“For one year, Gibran has succeeded in leading Solo considering his status as the youngest Mayor. Gibran has successfully implemented internal coordination. For example, in managing the bureaucracy in Surakarta Municipal government. Externally, Gibran’s distinct allure attracts many people from Jakarta to come and learn from Mas Gibran,” Prof. Jamal stated on Friday (25/2/2022).

Prof. Jamal also observes that Gibran’s leading policy lies in economic sectors, especially in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Prof. Jamal then shared a story of him conversing with Gibran regarding MSMEs assisted by UNS that stopped exporting their product due to the pandemic. “Not long after that, Gibran succeeded in making those MSMEs export their products to Europe,” Prof. Jamal explained.

Gibran also has succeeded in recovering education in Solo during the pandemic. Prof. Jamal stated that Gibran continuously visited the educational institution and suggested that the teaching and learning process could be implemented online and offline in a limited and conditional setting. The Rector emphasized that Gibran is quick and responsive in providing innovation for people in Solo.

Lastly, Prof. Jamal added that it is hard to assess Gibran’s success only in one period. But Prof. Jamal believes that the achievement would improve together with the increasing positive participation from Solo people. “Hopefully, Gibran’s policies could be better, improving welfare, and adaptive to the rapid development in industrial revolution and disruption era,” Prof. Jamal added.

“Congratulation on one year leading, Gibran. Hopefully, (you) can continue creating, working tirelessly for the nations and country,” Prof. Jamal concluded. Humas UNS

“Observing the policies and breakthrough introduced, it seems that Gibran wants to brand himself as a bold, brave young leader who never acts half-hearted in taking a risky policy,” Hakim stated.

From the political psychology perspective, Hakim stated that the leader had implemented many projects and breakthroughs, which successfully built the Solo people’s optimism that dimmed early in the pandemic. Therefore, the community placed a high expectation on the young leader. This explanation aligns with the community satisfaction survey result from Universitas Slamet Riyadi (Unisri) Solo. “The survey showed 79.3% satisfaction level on Gibran’s performance,” Hakim stated.

He also mentioned that although the survey portrayed a positive result, it also showed a 7% decrease in support from people selecting Gibran and Teguh, who won 86.5% in the election. “This indicates that there is something to be improved,” he added.

The Image Developed

Hakim explained that the political activities at the municipal level greatly depend on the actual daily experience of the people. Therefore, Gibran tries to create a perception that he is a decisive leader with a considerable persona. However, the positive perception that was built seems to be not fully aligned with the community’s needs and implemented policies. Thus, the young leader has homework to synchronize his image and solve the city’s real issues.

Hakim also discussed the leadership style portrayed by Gibran. He argued that Gibran has cool, young people corporate style with many innovations but faces the community life that is culturally and socially controlled by the older generation. Thus, the Mayor needs to learn to become a leader both for the young and the older generation. In this case, Gibran seems unable to recreate his father’s legacy due to the significant age difference between Gibran and his Vice-Mayor. “I think it is homework for the leaders to find a middle ground. Thus, Solo could have a great duet that fills one another’s drawbacks,” Hakim added.

Future Projection

In their one year of leadership, Gibran showed numerous limitations and left communication and coordination issues with internal and external parties. Thus, for Gibran to participate in a higher election level, he needs to fix his drawbacks in leading Solo, although he agreed that Gibran could provide new hopes for the community. “But he also has large homework in Solo before entering future political stages,” Hakim concluded. And congratulation to SD Djama’atul Ichwan for its Centennial Anniversary, it is a long service in the education field, even longer than Universitas Sebelas Maret,” Prof. Jamal stated.

Prof. Jamal is impressed with SD Djama’atul Ichwan alumni for continuing their study in various universities at home and abroad. Prof. Jamal argues that it reflects the excellent quality of the teaching and learning process in SD Djama’atul Ichwan. “This shows that the teaching and learning process in SD Djama’atul Ichwan is laudable and excellent. There is strong collaboration between students and teachers in the school; I think it is laudable. SD Djama’atul Ichwan greatly inspires the education institutions in Surakarta, Central Java, even at the national and international level,” Prof. Jamal explained.

The award for Prof. Jamal was handed by Mukhlis Mustofa, M.Pd., as the Chairman of Yayasan Pendidikan Djama’atul Ichwan. Other awardees are Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Mendikbudristek), Nadiem Makarim as Driver of Education Transformation, Surakarta Mayor, Gibran Rakabuming Raka as Inspirational Young Leader, Al-Muayyad Surakarta Boarding School manager, K.H. The Android-based app is a development of aksiberbagi.com, released by Ardi two years ago. Aksiberbagi.com is a humanity platform that moves in digital social fundraising.

The launching was held in Social Innovation Talks. Dr. Sutanto stated that technology innovation is vital to share the benefits, especially amid the current rapid development.

“AksiBerbagi app becomes an appropriate innovation to share the benefit of social fundraising to the community, especially considering that now the community members are limited from doing outdoor activities. Donation from home using application becomes the answer to share goodness,” Dr. Sutanto stated.

The platform has raised funds for more than 214 programs in collaboration with 69 partners. Currently, aksiberbagi.com has distributed its collected funds to more than 11,000 recipients.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of aksiberbagi.com, Ardi Wardianto, stated that this application is one of aksiberbagi.com commitment to share goodness through easier and transparent means.

“We hoped that (the app) will ease the community in sharing goodness through a more effective donation. The features in the application are, among others, online donation, zakat, and other features. It is easy to access, users only need to install the AksiBerbagi application from Playstore, enter their name and phone number to log in, and the application is ready to be used,” Ardi explained.
