an MC are to have broad knowledge, have a good sense of humor, have patience, have broad imagination, and be enthusiastic. As for the supporting factors for MC and public speaking are sound and speech that are good and pleasing to the ear, mastery of language, and appearance according to the program, ” Farhan Arief concluded. In his remarks, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, SH, M.Hum., said that the reading and writing culture among Indonesian is still relatively low. In fact, in 2019, the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemdikbud) conducted research and surveys on reading literacy indexes throughout the provinces in Indonesia. The result suggested that Indonesia’s literacy level can be categorized as low to moderate. This condition is concerning, especially if it happens in the academic institution environment. The academic members’ enthusiasm for reading and writing is a characteristic that must be nurtured and maintained by an academic expert and intellectual because it aims to express a person’s ideas, insight, and effort to devote the mastered knowledge.

“In this regard, I appreciate the initiatives taken by UNS Library for organizing the National Essay Writing Competition in 2022. In today’s era of rapid transformation, education institutions such as campuses and schools must master and be familiar with high literacy, ranging from reading, dialectics, discussion, debate, and writing. Through fellowship, we can significantly improve our insight, sharpen analysis, and systematic critical thinking,” explained Prof. Jamal.

Additionally, Prof. Jamal also appreciates the public response to participating in this LMEN. “To the 15 finalists in the student, teachers, and general public category; 7 finalists in high school/vocational school/MA category; and 7 (seven) finalists of the junior high school/MTS category, I would like to congratulate you and to wish you a happy competition, as well as for the best achievements,” added Prof. Jamal.

Hopefully, the LMEN initiated by UPT UNS Library can motivate reading and writing spirit among students, the community, and university students. The love for reading and writing, which could be part of the main academicians’ characteristics, at the same time can become a part of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education implementation.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the 2022 LMEN II Committee, Achmad Nur Chamdi, S.Pt., M.Si., reveals that to support the effort to transform UNS Library into a world-class university library, one of the promotional actions taken is through LMEN Competition. Additionally, this championship is also part of the 46th UNS Anniversary celebration. “This competition is expected to promote UNS Library and community literacy, thus increasing visitors’ visitation rate and satisfaction,” said Achmad Nur Chamdi.

By taking the theme of Future Library Development, this championship involves numerous assessment criteria such as manuscripts assessment and essay presentation assessment. The essay manuscripts assessment includes the theme-written work suitability, originality and creativity of written work ideas, specific essay sections (introduction, discussion, conclusion, and references), the use of Bahasa Indonesia according to PUEBI, and the systematics and details of the presentation. As for the assessment of the presentation includes the level of material understanding, systematics and material presentation detail, explanation confidence, punctuality and media implementation, and material delivery style and appearance.

“The registration and essay manuscripts submission was open from March7-15 April 2022, where participants must submit their essay before the initial assessment. The script was selected based on the predetermined assessment criteria, and the finalists were announced on April 17th. The selected finalists from Jakarta, Semarang, Makassar, and Soloraya, were invited to make a presentation at UNS Library Building,” said Achmad Nur Chamdi. Humas UNS

The visit was performed by 70 students of the Master Program in Management (MM) and Chairman of STIE 66 Kendari, Dr. Bakhtiar Abbas, S.E., M.Si., and the Head of MM Program, Dr. La Utu, S.E., M.M. The visit was held to improves students’ knowledge in preparing their master thesis.

UNS Library welcomed the visitors in Werkudoro Room UNS Library Building 2^nd floor. The entourage was welcomed directly by the Head of UNS Library, Burhanudin Harahap, S.H., M.H., M.SI., Ph.D., and Sub-Coordinator of Administrative Affairs, Emi Indrawati, S.E., M.M., and Coordinator for Collaborative Affairs, Achmad Nur Chamdi, S.Pt., M.Si.

In his remark, Burhanudin shared his appreciation for the visit from STIE 66 Kendari and hoped that the activity could benefit both institutions. “I hope this visit could improve (students’) insights and knowledge that could benefit (them) in preparing their thesis,” Burhanudin stated on Friday (25/2/2022).

The Chairman of STIE 66 Kendari, Dr. Bakhtiar Abbas, S.E., M.Si., thanked UNS Library and hoped that they could build a productive and beneficial collaboration for both institutions. “Thank you for welcoming us, and our students could access the digital library (digilib) collections in UNS Library,” Dr. Bakhtiar stated.

The discussion on this occasion run smoothly and interactively. The visitors were also brought to have a library tour around the building and received explanations from librarians. To conclude the visit, the institutes exchanged tokens of appreciation. Humas UNS

The Head of UPT UNS Library, Burhanuddin Harahap, SH, M.H., M.Si., Ph.D., revealed that RFID technology is implemented to support the UPT UNS Library’s self-service system located on the 1st Floor. Dr. Burhanuddin added that RFID is a small electronic device consisting of a chip and an antenna to perform cordless detection. “The establishment of a self-service system using RFID will be very useful for detecting whether books brought by users have been recorded in the UNS Libary borrowing system or not. When RFID technology detects books brought by users have not been recorded in the borrowing list, this system will emit a warning sound,” Burhanuddin said.

Then the ceremony continued with a trial practiced by Prof. Jamal. The simulation was carried out by Prof. Jamal to walk through the system while carrying books recorded in the borrowing list of the UPT UNS Library system and books that had not been recorded for book borrowing. As a result, when carrying an unrecorded book, the system will emit a warning sound. And vice versa, when Prof. Jamal brought a book that had already been borrowed, the system didn’t make a sound. “I really appreciate the initiatives and ideas from Pegadaian to establish The Gade Creative Lounge Corner. Thank you once again for establishing this function that became a wonderful and beautiful gift at the 46th Anniversary of UNS,” explained Prof. Jamal on Friday (11/3/2022).

Prof. Jamal added that the Gade Creative Lounge Corner could provide a new comfortable atmosphere for students to study, discuss, relax, play games, and increase enthusiasm for learning. Furthermore, this area is expected to change perspectives and the separation due to formality while establishing sharing and collaborative value among all UNS academic members.

As Prof. Jamal remarked, the Gade Creative Lounge Corner is a grant from Pegadaian to support the learning process at UNS. “I will also invite RKPU UNS members for a meeting in the Gade Creative Lounge Corner in the near future. Also, the faculty leaders should share information about this function massively to reach all UNS students,” continued Prof. Jamal.

Prof. Jamal said, further optimization on the Gade Creative Lounge Corner will be a continuous effort to improve the quality of learning at uns. “Hopefully, this area can create a comfortable atmosphere for studying and be useful for all UNS students,” Gunawan said.

The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture UNS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Samanhudi, S.P., M.Sc., IPM, ASEAN Eng., became one of the first to be amazed by the Gade Creative Lounge Corner. He also hopes this function can be useful for students. Humas UNS
