Bringing Interactive Learning to Vietnam

Maharani collaborated with Kwok Ka Ho from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Together, they run the “Happy Bus” program at MONTESSORI TƯƠNG LAI, Vietnam. The program lasted six weeks, from December 14, 2024, to January 26, 2025. Its primary goal was to enhance early childhood education in rural Vietnam while fostering cross-cultural understanding. Locally, AIESEC in UNS played a crucial role in providing students with valuable international experiences. The Global Volunteer program is one of AIESEC’s flagship initiatives, designed to develop youth leadership through cross-cultural experiences. It also aims to make a positive impact on local communities.

Educational Games

The Happy Bus program implemented a game-based learning approach, specifically designed for children aged 3–6. It primarily focused on teaching English through interactive and enjoyable methods.

During the first four weeks, Maharani actively served as an English teacher. She also assisted in various educational activities, including swimming classes to develop gross motor skills. Then it was sensory classes to enhance cognitive and sensory abilities. In addition, she added aerobics classes to promote physical health.

“The approach we used was very different from conventional methods,” Maharani said on Thursday (30/1/2025). “Together with the school, I designed various educational games that were engaging and effective. These activities made it easier for children to understand and retain lessons. Seeing their enthusiasm while learning through play was truly rewarding.”

Appreciation from the Principal of MONTESSORI TƯƠNG LAI

The Principal of MONTESSORI TƯƠNG LAI, Huệ Lê, expressed deep appreciation for the dedication and creativity of the Global Volunteer participants. She was particularly impressed by Maharani’s ability to integrate Indonesian cultural values into the learning process. Huệ Lê hopes that similar programs will continue in collaboration with universities in Indonesia, particularly with UNS.

“Maharani’s presence has brought new energy to our school,” Huệ Lê stated.
“Her teaching methods were highly effective and enjoyable. We have seen remarkable improvements in students’ English skills, as well as their confidence and motivation to learn.”

As a result, the collaboration with AIESEC in UNS introduced new perspectives in teaching methods at MONTESSORI TƯƠNG LAI. Many of Maharani’s approaches will serve as references for future curriculum development.

Nevertheless, only seven inaugural participants attended in person, while two other physicians from Vietnam took part in the procession virtually. In this period, the highest GPA was achieved by dr. Ramadaningtyas Maghfirotul Fajriani with a GPA of 3.75. With the appointment of nine new doctors, FK UNS has inaugurated 6,682 physicians since 1976. UNS Vice-Rector for Management and Human Resources Affairs, Prof. Dr. Bandi, M.Si., Ak., directly congratulated the new doctors. Prof. Bandi reminded the graduates that FK UNS is fairly renowned as a Faculty of Medical Science in Indonesia. Hence, graduates are expected to pursue a new career steadily. “Congratulations to the new doctors. We are proud to inaugurate you, students, who graduated as a certified physician,” he said.

The Dean of FK UNS, Prof. Dr. dr. Reviono, Sp.P(K)., reminded the graduates that this momentum is the beginning of their new careers as a physician. This momentum is not the end of their challenges over the years. He also stated that there are many flights of stairs in the physicians’ career to be crossed by the inaugurated physicians. They can choose career ladders in the form of a specialized career path or further study. Prof. Reviono also told the new physicians that clinical ability was not enough. It needs to be supported by honesty and entertainment. Additionally, Prof. Reviono also urges new doctors to expand and strengthen their network.

These hopes were confirmed by the Chairman of the FK UNS Alumni Association (IKA), Dr. Sri Pratomo, Sp.B., FINACS, FICS., who attended the inauguration on site. He reminded the new physicians of the 3K standard that should be implemented by the new physicians, humility, politeness, and fellowship. Furthermore, the Director of Regional General Hospital (RSUD), Dr. Moewardi Surakarta, Dr.dr. Cahyono Hadi, Sp.OG., who also attended the inaugural ceremony, urged the new physicians to determine their life objectives, which are important to determine which steps to take.

Representing the inaugurated physicians’, dr. Trisandi Adi Pamungkas implored prayers to the attendees for ease in their future endeavors. They also wish to be able to promote FK UNS honor in their respective careers. “We appealed for your prayer because our journey as new physicians did not just end here. Hopefully, we can continue our journey, both in Indonesia and Vietnam, to improve our competency and be an example in contributing to FK UNS’s reputation,” he concluded. Humas UNS
