UNS — An outstanding accomplishment achieved by students of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta. Just now, two students of UNS bring home two bronze medals in the National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Competition (KN-MIPA). This competition is organized by the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas) Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdikbud Ristek). The students are Daniel Sugihantoro from Civil Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering (FT), and Achmad Nurul Yaqin from the Medicine Education Study Program, Faculty of Medical Science (FK) UNS. Daniel received a bronze medal in Physics in this competition, while Achmad Nurul Yaqin received a similar medal in Chemistry.
Daniel admits that he is delighted with the winner’s announcement, where he was acknowledged as one of the winners. Previously, Daniel also won the KN-MIPA 2020 with another bronze medal. “Initially, I was surprised because I felt hopeless since this year’s championship questions are harder than the previous year. Even during the initial announcement, the committee made a small mistake where my name was nowhere to be found. Right after the announcement, I left the virtual meeting platform since I thought I did not win. It turned out that there was an announcement error, and there was my name. Praise God I’m really grateful,” said Daniel on Thursday (2/9/2021).
A similar feeling was expressed by Achmad Nurul Yaqin or commonly known as Yaqin. He considers that the current year’s questions are more difficult, their preparation is cut short, starting from the University representatives announcement and the representative to the national level. “The preparation is not as thorough as the previous year’s preparation, and there is limited time from the university representative selection announcement. Thus, we hastily reviewed the material, while at the same time I need to focus on my Student Creativity Program (PKM),” Yaqin revealed. The student of Medical Science reveals that he tried his best to remain calm in facing the KN-MIPA 2021, especially with his prior experience in the previous year’s championship.
“I feel more relaxed since I had participated in the last year’s competition. When announced as a winner, Alhamdulillah, I am delighted, even it is just a bronze medal, but I feel more proud because the questions are harder than before,” Yaqin added. He suggested to all UNS students not to waste any opportunity.
“Do not be afraid to fail, and we never know when the next opportunity comes. Don’t let yourself regretted your choice just because you are afraid of failure. No opportunity is more painful than failure,” Yaqin said. Humas UNS
