UNS — Student Association (UKM) of Tennis Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta won the UNS Rector Cup 2021 Championship. The student association brought home a total of six winnings from five contested categories.
The six winnings are 1st place in Men Single (Muhammad Reza Falevi), 3rd place in Men Single (Ilham Khamid Nasrullah), 1st place in Men Double (Muh. Reza Falevi/Adhi Surya), 3rd place in Men Double (Dionisius Rory/Ilham Khamid), 2nd place in Women Double (Dienda Arum Sekarene/Faiza Salsabila), and 3rd place in Mixed Doubles (Adhi Surya/Faiza Salsabila).
In the competition held early December 2021, Dionisius Rory stated that their preparation was short, with two months of independent training and two weeks of centered training.
“We sent two up to four athletes for each category because, in this event, athletes could play in two categories. Thus, we only sent a team in categories that we felt have the opportunity,” he said on Tuesday (4/1/2022).
The competition of Invitation for Tennis Championship among Public University Students UNS Rector Cup, was participated by six universities, UNS, Universitas Diponegoro (Undip), Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas), Universitas Airlangga (Unair), Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), and Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB).
Rory added that in the preparation, they experienced challenges because some of their team members lived in different regions; the reason why they only met a few times in centered training. However, it does not limit them from maximizing the existing training time.
“We are delighted and proud to achieve the target set. Especially because we did not train for long,” he added.
The tournament is the second tournament participated by the student association during the pandemic. Previously, they participated in a tournament in Padang, Sumatera Utara. But they must be satisfied with the final qualification round.
“The hope for the future, hopefully in 2022 there will be more tennis event that will be held so that our association could participate and win the events. The target for this year is for us to win the National University Student Sports Week (Pomnas),” Rory hoped. Humas UNS
