UNS — To be an entrepreneur is not bound to age, is the spirit raised by the Student Association in Arabic Language and Literature Program Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta by holding an Entrepreneurship Workshop on Saturday (25/9/2021) through the Zoom Cloud Meeting. The event that was attended by 113 participants who are mostly Arabic Language and Literature Program students, was a part of the new students welcoming ceremony.
Young entrepreneur, Didik Arwinsyah, SEO, was invited as a speaker in the workshop that aims to encourage students to be an entrepreneur. This workshop can open new insights for new students to peek into the business world so that they can prepare themselves to be entrepreneurs earlier. This program also supports the Indonesian government program to shape universities as the center for entrepreneurship.
In his discussion, Didik Arwinsyah, as the Recipient of Young Independent Entrepreneur of Yogyakarta Province and Central Java 2014, stated that the digital era had eased the business entry process through online platforms. With laptops, phones, and the internet, an online entrepreneur could reach diverse regions. Therefore, considering the ease of starting as a young entrepreneur, Didik shared several tips to be a young online entrepreneur.
First, students need to have a product, either physical, services, or digital products. Physical products can be in the form of clothing, food, handicraft, while for services, students could offer their valuable skills. Lastly, digital products include tutorial videos and other products that are getting more diverse. “The product should be unique or different. Because the business mindset should be: better look different than looking better,” Didik said.
Secondly, by conducting market research through the internet by entering keywords and the targeted cities, students could obtain new facts about the needs of the region. Third, students need to understand the concept of marketing through BMT; B represents needs (Butuh), M represents cheap (Murah), and T represents limit (terbatas). Students need to make sure that their product is needed by the people. Then they could develop strategies to make people think that they need the products. Students could also utilize promo to offer their product to give a sense of ‘lower’ price. Lastly, students need to control the limitation of the number of products sold or the promotional event.
“If from these three there is one drawback, then our business is disabled,” he concluded. Humas UNS
