In his remarks, Prof. Hartono emphasized the crucial role of waqf in enhancing development and empowering both education and the broader community. He expressed UNS’s strong commitment to actively support productive waqf management, noting, “The MoU we are signing today is a pivotal step in maximizing the role of waqf as an instrument for empowerment and development. As a higher education institution, UNS is committed to advancing society, particularly by supporting and strengthening productive waqf management that impacts various sectors, including the economy, social welfare, and education.”

This MoU aims to foster synergy between UNS and BWI, facilitating initiatives that will benefit society. Prof. Hartono added, “We hope this MoU will lead to programs that are not only theoretical but also practical, enabling the benefits of productive waqf to be felt directly by the community.”

BWI Chair Prof. Kamaruddin noted that this collaboration is part of an effort to broaden public awareness of cash waqf. He underscored that waqf can be a powerful tool for advancing society and improving education quality, assuring that the management of waqf funds will maintain high standards of credibility, integrity, and permanence.

The scope of the MoU includes collaborative efforts to support the core functions of higher education, particularly in enhancing human resource quality and promoting cash waqf as a means of advancing education and community welfare. This agreement is set to remain in effect for three years from the signing date.

The UNS-BWI partnership supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 1, “No Poverty,” by empowering vulnerable populations, and aligns with SDG 4, “Quality Education,” aimed at improving and equalizing educational opportunities.
