UNS — Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Republik Indonesia (RI), Zainudin Amali encourages Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta to declare itself as a Center for Research and Development of Sports for People with Disabilities (paragames). This encouragement was delivered in the 3rd Faculty of Sports (FKOR) UNS Anniversary celebration on Friday (13/8/2021) through the Zoom Cloud Meeting and live broadcast on the UNS official YouTube channel.
“In this anniversary, I hope FKOR UNS could declare itself as a center for research and development of sports for people with disabilities,” the Minister stated.
The full support is warranted by UNS roles in the training for athletes with physical disabilities. UNS also has sports facilities that support the needs of athletes with physical disabilities. The Minister also explained that UNS has a great role in developing sports for people with disabilities, as reflected in the preparation of athletes with physical disabilities who will compete in Tokyo Paralympic 2020 on 24 August – 5 September 2021. The Paralympic team training is centralized in Solo, involving UNS in providing sports facilities.
The city is selected for the training center because it is considered to have decent sports facilities. The Minister of Youth and Sport is grateful that UNS allows athletes to train even amid the PPKM. The Minister also stated that Solo has Orthopedic Hospital (RSO) Soeharso, which provides complete services and supports athletes’ training process considering the need for detailed observation and preparation on athletes with physical disabilities physical performance to avoid injury.
Zainudin Amali added that six UNS faculty members were also involved in training the para-athletic and para-badminton athletes. The six trainers are very patient and reliable in training the athletes who will compete in Tokyo Paralympic 2020.
With all of these aspects in UNS, the Minister highly suggested that UNS declare itself as the center for research and development of sports for people with disabilities. he hoped that UNS could achieve the Indonesia sports grand design.
“The center for research and development of paragames aligns and supports the national sports grand design, especially for disabilities. We need to provide opportunities to everyone with every condition to develop Indonesian sports,” he concluded. Humas UNS
