UNS — The Team 37 of Student Community Service Program (KKN) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, promotes Green Village activities in Logede Village, Pejagoan Sub-District, Kebumen. The program is a follow-up program from the previous initiative conducted by the village residents as a measure to conserve the environment in Logede Village. The village residents support the Green Village scheme, proven by the residents’ enthusiasm during the program implementation.
Previously, the Logede residents have initiated numerous activities to support Green Village, such as establishing food gardens in each Neighborhood (RT). A food garden is a yard planted with various plants, such as eggplant, chili, beans, lettuce, flowers, and many other plants, and is managed by the local community.
“Food garden is an effort to enhance the residents’ welfare, where they can benefit from the garden crop to support their daily life, which also serves as reforestation program,” said Ratna Desita Listyarini, Mrs. Logede Village Chief. The Logede Village Chief added that he wishes for the Green Village program to optimize the food garden movement.
The Green Village program is started with bokashi fertilizer production training. Bokashi fertilizer is compost, which is very good for plant fertility. Moreover, this fertilizer is cheaper and can be produced independently by the local community. Following the training, Team 37 KKN UNS holds special training in preparing growing media in the food garden for family medicinal plants. The team is aware that the medicinal plants have not been planted in the food garden, while their benefits are actually crucial during this Covid-19 pandemic.
The Green Village program series is concluded with a re-planting program in Logede Village and finished with a closing ceremony on Tuesday (31/8/2021). “All the programs are expected to be beneficial for the residents and can support the food garden initiative started by in Logede Village,” said Hilal, a representative of Team 37 KKN UNS.
Aside from the Green Village main program, the team also organized additional training such as health beverage production from medicinal plants, study assistance for elementary school and kindergarten students, and the tampah painting program as a medium for socializing a clean and healthy lifestyle.
