UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta Chess Team won the Grand Champion in University Student Sports Week (POM) Soloraya. The UNS team won three categories simultaneously, 1st place in Women Classical Chess by Kelvia Deanika Mulyana, 2nd place in Women Classical Chess by Dwi Sekar Darojati, and 2nd place in Men Classical Chess by Raka Ardiyansyah Putra.
The competition was held by the Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Raden Mas Said Surakarta on 13-15 December 2021. In an interview with uns.ac.id, Raka Ardiyansyah Putra admitted that he is proud of the achievement.
“We are proud because UNS could become Grand Champion with three titles in this competition,” he stated on Wednesday (22/12/2021).
Raka and other UNS team members must compete with other participants in the competition, 22 participants in the men category and 11 participants in the women category.
“Hopefully, in the future, with this achievement from UNS Chess Community could strengthen (us) to be a Student Association (UKM). Hopefully, we could continue bringing pride for UNS,” he added.
Yunita Sekarningtyas as the manager of UNS Chess Community, stated that their preparation did not take a long time.
“The online training was held using lichess and the offline training only four days because of the far distance of our houses. There are from Purbalingga, Indramayu, Surabaya. So we maximized offline preparation, so they have more stable performance and get used to sparring,” Yunita said.
She added that they would encourage UNS Chess Community to participate in other open championships. Humas UNS
