The competition, themed “The Impact of the Increase of Geopolitical Dynamics in the Middle East on Global Dynamics,” included sub-themes Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), security, and economics.

Aisyah and Syakira submitted a scientific paper focused on security titled “The Relevance of the Human Security Index (HSI) Components to the High Fragile State Index (FSI) of Yemen Amid Geopolitical Instability from 2012-2022.” Their work outperformed entries from other prestigious universities, including Universitas Prasetiya Mulya and UTY Yogyakarta.

Both Aisyah and Syakira acknowledged that they had been preparing for this competition for a long time, under the guidance of their IR lecturer, Septyanto Galan Prakoso S.I.P., M.Sc.

“We started preparing for this competition well in advance, from submitting the abstract to finally presenting at the UKSW Diplomacy Laboratory last Saturday, all with the support of Mr. Galan,” Syakira explained in a press release received by uns.ac.id on Friday (16/8/2024).

They admitted that the competition posed several challenges, especially since it was their first time participating in such an event. Aisyah and Syakira both confessed to feeling nervous during their presentation.

“This presentation was a new experience for us. Since it was our first time presenting in a competition, we were quite nervous,” Aisyah said.

Syakira further added that their paper utilized a quantitative method, which is rarely used in IR studies.

“We found this competition really challenging, even in the process of writing the paper. Mr. Galan guided us to use a quantitative method, which we don’t usually employ in our classes,” Syakira added.

In the final interview, both students expressed their openness and desire to participate in similar scientific writing competitions in the future. “Personally, I’d love to join another competition like this. It’s a great opportunity to improve on the feedback we received and enhance my skills,” Aisyah said.

Septyanto Galan Prakoso, S.I.P., M.Sc., who mentored the students during the competition, confirmed their dedication. He also emphasized the importance of novelty in their research, which contributed to their victory.

“We provided guidance on both the content and the methodology. We also focused on highlighting the novelty aspect of their research, which, Alhamdulillah, was appreciated by the judges,” Galan said.

This emphasis on innovation was a key factor in Aisyah and Syakira’s success in the competition. Finally, Septyanto Galan expressed his appreciation for Aisyah and Syakira’s efforts and reiterated the commitment of the IR Study Program to supporting students in achieving academic excellence.

This activity was held to commemorate the 37th Anniversary of the FISIP Alumni Board, Universitas Warmadewa. The championship, entitled Jayastamba National Poetry Competition, was attended by hundreds of participants from all over Indonesia.

The competition started with a registration stage, submission of manuscripts, judges assessment, and announcements. As announced on Wednesday (29/12/2021), Eko managed to become one of the champions in this competition. In this event, Eko wrote a poem entitled “Rekuiem Karna to Batara Surya, His Father.” Eko explained that the poem he wrote explains and interprets the turmoil of a puppet character, namely the character Karna.

“This poem is trying to interpret the shackles of hegemony in the wayang character, as suggested by one of the characters, namely Karna,” explained Eko in an interview. For the achievements he got, Eko was happy. “It is thrilling because the competition is held by one of the universities in Bali and taking on the topic of hegemony. A little scary and calculating,” he further explained.

In the future, Eko wants to continue writing and publish a book of poetry or short stories collection. “In the future, I wish to continue writing and will publish books, both poetry and short stories,” concluded Eko. Humas UNS

LMK 2021 was held by the Student Executive Board (BEM) of Faculty of Engineering Universitas Sriwijaya, Palembang. Various universities send their students to participate in the competition, such as Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Universitas Indonesia (UI), Universitas Sriwijaya, and Universitas Diponegoro, with a total of 50 teams.

To uns.ac.id team, Tegar and Fadillah Rizky stated that they participated in LKM 2021 because they were interested in the theme, renewable energy. “I like the theme, renewable energy. Therefore, I discuss renewable energy topic as an increasingly developed national issue,” Tegar stated.

By participating in the competition, Tegar and Fadillah Rizky also wanted to enrich their experience in the scientific writing field. Their work discussed the installation of a biogas reactor from fish wastes in the coastal area. In their work, Tegar and Fadillah conducted a deep analysis of the economic condition of the coastal community that could be improved with the installation of a biogas reactor.

“Thus, indirectly, the partners in marines and fisheries business that apply this biogas reactor will benefit from (the system),” Tegar explained.

In preparing the essay, Tegar was inspired by his tutor in High School. Tegar and Fadillah Rizky also admitted that they did not expect that they would win 1^st place because both of them are students of Historical Science Program FIB UNS and participated for the first time.

“I was surprised because, for the essay, we were in 10^th place according to the score. And after the presentation, we won 1^st place. Very surprised because we did not have an experience in scientific writing, especially essay,” Tegar stated.

In the future, Tegar and Fadillah Rizky want to explore their potential in writing, especially in renewable energy topics. Tegar also admitted that he wants to collaborate with students from other programs to conduct research that will bring a proud name for UNS at the national and international levels. Humas UNS

The post Discussing Renewable Energy Issue, Two UNS Students Won 1st Place in LMK 2021 appeared first on Universitas Sebelas Maret.

This competition was held to commemorate Madura Pintar Anniversary in 2021. Under the theme of “Indonesian Inspirational Volunteers”, the competition has two sub-themes, volunteers in community services and volunteers during the pandemic. Aji Santoso was selected to volunteer in the community service sub-theme and wrote a story titled ‘Relawan Sarung’ (Saroong Volunteer). His short story tells the journey of a volunteer during the eruption of Mount Merapi in Sleman, Yogyakarta, who asked for his mother’s blessing. His mother gave him a sarong which later saved him from the cruel eruption.

“The story is based on a true story, which focuses on parent’s blessings that could save someone from danger. But I modified the story,” Aji told uns.ac.id team (20/5/2021).

The fan of Joko Pinurbo said that he started to like writing since entering the university around 2019. Besides short stories, Aji also writes poetry and opinion in his free time. From his hobby, Aji won over 104 participants in the competition. Although he won the competition, he said that he would continue learning and hone his writing skill, deciding the theme and selecting diction. He also enriches his literacy knowledge by reading various short stories. Aji hopes that he could publish a collection of his short stories in a book through a major publisher in the future.
