UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta continues spreading its partnership wider by establishing a partnership with Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta through a memorandum of the understanding signing ceremony on Friday (13/8/2021) through Zoom Cloud Meeting platform.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, and the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, Prof. M. Agus Burhan, in a ceremony attended by vice-rectors and executive boards of both universities. In his opening remark, Prof. Jamal stated that he is delighted to establish a partnership with ISI Yogyakarta that has a close cultural resemblance with UNS. The Rector was also enthusiastic about the new collaboration to improve Higher Education Tridharma in education, research, and community service implementation.
This collaboration will synergize and optimize the use of resources from both universities to build a meaningful partnership. The partnership will also support the implementation of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program as mentioned by Prof. Jamal, “I am grateful to collaborate with ISI Yogyakarta; a great arts institute. Therefore, please allow my students to implement Higher Education Tridharma in ISI Yogyakarta through the MBKM program. If ISI Yogyakarta students want to learn in UNS, we also accept them with open arms,” he stated.
MBKM program is a program promoted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) that allows students to use their three semesters to develop their respective interests through various activities, such as intern, entrepreneurship, or learning at other national and international universities, designed to adjust university curriculum with the real workplace expectations.
The Rector of ISI Yogyakarta also welcomed this collaboration and stated that this is a momentum for UNS and ISI Yogyakarta to improve productivity in all fields. “This partnership is meaningful for UNS and ISI Yogyakarta productivity and development. Moreover, in connection to the MBKM program that encourages us to be productive and enrich our experiences in our particular fields. Students certainly need complete comprehension of their particular study and other fields of study. Relevance between our curriculum and the industrial world is needed,” Prof. Agus stated.
Further, Prof. Agus also hoped that this collaboration would increase research and publication from faculty members in UNS and ISI Yogyakarta. The collaboration also extended to the Faculty of Art and Design (FSRD) UNS and Faculty of Fine Arts (FSR) ISI Yogyakarta that covers inter-program collaboration, Higher Education Tridharma implementation, human resource management improvement, consultation and focuses group discussion (FGD), and students exchange between the universities.
